This is my first year fishing, I bought myself a cheap trout fishing kit from Cabellas with a rod reel combo, some hooks, 2 little spinner baits, and some powerbait worms. I have been up to tibble fork for a total of about 5-6 hours and just finished a 3 hour long session at highland glen park. NOTHING. I'm determined to catch some fish but am not sure if i'm doing things right, any suggestions on different bait and rig options?
Does anyone know of any good spots in cache valley I've been to skylark pond, Hyrum state park, and wellsville reservoir. I've heard of people fishing the canals, but I don't know where the fishable area are, I would really appreciate it if someone could let me know where you can.
Anyone have any luck on trout here?
I want to try out spring fishing at Scofield. I’ve never been before. So, I wanted to know if anyone has any recommendations of what types of lures to use, or what to look for in a good spot. I’ve heard white jigs with night crawlers or sucker meat work well. Is there anything else I should know before I make the journey?
Anyone been down to utah lake and see if the carp have started they're spawn?
First off, I know I am a complete idiot. You don’t need to tell me, I promise. I will pay my fine because I deserve it. Just looking for how much I will need to pay.
My husband was fishing (with a license) and I threw the pole twice while he was cleaning fish. Didn’t even catch a bite. A fish and game guy saw me and cited me. Very nice guy who was just doing his job, no complaints. We are not from here and have to drive home to Arizona tomorrow.
Does anyone know WHAT the fine actually is? And if I can do everything over the phone? Google just says it can be up to 1k and I need to appear in person? Thanks for any help and not yelling at me more than I am already yelling at myself. I love this state and made a mistake I won’t make again.
EDIT: Ticket was $160. Just buy the license people!
I’m relatively new to fishing in general, and have been mostly targeting trout in these cooler months. Last year I had a lot of fun catching catfish and carp off the Jordan River, but I’m curious about the state of bass fishing here.
I know there are some well known bass spots in the valley, like Utah Lake, but are there ever bass in our community ponds? I’ve never seen anyone ever catch one, so I doubt it, but the DWR website says it is possible to catch them in nearly all our ponds.
What is your experience with bass fishing in the community ponds? Is it even a thing? As our hot as hell summer comes around and trout stop biting, i’m looking for something to scratch that itch.
I'll be in Park City the first week of June, and want to hit the Provo and the Weber. I have a lot of experience trout fishing in the North Carolina mountains, and have never used waders. Yes, it's painful, but I'm cheap. Question is, will I be an idiot to try Provo and Weber without them?
Also, I understand public access is tricky in Utah. Given the few public entry points, are there any that are more difficult to get to, that might reduce crowds?
Thanks!
Is there any places in Davis county and salt lake county that allow to do catch and cooks at the lake/pond/? Ive always wanted to but Im not sure if they’ll allow it
Gonna be in Provo tomorrow and have an hour or two to kill. Does anyone know of some good quick spots I can try? I fished the lower Provo/utah lake area quite a bit but I know the river is a lot different now than when I used to live there
Going to target some cats on the south west side of the lake, will let you all know how it goes!
Now that Provo river is gone I don’t know where to look for them
Planning a trip down to DMAD, potentially Gunnison depending on the action at DMAD, this weekend for some shore fishing and kayak fishing. Any suggestions or tips? It'll be my first time kayak fishing. I've heard it can be good fishing, but I also can't seem to find anything on the DMAD for fishing that is recent. Lots of bad rep on utahwildlife from 2010, but that was before they started stocking it well.
Anyone have eyes on Pelican recently?
I do a lot of fishing gear shopping from places that use different types of measurements. So I have created a spreadsheet with common measurements used in fishing and the conversions between the different measurements. I have oz/gram, lb/kg, in/cm, and yards/meters. Any other fishing related suggestions to add to my sheet? Here is the sheet for reference. Thank you for any help! Hopefully this sheet can be useful for others as well. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10xFFNRKtScBo_jwzpzVThcHqm1Z2mTwRcbLyI_12R6o/edit?usp=sharing
Me and some friends are going down to St. George next weekend, and we’re looking for some good spots this time of year. I’ve heard good things of both reservoirs, but I’m wondering which has better shore fishing?
TL;DR Resources or recommendation for destination of 4-day hiking fishing trip in the Uintah’s.
Looking for some guidance on making a Uintah hiking fishing trip worthwhile for novice family members.
I have convinced some family members who aren’t terribly outdoorsy to join me on a hiking fishing trip in late August. I’d like to make the fishing worthwhile; nothing will kill my chances of getting them to come again if it is dead fishing.
Looking at late August four-day trip. One day hiking in, two days fishing, one day hike out. The group is comfortable with a max of 18-20 mile one way for the hike. Experienced hikers but less-experienced fishers. Driving distance is no problem. Anywhere is fair game.
I myself am not an expert or have a wealth of experience to pull from. I’ve been told that Farmers, Timothy, Thompson Lakes are usually good experiences.
Is there a stocking schedule or projected stocking by the DNR that is public information? Any other person or resource to reach out to for insight recommendations?
I’m looking for people here in Utah that trout fish in a kayak. Looking for anyone interested in a few trips/meetups this coming spring/summer.

Anybody catching any splakes or browns at Jordanelle?
I am 17 and i love sailing and i love fishing. i’ve been rebuilding and doing a complete refit on this boat to make it good for fishing and sailing. it is some 14 foot fiberglass sailboat from 1968. I have no titles bill of sale or anything but a california hull number painted on the side. I got it off facebook marketplace for like $300. now i was so excited about getting this boat I failed to consider the laws about it. I’ve been reading up on how to go about getting it registered and it seems i’m in a tricky situation. I’ve found few resources to find out information and i think you guys may be able to help. thank you all very much
If so, how is the ice and the roads? Wanna try to get up there this weekend.
Going out to Park City for a couple weeks in early July for first time with my Wife and our 2 daughters and their spouses. Looking to do at least a day or 2 of fly fishing learning and fishing for all of us. Suggestions on a guide outfit equipped to take on that many novices and get enough education and fishing in to make it a fun and memorable part of the trip ? Me, I’m going to go take a couple days here at home in next month or so, so I don’t look like the 62 yr old man with a long, snapped walking cane :)
I’m free all of February and wondering if there’s any decent winter fishing down south where I won’t be freezing to death.
I have waders by prefer fishing from the shore. Mostly using lures but have a tenkara rod too. Thanks!
I had no luck after 6 hours other than a bite and follow from a white bass. I lost 2 spiners, 2 bobbers, 4 hooks, 2 spoons, 2 weighted heads and lots of line. Please help this is the 6th time i've skunked in a row.
