Is there anyone in Irving that has some experience in sales and marketing and willing to help a new tech startup market our app around various Farmer's Markets throughout DFW? Please feel free to DM me or email at support@surplate.net
Hi everyone,
I grew up here years ago and when I was looking on old photos and memories - it made me wonder - what happened to the houses here? I know the land is still empty and the roads have potholes galore, but what happened? Is this ever going to be redeveloped?
This is on Esters Rd by Northgate and 161 by Sedona Park Apartments.
UPDATE !!!
So, after posting this, I realized I could look up Dallas County Property Records (lol) and found out a lot more info that explains (?) what happened but not about what will happen.
Found it from this thread:
Long story short, the community was building in the 1980s when DFW Airport began to buy up property when they built a new runway over issues with noise concerns. Apparently many cities and communities sued, but this division was bought out and current Dallas County Property Records point to an owner associated with DFW Airport. Since they weren't able to buy out other significant property, the other apartments and homes stayed.
But with the evolution of planes and all, the area has been seeing new development except this particular neighborhood -- which is random and I wonder what'll happen.
also, one of the commentators on the thread noted this 1993 Dallas Morning News Article:
The Dallas Morning News - Friday, June 11, 1993

Crews start demolition for airport expansion
IRVING -- Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport officials on Thursday began demolishing the first of more than 100 houses that will be cleared to make way for a runway on the airport's east side. Workers began tearing down a house in the 4200 block of North Greenview Drive, which the airport purchased this spring as part of its hardship buyout plan. Planning and Engineering Director Jeff Fegan said the house was not salvageable and needed to be torn down for safety reasons. The Greenview Hills neighborhood is one of three that will be razed to make a clear zone for the planned runway. Mr. Fegan said officials expect to begin work on the runway within months. Officials in Grapevine, Euless and Irving have vowed to stop airport expansion in court.
Also - a commenter thinks that Chuck Norris blew this neighborhood up on a episode of Texas Rangers!
Hello,
I am looking to move into the Las Colinas area for work in mid to late November. I was looking into apartments such as Jefferson Place and Calloway and saw that they were on the cheaper end compared to those at Lake Carolyn. I’d prefer a studio or a 1 bed 1bath apartment. Hoping for monthly rent to be under $1300
Thanks
Edit: I am willing to up my budget in order to avoid roach issues, my only way of transportation would be through public transit
Hello, I’m a chiropractic intern in my 3rd year at Parker university and am looking for patients. I’m not from TX, so I am having a hard time getting patients/credits to graduate, so any help would be great. I am currently working under a licensed DC in the school clinic, If you or anyone you know are suffering from any musculoskeletal problem such as back pain or neck pain or just want to get adjusted I would happy to help.
First responders (police, firefighters) receive free care, students and teachers receive a 30% discount, and we also support active military and qualifying veterans by providing them with free treatment. You can call and schedule at 972-438-9355. Make sure to request intern Sam Eberhardt when scheduling. Thank you!
Hello! I am a committee lead for a non-profit organization and am looking for a location to host an in-person meeting this Saturday for 6-8 people. We will need space for our laptops and WiFi to allow a virtual component for members who can’t make it in-person. Irving is the in between point for the committee.
I heard Hudson house had a private room but they have a $1,000 minimum. We don’t mind paying for food but we also don’t want to spend more than we normally would. I looked at libraries and rec centers but since I’m not an Irving resident, reservations seem pricey and complicated.
Now I’m considering a boba/coffee cafe or a Panera bread. I would really appreciate any other recommendations.
To everybody who just rode around through Lake Carolyn honking incessantly, blasting obnoxious music, and waving your political flags (I'll let you guess which candidate), I wish each and every one of you a very merry testicular torsion.
Anybody have any feedback for this place?
i'm trying to find a coffee shop other than starbucks or pax and beneficia (been there wayyyy too many times). i don't mind driving a little extra ways, maybe 10/15 min away from south irving. any recommendations? (also hoping they have turkish coffee, but that's not a requirement)
Back when I was a kid, Lake Carolyn was the place to be. The Colonial Reserve was this incredible community, Alesio was actually a nice spot, and we had Granada Market right there! There was even this Japanese restaurant called Jinbeh where Cielito is now. Everything was pristine, alive, and thriving.
Then I moved to LA for a bit, and when I came back? It’s like skid row decided to crash the party—except, you know, with gondolas. The Italian Café? They’ve completely given up. I’m not even exaggerating when I say they use black trash bags to cover part of their kitchen. I guess that’s their solution to hygiene problems—out of sight, out of mind, right?
And the gondolas? Yeah, forget romantic rides. The whole gondola area now feels like a busted dock. There’s this weird smell, and you’re not sure if you're in for a scenic boat ride or about to witness a low-budget drug deal. Between the smell of weed, homeless folks hanging around, and the occasional hooker, it’s more like Skid Row Waterworld than a relaxing lakeside vibe.
And Alesio? Yikes. It’s like they decided to let the place completely fall apart. Dogs are pooping everywhere like it’s a free-for-all. The parking lots smell like pee 24/7, and the neighbors are up on their balconies, yelling in Spanish like they’re hosting a live Pablo Escobar reenactment.
