What is it with the center barriers? Why are there so many?!?!? It's a real B word trying to get to places now because of them.
I have a friend that moved to Tooele a few months ago and he is pretty lonely. He’s about 30(m), single, and is a great guy.
He’s pretty lonely at the moment so I’m trying to help him find opportunities to make friends in the area. Any suggestions?
I’m looking for a garage door mechanic that can repair the damage caused to our garage door. Preferably one that someone else has experience with and doesn’t charge an arm and a leg, any recommendations would be appreciated!

I live in SLC, and today the whole valley (Sandy, Park City, Salt Lake) felt 14-15 extremely loud booms in pairs, apprx a minute to two minutes apart that rattled houses. I’ve never heard anything like it. Police didn’t know what the source was, animals and people were freaking out. The news is now reporting it was Tooele Army Depot. But multiple people posting are saying they live in Tooele and didn’t hear or feel anything.
So please help us out, did yall hear the booms??
Yes my family and I were heading to SLC from Elko Nevada. We drove up on about a half a dozen cars pulled over and what appears to be a woman laying on the road with no vehicles around her. I haven’t been able to find any news about this on KSL. Does anyone know about this and if she survived? We didn’t stop because of how many people were already pulled over and I didn’t want to be in the way but We can’t stop thinking of this lady and hope she is ok.
We are hearing a lot of sirens and it seemed like there was smoke near Maceys (Tue, Sep 10). Anyone know anything?
Over the last couple years swig has been blocked several times and it's starting to make me mad a bit.
TLDR: Vote among Gen Z and Millennials tends to split 24 points to (D) vs (R). Because of this, it is not only possible, but extremely likely that if we increase voter turnout in this age group, we could flip several Federal representatives as well as who our electors go to for the Presidential Election (see chart below).
You have the power to turn Utah Blue; it is not only possible, but likely if you decide to show up and take the power that is rightfully yours!
p.s. to all of my more conservative friends, family, and fellow Utahns: I want you all to vote too! Even if doing so prevents Utah from flipping blue, I am of the opinion that higher voter turnout allows us to better hold our State representatives (including the Governor) accountable to us and not their donors and small special interest groups.

Good evening everyone!
I am back this week with another message to our Gen Z and Millennial populations: Please vote! This graph above shows the number of Gen Z + Millennial voters likely to split towards (D) and (R) as well as the amount of votes needed to flip the winners from (R) to (D). An important note in this, the math is hard because of how Utah calculates age groups and the twin factors of people aging into voting and people passing away (ie no longer able to vote). So the math is rough, but all signs point to Gen Z + Millennials being able to flip Utah blue if they come out and show up.
You are the largest voting block, you tend to lean more liberal (yes, even in Utah) by an approximate whopping 24 points! You have the power to shape Utah and make it yours, all you have to do is reach out and take it! Voting is so easy, registering takes only a few minutes and mail in voting is allowed if you are not able to physically show up to the polls.
Now, as a side note, and I think it is important to point this out. In my last few posts I have had several people stating that I am 'spreading liberal propaganda.' So I just want to touch on my background and some of my thoughts on conservatism and Utah.
I was raised in, at the time, a very small and rural area. I always considered myself to be rather conservative and was raised with the ideology of 'mind your own d*** business.' I was always taught that a smaller government is better able to represent the people and is necessary to help society function, but that it should be limited in nature. That is, I don't think that the government should be in my gun safe, my bedroom, my doctors office, my marriage, or my wife and daughter's underwear. I don't understand how the modern 'conservative' party (ie, the Republican party) has morphed into this weird party where they want the government to control medical decisions for my wife and children, who my cousin can or can't marry while at the same time completely ignoring their role to better society for everyone and not just the few.
I want our government to use the taxes to make society better. Build better public transportation (if China can have a bullet train, we should be able to have at least that), feed all of our kids in school, work on solutions so that we do not have any Vets living on the street. I don't want to government trying to make medical decisions for my girls, telling my community what books we can access, or inserting themselves into the legal contracts between two consenting adults.
As a conservative, I am in favor of taxation with representation. That taxes are used to create a society, and that the government keeps it's nose out of our privates.
In closing, we need to be able to hold our government accountable, so I hope all Utahns, but especially the younger Gen Z and Millennials, will go out and vote in droves; regardless of if they plan on voting (D) or (R). Do I have a preference? Absolutely, as conservative as I am the (R) party has warped into the party of big government and the (D) party, while sometimes supporting a bigger government that I would like, at least has ideology in using taxes to better society for our kids.
So, younger generations, please help us hold our government accountable. Get out there and vote! The power is yours, TAKE IT!
TLDR: The data shows that if we increase voter turnout between 30% to 40% Utah could flip many of it's Federal races Blue, and this includes the race for President. Also, younger voters (Gen-Z and Millennials) are MUCH less likely to vote...so get out and vote (yes, even my conservative family, friends, and fellow Utahns)!
Also, mail in voting is
quick and easy and in the State of Utah EVERYONE is allowed to vote by mail!

