I’ve done it alone but would be relieved to find people already used to it. Is there a group or anyone in the college age range that would be cool joining me? Doesn’t have to be just 1 person either. Hi, everyone. I'm a linguistics professor at Brigham Young University and I'm doing some research right now on Utah English (and English in the Middle Rockies region generally). I'd like to collect some audio from anyone and everyone who grew up in Utah, regardless of whether you feel like you have an accent.

The task would be to find a quiet place and record yourself reading aloud about 200 words and answer some open-ended questions about yourself and about language. You can just use the microphone built into your phone or computer. The whole thing should take about 10 minutes. (Fair warning: I do ask about affiliation with the LDS church and one of the questions is about whether you think there's a "Mormonese.")

If you grew up speaking English, are 18 or older, and have spent most of your life in Utah, I'd be very grateful if you'd take a few minutes and help me out.

Hey folks! A quick question, I live in Provo and am interested in trying out adult rec softball, but they don't do individual registration for anything softball related (tournaments or the full "season"). So, I'm just wondering if any of you are involved in that sort of thing and could help me out! It might be a shot in the dark but any help would be appreciated!

Moved into the area recently, I'm in the northern part of the valley so I'm open to places in southern Salt Lake Valley as well. Google maps is showing me a lot of really highly rated barbers/haircutters in the area, but some of them specifically only do short (normal) cuts for men. My hair isn't super long but I definitely want it longer than that. It is also somewhat curly. Are there any good barbers in the area who can figure out a good haircut for medium-length curly hair on a man?

Besides meetups, what are some other things you would like to see us get going here? We can start encouraging posts that are specific to Utah County or other such things.

Just reaching out, looking for some non-Mormon friends in the valley. I have two kids under 10. I have LDS friends and they are great, am not looking to offend anyone, but not as like minded and can’t fully be myself. It can be isolating.

My friends and I have been talking about how unique the dating culture in Utah is. It seems that most of the time guys here go for the typical insta blonde white girls with lash extension or vasa dudes. Most of my friends go to BYU, UVU and U of U. All of my friends or people in my social circle who don’t fit this mold have a difficult time dating whether it’s online or meeting people in person. It’s not uncommon for them to be rejected solely based on the fact that they are not blonde. They have been told in person that this is the reason why they want to stop dating. We want to know if the people ñ in Utah have a type? We can’t decide if it’s because there is a certain kind of beauty standard here or it’s just a type that some prefer. We are also curious if this happens in other states or just more common in Utah.
