I was playing Metroid Prime when this happened This continued for several minutes
My wife went to Walmart and got me a few presents. She didn’t even know I was looking for Phazon Suit Samus, but it was the last one they had and she snatched it up. Sorry to humble brag, but I’m pretty happy. I gotta get her something now haha.
I was thinking about playing a Reptilicus character for an upcoming DND oneshot (flavored as lizardfolk), but unfortunately am blanking hard on names. I know there are certain conventions in the Reptilicus language (use of y’s, etc) but I was wondering if anyone more linguistically savvy than me could point out aspects of the language that could help me come up with a convincing name. Also I enjoy discussing fictional languages because it’s really fun lol
Since Metroid Dread's release the game has received a lot of praise for its great visuals, controls and action, and I agree with all of them. The game was so fun that I beat it in Dread mode, 100% it multiple times and grinded the boss rush for many hours. The game has also been criticized for being more linear than most Metroidvanias, with few branching paths and little need to remember where to use your new powerups, as well as having a weak soundtrack. I also agree with all of these criticisms, although they're not a dealbreaker for me.
However, my biggest gripe with the game is something I haven't seen anyone complain about, and that is how the game has a really cool idea of starting in the center of the planet and working yourself to the surface and yet completely abandoned it when designing the areas.
The first area Artaria is the biggest offender. It's very deep down in the planet, but it just looks like another Crateria-like surface cave area. The spaces are really wide and bright, there's sunlight shining from the ceiling, there's an area with a large lake and all the lifeforms seem normal, and not like the abominations that one would expect to find so deep underground. A deep cave could have been so cool with tight, claustrophobia-inducing corridors, artificial lighting and strange creatures adapted to the extreme environment. But instead it's just a generic cave area.
Burenia is similar. It's this ocean-like area with rain and waves, and it just feels like it's a normal ocean. Nothing about it makes it feel like deep sea. The fact that when you arrive you're at the surface of it could mean it's some huge underground lake, but it is in no way distinguished from just a normal sea in the surface.
Ferenia and Ghavoran are also fully lit by what appears to be sunlight, so they just feel like a normal jungle and castle, and don't make use of the potential of being underground.
Maybe it's too restrictive to make all your areas have an underground aesthetic, but what bothers me is that it doesn't feel like they even tried. They could have had the player reach the surface half way into the game or earlier if it was too hard to make all the areas feel subterranean, but those that are should feel like it. Not a single area feels like it's sticking to the theme of being extremely deep below the surface, and it hurts the atmosphere a lot in my opinion. That combined with the lack of lore entries contextualizing what we find in these areas and the mediocre OST make this game have a mediocre atmosphere in my opinion, which sucks because the graphics and backgrounds are amazing. Even the first room in the game is extremely wide, has sunlight shining in and has beautiful blossoming trees. It's pretty, but it doesn't create the atmosphere that it should, and the one they were setting up with the idea of working your way to the surface.
Anyway, that's how I feel. If anyone disagrees I respect it, but I could never immerse myself in this world and setting, inspite of how fun the game is. And I think this is the main reason why.
In the intro to Fusion, Samus states that 'someone' found a cure for the X. >!I believe that 'someone' was none other than Sylux! If they were able to clone mochtroids, why couldn't theu develop a vaccine from Metroid DNA? It is also worth noting that mochtroids first appeared in Super Metroid, which directly preceded Fusion chronologically.!< What do you think!?
Samus Aran inspects the cieling as a Jesus Hornoad approaches in his bee leg warmers
Was looking into playing Hunters on PC and came across this trailer for a mod.
Both Prime 1 and Doom Eternal are in my top 5 all time. Merging these two musically is something that never even crossed my mind but it sounds amazing! Does anyone know the artist?
I love Metroid but I also love modern FPSes like Doom, Wolfenstein, Half Life, Fallout etc and I think it’d be cool too see a game made in that style. Thoughts 💭?
Edit: I’ll change those games listed to be Halo, Crysis, and Doom Eternal/2016 instead since the others are not modern.
I'm assuming this happens:
from the title screen, after starting
from a room, through a door, into another
from an area to another area, such as those long elevators
Is it correct to say those are loading screen; points where the game loads data such as code, sound and images?
I'm looking for confirmation or refutation, thank you.
--- update
I got confirmation from people in the SM Speedrunning discord experienced with modding, with the asterisk that the game's catridge-based nature doesn't have it load data in the same way it's loaded from external storage like a hard-drive, and instead, data like compressed audio, level information, and others, are decompressed and this is what happens in the aforementioned sections.
Don't know what category I should put this in, but I wanted to post this sketch of Squirtle in a Metroid power suit.I plan on improving this later so this isn't the final look.
I know, hot take, but it's what I think.
I really, really love Metroid, but I find a lot of the bosses a core to fight, to be honest: a bore.
Do you feel the same? Why?
Hey everyone, playing Super Metroid for the first time trying to only look up when I get absolutely stuck which has been finding out to shoot the bubble in the top right of Norfair to get some power up to progress, how to escape that Dragon web grab and the invisible wall in Norfair. This last one I could not figure out and now I don't know how to get to Ridley.
Please don't spoil but try to nudge me in the right direction, Ridley is in Lower Norfair right and I can access him in this area (no instance of other section like Brinstar etc leading to him)
Hi, i just beat prime remastered (one of the best games ive ever played btw) and when i got the option to save after the credits, i clicked no, because i wanted to keep my file. Is there any indication of the save file being beaten, kinda like how in botw theres a little star on the save file, but you still respawn at your last save? In order to unlock ng plus do i have to beat the game again?
Just a random thing about Super’s box art I’ve always been curious about.
Beat the spore guy. Got super jump and nukes.
