Is this still a thing ? I remember seeing it back in 2018 and I thought it was absolutely beautiful. I drove by Draper park the other night and it was just dark with no Christmas lights …
I know it’s a federal compliance issue with the railroad crossings, but I can’t believe those horns are still going off. How are you not losing your minds, people who live near the tracks? I’m on 800 E and I can hear the horns blaring from inside my house. Absolutely bonkers.
My aunt told me that I could get help from work force services to obtain a cdl. The only thing is she said they may or may not need me to get laid off.. I quit my job last week due to a crappy work environment and the situation goes very deep. If any of you know what the process is with WFS or have an idea of where I could get my cdl for cheap I guess. I would very much appreciate it!
Hello all,
whele can I recycle type AAA or AA batteries? Preferably downtown.
Thank you
Coming to SLC for work. What is there to do after work around the Sheraton area during the week?
I feel like a conspiracy theorist, but after the windows update happened on 11/24 my computer mysteriously stopped working - just in time for Black Friday sales. I think it’s fixable, but am getting the runaround from both Windows and Lenovo support.
Is there a trustworthy computer repair place near Sugarhouse? I don’t want to pay more than what I’d have to pay to Lenovo to diagnose and fix the issue, but I’d honestly trust an independent repair person more than the source manufacturer at this point. I’ve had nothing but horrible customer service for over a week now and no real solutions or steps.
TIA.
I have family visiting for Christmas and one of them is turning 18 a few days after.
Anyone have any recommendations for fun ways to celebrate an 18th birthday? So far we’re thinking about doing dinner, but no solid ideas about where. I think they’re pretty open minded about ideas, so any and all recommendations welcome! Thanks in advance.
Edit to add: there will be a decent mix of age ranges present to celebrate. There’s about 8-10 of us between 7-50 yrs old, including a couple of teens and other adults.
Did you miss out on partying in college? Are you feeling lonely and want friends, and also have a big house that might not get noise complaints?
We are a bunch of college students who want a spot to host a new years party, but every party gets shut down with noise complaints, and lots of us don't have a big enough space to host. We're looking for a good spot and don't want to pay to rent anywhere cause that's less money we can spend on the jungle juice.
So we have a great idea: you let us host, we'll bring all the beer and people, and you get the best college party of your life. We'll bring ~100 people with an even gender ratio. We'll clean up the next day and we won't break anything, nothing too wild is gonna happen, just want to drink with a crowd. We'll help give you the best party ever.
EDIT I would only bring people 21 and over
EDIT 2 There are times in life when things go wrong. This might not be one of them. You can either be a "something could go wrong" person or a "this could be epic" person. Who would you rather be?
When I was a kid my school would serve the tater tots with the cheese inside. I see that Burger King sells them but only during December and it reminded me of my school lunch. Where can I buy them in bulk year round? I’ve looked for them in stores but can’t find them!!!!! THANKS!!!!!!
Looking for a local nursery or flower shop when I can locate mistletoe. Any ideas?
I’m looking for a physical therapist who is specifically good with post-surgery ankle/leg rehabilitation for athletes. I’ve seen a therapist but he seemed to have a very general practice (which was also busy and meant I didn’t get much individualized attention). Does anyone have recommendations for excellent therapists?
My mom prefers memories over physical gifts. Last year we did a walking food tour on PC Main Street which was fun and more memorable than just going to a nice restaurant by ourselves. Any similar experiences y'all would recommend?
Hey everyone I just moved out here a few weeks ago and the bank I use doesn’t have any branches out in Utah. Is there anywhere near downtown I can cash my paycheck at? Unfortunately it’s a hand written check and I don’t get off work till 8 so check city is already closed. Back home we had smaller places like convenience stores and such that would cash checks. Anything helps! Thank you
Just got some grapefruit from Walmart and it is phenomenal. So now is the time to grab some if you are a grapefruit lover.
Basic question about the Delta Center that I just can't sort the answer to: does "wheelchair" on the Seat Geek ticket mean that no seat is available, just a vacant space to put a wheelchair? Two of the tickets we purchased for our family to attend an upcoming show say "wheelchair" and we're wondering if we will have seats, or just prepare to stand. Thanks!
My friend was hit by it in the parking lot of a maverick and the driver didn't stop. Hoping to at least figure out the company name.