All the stores are closed, too. I mean, why would anyone shop here? Roaches have taken over the apartments. Alesio’s letting just about anyone in, and apparently, that includes the bugs.
Thinking about giving it a go but I’m very slow. 13ish minute miles on long runs. Will I be in last?
I never see anyone on this sub recommend them. I just wonder what the experiences are living there as opposed to the other apartments in the area since they have all of the restaurants around them and have less of a chance of other competitor apartment issues like roaches and car breakins reaching them since they're in their own little area.
Is this a decent place to live?
Lately, I’ve noticed something around Lake Carolyn in Irving—every evening, the smell of weed is everywhere. It feels like people are treating marijuana as if it’s legal here, but it’s still not in Texas, as far as I know. And it’s obvious that most of this isn’t for medical purposes.
I’m not here to judge anyone’s choices, but there’s a time and place for everything. Smoking in public spaces, especially where kids and families are out, just doesn’t seem right. If you’re going to smoke, at least do it indoors. Sitting on a park bench and lighting up in front of everyone is just irresponsible.
I’m surprised there doesn’t seem to be much enforcement either. I get that the police can’t be everywhere, but maybe it’s time we all took a bit more responsibility and kept things respectful for the community. Anyone else noticing this?
If you come across a review mentioning German roaches, don’t ignore it. Even one sighting should be enough to reconsider that apartment. Here’s why:
1. German Roaches Are Incredibly Hard to Get Rid Of
German roaches breed quickly and hide in the tiniest spaces. Once they get into an apartment, they don’t just stay in one unit—they’ll spread through walls, pipes, and vents, affecting the entire building. Getting rid of them requires aggressive pest control, and even then, it can take months to see results. If management isn’t proactive, you’ll be living with the problem long-term.
2. Irving Apartments Are Particularly Prone to Infestations
If you’ve been around Irving, you probably know roach infestations are common. Many apartment complexes just aren’t careful enough with prevention or maintenance, which allows roaches to thrive. Even in apartments that treat regularly, the problem can persist due to the environment and lack of proper pest control strategies.
3. The Real Downsides of Having Roaches in Your Apartment
Living with roaches comes with some serious downsides:
Health Risks: Roaches spread bacteria, contaminate food, and can trigger allergies or asthma.
Constant Sightings: You’ll see them in your kitchen, bathroom, or even your bed, especially at night when they come out to feed. It's unsettling.
Damage to Property: Roaches can chew on materials like paper and fabric, leaving your belongings damaged.
Difficult to Get Rid Of: Even with professional pest control, roaches hide so well that you’ll still see them crawling around for weeks, sometimes months.
Sleep: You can never be sure they are gone, imagine you see one in your bedroom or near your bed. That's it, game over.....
4. Always Check Google Reviews
Before signing any lease, check Google reviews. If even one review mentions German roaches, it’s a big warning sign. Roaches aren’t an isolated issue—they spread fast, and the fact that someone felt the need to leave a review means the problem is likely much bigger than just one apartment. And once roaches are in, they’re tough to fully eliminate.
Bottom Line: If you see a roach review, especially in Irving, think twice. Roaches are more than just a nuisance—they affect your health, comfort, and sanity. It's better to avoid the headache altogether and find a cleaner, more diligent apartment management team.
I encourage everyone to vote early for the November 5 election. You can vote early this week 8 AM to 5 PM at the following locations:
I voted yesterday at the Irving Arts Center. There was no line, no crowds, no electioneering or intimidation, and they had everything running nicely. The construction on MacArthur there is a little annoying but not too disruptive.
There is only one proposition on the ballot for us, Proposition A: "Adoption of the state law applicable to fire fighters that establishes collective bargaining if a majority of the affected employees favor representation by an employees association". I recommend voting FOR. See more here: https://www.irvingfirefighters.org/initiatives/what-is-collective-bargaining.
Anyone have recs for a card/collectible shop in Irving?
It's a few inches thick it's not one of those old massive tvs, but I'm having the hardest time getting rid of this thing. Best buy, for example, says they will take it for 60 dollars, if they are delivering a new tv. If I just want them to come pick it up, it will be 200, TWO HUNDRED dollars to haul it away. They only take up to 49 inch tvs for free. My tv is 6 inches too big. I called Irving waste collection, and they told me to leave it on my curb, but I told them I live in an apartment, and they said they can't help then. I can't just leave it on the curb.
I don't have 200 bucks to throw out a tv, and my understanding is that it can be illegal to throw them in a dumpster because of the toxic materials.
I need some help figuring out what to do with this thing. I mean it kind of works, it just shuts off and turns back on all the time. I don't use it any more and it just takes up space and gets dusty. Any ideas out there? Who's got a nice curb where they collect electronics? lol.

Moving to Irving area for work. I’m looking for 2 bedroom ($2,000 budget). Non-negotiablea:
Hey, looking for a sane, sensible and responsible roommate.
I’m a highly educated married man who travels to Irving once a week for three days for work; usually here Mon-Weds or Tues-Thurs. (or ?).
The rest of the time I live in my home in Florida with my wife. Her job is in Florida. My job transferred to Texas, unfortunately. But, I like what I do, I make animated videos for a couple of large Dallas corporations.
From the guest room. Only slept on a handful of times. Text if interested, first come first serve— 916-534-8150
City is picking up Monday (10/21) last chance
