Apartment recommendations

Anyone have an apartment recommendation in this area? I really like the suburbs and I’d like to find an apartment in this community. Trying to avoid horrible landlords or pest infestations. My budget is $2000. Thank you in advance

Looking for Dental Patients!

Hi! I am a dental student at UTHealth School of Dentistry at Houston and I am currently looking for patients who may need the following:

  • Crowns
  • Root Canals
  • Complete or Partial Dentures
  • Fillings

If you are interested, please message me so we can see if you might be a good fit for our student program! Everything is supervised with licensed dentists, and all of our procedures are at a reduced rate compared to what you might find in private practice. We don’t accept insurance, however our costs reflect that and in return for your time.

Please reach out if you may be interested!

In Pearland for the afternoon

Like the title says. I’m staying here for a meeting tomorrow. I have this afternoon totally open. What’s something interesting to see or do? I do have a rental so can drive wherever. Any ideas welcome! I just have to be a human by 8am tomorrow. Haha.

Playgrounds

Hi! I just moved here a few months ago and I’m looking for a playground that I can take my almost 1 year old daughter too, preferably one that has baby swings (you would think they all do but I have found the neighborhood playgrounds near me don’t).

Also, gladly accepting any recommendations of other things I can do with my little one. Thanks!

Anyone know of a murder at Green Tee?

I was talking to my aunt today and she was recounting a stabbing that must’ve happened sometime in the early 2000s. All she could remember was that it was at a house party at Green Tee and some kid got stabbed directly in the heart and died. The murderer was named Eric or something like that?

Tried to scroll through Google and look but found nothing. Any of y’all know what I’m talking about?

And before anyone says it, I’m not talking about the 4/20 house show where a kid got stabbed back in 2019 (or around there). I was there for that one lol

Looking for Recurring Groups to Join

Hello! I just moved to the Pearland area, I don't have kids, and I'm looking for recurring/ongoing groups in the area to get involved with.

Things like good fitness classes, walking/running clubs, social clubs, coworking mixer groups. Anything where people meet up regularly!

Does anyone know of any good groups?

McClean Road.

Who's fixing and paving McClean Road? Looks like Lightning McQueen is doing the job.

Doesn't the city have inspectors who check the work? It's bad enough that it's taken weeks longer than it should have, now it's a washboard.

Any events or things to do?

Are there any upcoming events or fun things to do pearland? (Preferably west side) I’m running out of ideas of things to do with my friends lol. It’s always go out to eat, walk around some stores or parks, picnics and pairings. I’ve been wanting to try something new with them. I don’t mind spending some money but free would definitely be nice haha. Thanks in advance! xx

Light Sport Aircraft rental and training?

I'm currently looking to get my Sport Pilot License (SPL) but have been hitting a wall finding a Light Sport Aircraft (LSA) rental in the Houston area. I've spoken with a few CFIs who are available for training, but the issue is securing an aircraft. Due to some regrettable decisions made during COVID, getting a Private Pilot License (PPL) isn’t an option for the next few years, though it should not be an issue down the road. However, I’d rather not wait that long. I plan to handle the extra 20 hours needed for the PPL later on.

I haven't had my first flight in an LSA yet, though I’ve flown as a passenger in Cessna 172s. I’m really eager to get some hands-on experience in an LSA. I work remotely, so I’m flexible with location—anywhere from The Woodlands to Corpus Christi works for me. Port Aransas and Pearland are preferred, but I’m willing to travel farther if necessary.

If anyone has leads on LSA rentals or knows of CFIs who rent LSAs in these areas, your help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Pearland is just not a good place for families and kids.