Note: This is an update to my husband and my journey to become rehoused after losing our home of 8 years. I understand that there might be better arenas to share our story, but after 4 months, I have discovered this to be a very intelligent and caring community and writing about our experience has become somewhat cathartic. I understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea. :)
When my Grandfather lost his battle with pneumonia on March 3, 2003, I was the sole Grandchild in a position to accompany my Dad to San Francisco. While my Grandpa was a member of the Neptune Society and did not want any big " hullabaloo" following his death, I felt it was important to honor his legacy in some way. So I purchased several large 3 panel display boards and spent the next week leading up to his "celebration of life," chronicling his many achievements. Fortunately, I was able to glean much information from the obituary published by sfgate.com, the digital home of the San Francisco Chronicle: https://www.sfgate.com/bayarea/article/James-San-Jule-89-S-F-pioneer-housing-2628975.php
It was here that I learned that in addition to helping co-found Eichler Homes, a company known in the 1950's for its socially responsible planning, Grandpa also helped write the legislation that created the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development in 1965. Not too shabby for the son of a once wealthy oil tycoon whose family lost everything in the Great Depression and whose early years as a "teenage hobo" were highlighted in the 1997 documentary film, "Riding the Rails." In 1999, this once homeless young man received the San Francisco Planning and Urban Research Association (SPUR) Silver SPUR Award for lifetime achievement, noting that he had created more than 3,000 units of housing for people of every income level in San Francisco. Despite the obvious parallels to the challenges I am facing today, I wasn't able to realize the irony until my system was able to leave crisis mode this past weekend.
Last week, after 107 days in our car, my husband and I made a desperate plea to the Reddit community. The mental and physical toll of not having a place to call home was nearing crisis point as we faced freezing temperatures and a lack of proper nutrition. It is with immense gratitude that I am writing today's update from a safe and (very) warm hotel room, thanks to the generosity from one very special woman I met right here on this subreddit. And while we have not yet figured out a clear pathway to becoming re-housed, we have renewed hope and faith in the unknown. I can't help but think in some way I am supposed to follow in the footsteps of my Grandfather, whose housing advocacy truly changed the lives of countless individuals. We will continue to hit the proverbial pavement, knowing that in the end, we will more than likely become re-housed without the assistance of any agency or County program. We are thankful for your continued encouragement and support. Today, December 2, 2024, G is for Gratitude 🙏 💜 ❤️
My birthday is coming up and I’m thinking of taking a small road trip trip to Antelope Island or Park City, which one should I go to? I’m looking for pretty views.
I have a cow spine that needs some flesh taken off, and I don’t think I can stomach getting the spinal cord out myself.
Could you share any information you have? I had one lead for a guy with skin beetles but it fell through.
I’m also interested in getting into bone taxidermy generally, so if anyone has any bone leads (cattle graveyards, butchers) please comment below.
Thank you!!
Does anyone have any information regarding housing resources?
My partner and I are separating and I have no idea how I’m going to afford rent. I work for the Postal Service, but every rental I can find is about half my income and I just have no idea how I’m going to survive on that.
Not to mention, I was out of work recently with an injury, and I have no money at all . I 50 bucks to my name and I’d have to figure out how to make the money to put down for a deposit and first months rent and I just have no idea how I’m gonna make that much money in the amount of time that I need to.
I feel like we’re living in an insane world where I have a full-time job and I have an education and I work for the government and yet rent is largely affordable . It’s messed up.

Looking to get my fireplace cleaned and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations! I’m in the West Valley area.
I don’t know when the chimney was last used/cleaned but I’d like to get it up and operational before Christmas.
I really miss good Chinese food since moving here from the Bay Area. I loved Shandong in Oakland and places like Henry's Hunan or Dragon Beaux etc.
I live in Sandy for a few years now, and most of the Chinese restaurants (and Asian in general) are terrible. Most have really slimy and bland food.
The two places I've liked so far are Joy Luck Restaurant (especially the tangerine chicken) and Makanmakan. Honestly China Grill in Cottonwood isn't bad either. But every other one I've tried has been trash. Suggestions please!!
Are there any groups around, formal or informal? I’m trying to improve my health and would much rather basketball over jogging.
Live in the avenues and I feel like I’ve heard more helicopters than normal the last two nights. Seems too loud for Air-med but I could be wrong.