Hi Everyone!
Yesterday I posted a general graph showing, visually, the difference between votes acquired by the winning persons in 2020 and 2022 to the total votes and total eligible voters. Well I am back today with some numbers instead of charts as I saw a few comments that indicated numbers might help drive the point home.
What these charts show are basically the same thing in the graph, that the winners in each of the federal elections (and Governor's Race) won no more than 44% of the eligible voting population total! To me, that is absolutely insane! In fact, the closest race (2020 House-4) could have flipped with just 2% more votes!
I think it is pretty well established fact that younger voters (particularly Gen-Z and Millennials) are extremely underrepresented when it comes to voting. As the data shows, if we could have increased voting by a mere 30%-40% we could have flipped several of these races, including who our delegates went to for President!
I don't think most younger people truly understand how significant their vote is. In fact, as the second table shows, Gen-Z and Millennials make up almost 60% of our eligible voting population! Yet, most reports indicate that turnout among this group is substantially lower than any other group. If this group can show up, Utah can flip blue in this election.
A side note for my more conservative friends, family, and fellow Utahns: I want ALL of you to vote as well! Our politicians here, locally, have done some crappy things, like trying to strip our power (ie, making voter lead initiatives harder to pass/take effect. If we all vote, we can show them they have to
represent us and not just their smaller base and special interest groups.
Voting in large numbers help us hold them accountable to we the people and
ensures that they do not tread on us like they have very recently tried to do!
** Just some data notes (and sources listed below): Population estimates were pulled from three different sources that all varied slightly (but are all valid and used by different government agencies, so you may see some slightly different numbers. The three sources were IBIS, U.S. Census Bureau, and the Kem C. Gardner Institute). Also, for the second table I made some estimates based on previous year's population changes for 2024 :) A little messy, but get the general idea across.

Does anyone know what happened to the guy who started the Jacob city fire a few years back, I know eventually the charges were dropped. Just wondering if anyone knows how that all panned out.
I'm new to fishing and have been fishing at Settlement Canyon for about a week, So far I have had no luck getting a hook on anything not even a nibble. So if anyone has fished at Settlement Canyon and caught anything, yes then what type of fishing, lures, and bait did you use, and at what hours and any tips I could get to help get a fish? I'm also looking for nearby lakes that people recommend are not too far from Tooele help would be highly appreciated.
Edit: I want to thank the gentleman for the amazing advice they gave me, as I was able to catch my first fish. It was a small tiger trout but a fish is a fish. Unfortenly I didn't have a knife on me so I released it afterward. Caught it on a weighted bait rig which I added some orange power bait eggs. As for Jake Lure, I have had no luck as of now but I'll keep trying. I'm pretty sure all this is unnecessary but I'm just happy I caught something other than algae.
Has anyone hiked to the Butterfield peaks from the middle canyon trailhead - where it's middle canyon on one side and butterfield canyon on the other.
Looking to do it in a week or so. wanted some insight if anyone has any.
Hello everyone,

Thank you!

Hi, I'm a grad student at the U moving to SP in the fall looking for folks to carpool with me on my twice weekly commute to campus (every Tuesday and Thursday morning). I have a car (can fit 3 passengers comfortably) and am looking for people to carpool with me to help save on gas. I would ask for compensation for gas as well as a bit to cover my car insurance and maintenance, but we could work out the exact amount. Let me know if this would interest you. Preferably looking for people with reliable, regular schedules who I could depend on to pick up at consistent times every week.

Me and hubby are looking to move to this new subdivision. We love the homes, look, layout, area but there are so many homes for sale that people have only lived in for a few years. Are the homes lemons? Anyone have any insight? Most of the streets are named for stones, Quartz, Marble, etc.