I have lived in Pearland, TX for over 20 years. I have two kids who are now 18 and 20, and both did their elementary, middle, jr, and high school with Pearland ISD. We moved here due to work and the school system is good compared to other school district. When my kids were young, we used to walk after school to the many schools in the area and play basketball, soccer, baseball, etc. I would see parents and other kids/teenagers running, exercising, etc. Then the school shooting began and schools started putting fences around the playgrounds and fields, and some fields would be open after school. The other day I went to Dawson HS and noticed that now they have put more fencing a locked the gates and posted notices that they cannot be used by the community unless you rent them. Since when the public schools became for profit facilities? As far as I know, we paid for those schools with our taxes, schools are part of the community. or at least should be. I know that Texas is not known for education (#29 in education), but Pearland I thought was better than average, I guess the race to the bottom is going on. I spoke to my son and many of his friends that used to go to Dawson after school to play soccer, run, etc., now will have to pay to rent the field, or go somewhere else. I guess we want an uneducated and unhealthy population in Pearland. The other park near Dawson has been locked for years and you have to park in the neighborhood across the street and jump the small fence, have not checked to see if they will also be putting a higher fence and renting the fields. I also understand that every once in while adults might be using the fields for pick up games, and that can dealt with withouth having to tell kids to stay home and watch more tv. And I will just mention that it took the city of Pearland about 5 years to fix the street next to Dawson HS, that is how much this city cares about its students. I'm sure that street had more potholes than the moon. Let's pay more attention to what is going on, government is us and it should be to serve us. We have many problems in Texas and it looks like city and state government are not interested in fixing any of them.

Did anyone else hear air raid sirens around 4am?

Heard a bunch of air raid-sounding sirens, very distinctly not PD or FD sirens, around 4am from West Pearland. Did anyone else hear them, and does anyone know what they are?

Anyone have experience with EZEE Fiber?

They just finished deploying in my neighborhood and their sales people have been calling me like crazy trying to sign up. I currently have AT&T Fiber (300) and after switching out a problematic modem, it's worked flawlessly even after Hurricane Beryl.

I'm curious if anyone here is using them and what their experience has been, especially with outages. My wife and I both work from home regularly so uptime is very important to us. I'm especially curious about their equipment - I currently use AT&T's equipment and while limited in functionality, it works for our needs and has been reliable.

Looking for apartments

I'm looking for apartment recommendations! I'm hoping for somewhere quiet. I'd prefer a 2bd but we'd be happy with 1bd. Our max budget for rent a month is $1400 (if there's no utilities included). Anywhere in Pearland/friendswood/Webster works for us. It's just me and my husband for now.

call to thrifters: where do yall shop?

Im an avid thrift shopper who moved to Pearland recently. Ive been to the goodwill, salvation army, and adjacent 2-3 other consignment stores in the same immediate area. they are BUSTED imo.

To those who love thrifting, where do yall go? Even if its outside of pearland, willing to drive 20-30 minutes for a good thrift.

Need help with old location

Hello! My friend and I grew up in Pearland and are digging in our brains for what used to be where the Papa John’s is now. The one next to Shipley and Subway near the old bowling alley location.

It’s been a PJ for so long it’s all I can remember. I’m guessing it would’ve been early 90s.

Thanks in advance!

What happened to Fire Stone Pizza Bar?

I see that it permanently closed down? That was my favorite pizza place to order from on Ubereats. Their crust tasted great, and they had the chocolate cake with a white chocolate layer.

Where else should I order a pizza and chocolate cake from?

Pearland ISD - A comedy of errors

The sheer amount of reports on bullying, sexual assaults and bomb/shooting threats that go unreported to parents and the community are alarming, at every grade level. The incident that occurred at Cockrell Elementary a few days ago has me flabbergasted. My son was in the classroom that the “kill list” was found in. When asked why ALL parents were not notified of the incident, PISD admins informed me that only the parents of students who were “directly involved” in the incident were notified. As in the student who made the list and students on the list. They also used the term “credible threat”, as if there is such a thing. A threat is a threat.

I have contacted several media channels and presented evidence of PISD grossly mishandling these issues. I implore you to do the same. At the very least, an informed community is a safer community. Please, keep in mind that it’s the admins and district that are falling short here. Not the teachers. The policy on these issues is a joke. Speak up, if you’re concerned. The only way to start change is to open a conversation. Thanks for reading.
