My dad is selling his music collection at traders village

Hi! Dad is facing some health issues and working to consolidate his collections. He has an eclectic taste in music, mostly bluegrass, that he is trying to offload at traders village. If you happen to be walking around the flea market this weekend, it would mean a lot to a really fantastic person is you stop and shuffle through a collection gathered over the last three decades.

My friend is alone in Houston with years depression.

I have a friend who has years of depression and badly need help. He divorced more than 10 years ago, has a daughter in college that her mom has custody since divorce. He lost job in early 2019, had no money and thus moved out from apartment. His ex wife was kind enough to let him stay in her small rental house (less than 1000 sqft for less than $100k value) upon daughter's request. She thought he could find another job fairly soon.

He completely ran out of money years ago and his ex gave him little money monthly to survive. He refused to talk to his ex now and his ex cannot do anything more as her current husband (who is also kind) has separated with her due to this situation.

He is 54, without family, long-term depression and bipolar (most probably). I live in California and can really do nothing. His ex contacted me but not to complain. She is kind and told me she has done all she can do, and she worries his condition. He refuses to talk her, won't cook in the tiny rental house even though she brings eggs, meats, bread and vegetables weekly.

He has no insurance, but I feel the only way for him is to seek some help from government services. I don't live in Houston or Texas. So I am here and any suggestion is welcome.

BTW, his ex has done much more than I expected. I cannot ask anything more. If there is an number we can call to help and get him to see doctor, please let me know. Appreciate!

    UPDATE:

Thank you all for help! Much appreciate for all the information and kind words! I am planning a trip to there, with another friend from Canada. We will do what we can do.

    Best cell phone provider

I’m trying to get a pulse on what the best cell phone provider is in terms of coverage. I work all over the city and don’t always get service. Currently have Verizon.

    In home hospice care

    Hi,

My father unfortunately is not well and I am looking to locate a 24 hour nurse to administer healthcare in his last days. The hospices I speak with do not have this service and I am looking to find a private nurse to hire. I'd appreciate it if anyone could send me some information

    Thank you so much!

    Power outages/brown outs today?

Has anyone experienced outages today? Place in Copperfield/NW is having super inconsistent power starting 10 minutes ago. Currently out but it was browning out for 5 minutes or so.

Edit: Centerpoint's map doesn't show it, but calling the automated line indeed confirms there is one.

Edit 2: Centerpoint estimated 7:30 PM fix time, after a hour, at 5:23 it may be back on..

    Chances of early morning uber?

I'm heading to Houston for a cram course and am tossing up between two flights for my domestic return. One of them offers free carryon but is at 5:30am for the return. So I'm guessing I'd need to leave at 2am. Thing is I'm worried about my chances of getting a 2am uber at hazyknoll lane 77067. Can anyone tell me if it'd be too risky and I'm better off getting the afternoon flightinstead?

edit: thanks guys! I booked the early morning flight with extra baggage.

seeing all the responses reassuring me and none saying otherwise really reassured me and the family. I really appreciate it.

    Northern lights

I saw on click2houston that people saw the northern lights in Kingwood, spring branch and other areas. Does anyone know at what time the lights were visible? There may be a chance of them being seen again tonight.

Looking for a few recommendations; antique shops, boutiques, record stores, markets/pop ups, etc

I'm in Houston for the weekend with my wife and we are trying to figure out a few more things to do later today and tomorrow, we are staying in Montrose so nearby places would be preferred, but we are open to driving a bit.

What we are most after are antique/vintage shops, we enjoy finding nice little knickknacks for the house, vintage clothing, and furniture (we got the SUV with us thankfully).

As far as record stores, I love Houston Rap (Z Ro, DJ Screw, Scarface, UGK, the whole SUC, etc) and old school latino music (boleros, corridos, cumbia) so any shops that specialize in these genders would be great, but if not, anything with a good hip hop, indie/alt rock, and jazz collection would be nice.

As far as markets or pop ups, we're really just trying to get a taste of local restaurants/food vendors, artists, local businesses, etc. Ideally something with a mix of different cultures; Latinos, Blacks, Asians, even white people have their cool shit (please don’t take this seriously lol)

    Thanks allll

What’s going on at Hermann Park?

Park rangers have closed multiple entrances and lots. I get that it’s a Saturday but it’s actually impossible to even enter a parking lot. Is this normal for Saturdays?

Public action against the cancellation of bus rapid transit projects?

    Hello Houston,

You might have heard of METRO’s recent measures taken to walk back on proposed bus rapid transit projects voted on in the MetroNext plan, such as reduction of service on existing BRT (the silver line) and removal of all mention of all BRT projects from their website. Does anyone know of any sort of public action, like petitions or protests, that’s being being made against these decisions, and how one might participate? I’m fairly new to the process, is it possible to speak and air grievances at board meetings or any other sort of community outreach forum?

    Roof top ac compressor overheat

My lennox 5ton roof top ac unit stop working. get two Ac mechanics quotes. Both quotes around 2k-3k to fix the issues. The reason for the ac unit stop working is the compressor overheat and shutdown down after running for 10 min. The fan is still running but compressor is shutoff. one company claimed to replaced the capacitor and maybe the compressor may need to replace(extra charge) and the other company claimed that the problem is the txv valve needs to be replaced. i don’t know who to trust and it’s worth it to put 2k-3k to replace this roof top unit.

What is the best brunch spot in the Porter/Kingwood/Humble for Mother's day?

It's my first Mother's Day with my boyfriend's Mom. He ran away from home 24 years ago and I found her and reunited them for Christmas. It is there first Mother's Day together after he spent 24 of them crying and missing her. I want it to be a special day. She lives in Porter and we get about 2 hours with her on Sunday morning. Where should we go?

Does Houston PD Have a Duty to ID Policy?

Does the Houston Police Department have an internal rule which compels officers to give their name and badge number upon request from a citizen? If so, is it more of a suggestion or a rule?

    Northern Lights

I am in Tomball and do not see them, and I am jealous of the a-holes in Katy and Lake Conroe who claim they have.

    So.

Everyone everywhere needs to turn everything off so the rest of us can see them. Thank you, that is all.
