Just watched Sicario and absolutely love the tactical army parts of the movie. Do you guys have suggestions of other movies where they highlight the tactical missions and combat?
In real life, good doesn't always win. Especially in the olden times, when there were no cameras, no phones, and no means of recording events, one can only imagine how many horrible incidents must have occurred simply because there was no one to witness them, or because the perpetrator was stronger or more powerful.
I am looking for a movie featuring a truly evil, ruthless character with no remorse and no regard for societal norms—someone who does whatever they please without hesitation.
Let me give you an example to get a feel of what I am looking for -
If you have watched the series Game of Thrones, there is a scene where The Mountain kills Oberyn Martell by pressing his thumbs into his opponent's eyes while vividly describing how he raped Oberyn's sister and then killed her. One can imagine Oberyn helplessness in his final moments. He finally finds out for a fact that the mountain did indeed did that and there is nothing he can do about it now that he is about to die.
Trying to find good mythology/historical adaptations either modernized or historically based. Obviously there's a ton, and I've seen gladiator, pompeii, troy, troy fall of a city, the updated percy jackson show, kaos, barbarians, and a little bit of American gods. The thing I've been struggling with is finding ones that didn't age horribly. Could not get through 300 it was so so painful and offensive to watch personally, so anything that's more modern like kaos or at least vaguely historically/myth based like troy fall of a city that would be amazing. Tons and tons of bonus points for if it passes the bechdel test or has at least 1 interesting female character, but idk how reasonable that is in this genre. I'm desperate for suggestions! Thanks!
What are your fav comedy movies about the making of a movie?
I great reference for me is the TV episode of Community called 'Documentary Filmmaking: Redux'
I was thinking I don't know any movies with this subject so here looking for recs.
There's a million sci-fi crime movies that are popular and well regarded but I can seldom think of many fantasy counterparts that are just as good, or any much at all
the "supernatural" subgenre works as well
doesn't have to be a thriller, though I'd prefer it
but it needs to be a crime movie
Looking into doing some research for a potential short film. Recently watched Whateverest and really enjoyed it.
What other similar mockumentary's should I check out? Short or feature length?
Hi ! I'm looking for some horror movies where people are visiting an abandoned place.
A few people doing an urbex and being chased by a man/something. I don't want something gory with a lot of blood, I'd like the movies to have a creepy ambiance and with a lot of suspense
I'm really into British history and recently watched movies like Dunkirk, Darkest Hour, The Imitation Game, Pride and Prejudice and shows like Peaky Blinders and The Gentlemen. I can also enjoy older ones like The King, Outlaw King, and The Last Kingdom.
Movies on historical events/wars and those with academic themes like are specially welcome!
Hi,
I'm not sure how to explain what exactly I'm looking for, but I've got an itch to watch something gothic, passionate, dark, and pretty. I've watched Bram Stokers' Dracula one too many times, and Castlevania scratched that itch a bit, but no other recommendation has come close.
It doesn't necessarily have to be vampires; Lars von Trier's Antichrist and Park Chan Wooks The Handmaiden worked for me too.
I watched Valley Girls today and actually really liked it. I thought it was amazing to see 1983 California's San Fernando Valley portrayed on the screen.
I watch movies with my wife and sometimes modern chick flicks come on and I am not into them and need to find a compromise. My wife is into the funny 2000s chick flicks or modern scifi and I can't really get into those movies.
I'm more into The Godfather, Scarface, Rebel Without a Cause, 1930s movies, or 1950s scifi like The Blob (1958) or The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951).
I thought Valley Girls was a cultural icon and looking to see any other similar movies for the next movie night.
It wasn't the story line that got me, it showed how a lot of the 90s or even 2000s culture came from that time (1983) in San Fernando Valley. The slang words and phrases especially. It was a culture that hadn't really spread around the country yet (Sushi in 1983..... Yoga... "totally"....even health food stores weren't as popular as now, where you'd find all 3 of those nearly everywhere across the country).
I guess Clueless has similarities, but I'm looking for something 1980s.
I'm planning to watch Fast Times in Ridgemont High soon, I've had it on my list to see.
I've only seen a handful of movies that give off the same vibe, and I've been tryna find more so I'm gonna ask ya'll. It can be old or new, doesn't matter to me. Thanks.
I absolutely love absurd killers. So far I've watched:
Rubber
Killer Sofa
Drone
Bad CGI Gator
Bad CGI Sharks
Christine
Every Sharknado
Clownado
Birds
Cocaine Crabs from Outer Space
Slotherhouse
Velocipastor
Leprechaun
Night Swim
Winnie the Pooh, Blood and Honey
Cocaine Bear
Anaconda/Piranha/Jaws/all of those (mostly looking for the more stupid ones)
I think those are all. As you can see, I love the stupid and absurd kind of slasher movies. Recommend me your favorites and the best worst movies on the genre you can find. (Garbage is ok, the worst thing you can say about a movie is that it was boring)
Looking to see if anyone has good recommendations for Movies set in the upper echelons of LA like Hollywood, WeHo, and Beverly Hills. Movies like Swingers and Once upon a time in Hollywood, where you get to feel like you’re living in Hollywood. Let me know!
I am looking for movies that present small town america in a positive light. But, not kids movies or coming of age or naustalgia (sic). Just movies that counter the tendency to present small towns as fundamentally evil writhing in crime and corruption. Something that presents the positive side of small town america - without being fantasy or teen.
Hello, I just read a post asking for suggestions on movies that traumatized you. If anyone is familiar with the movie Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom, I would argue that it’s probably the most horrific and traumatizing movie I’ve ever watched. As someone who used to love horror, crime, mystery, etc., movies, this one was absolutely horrific.
I’m not necessarily suggesting this movie unless you’re ready to cry and feel terrible inside for the rest of your day. It was a heartbreaking film that I felt was so unbelievably devastating.
Some cosmic horror movies with undefinable horror and it seems like all the hope is gone.
something like the new uzumaki anime where some unexplainable events happens and there are these signs of something big happening. Some movies which are like the manga of junji ito will be appreciated.
Looking for some movies to watch on TV. Don`t want them to be masterpieces as I will watch them in the cinema. But some good movies I can watch at home but not feel bad for not watching at the big screen.
like in Sicario, Dogville, Defiance etc. Movies where all the villains get taken out in one satisfying fell swoop. If the bad guy's team/family gets taken iut by another bad guy that's also good. Just any good movie thst executes this well (perhaps with a heavy dose of moral ambiguity added to it) is fine by me. If this is executed by a revolution, even better. The more brutal it is, the better. There's no limit to the level of brutality. Also don't suggest super popular movies because then it's just a pile of movies everyone knows
I love most of Haneke’s other films along with Catherine Breillat and David Lynch. Another of my favorites is Breaking The Waves. Also already pretty familiar with Gaspar Noe.
I watch a lot of foreign movies, particularly from Chile, Argentina, France, Spain. Some I've liked include The Aura, The Story in Their Eyes, Amelie, all Almodovar's films. I feel like I don't know what is new out there since where I live now doesn't have good theatres.
I should have said, no horror.
I'm looking for movies that are inspired by, chronicle, or document the glam rock and punk rock era of the 70's. I am looking for all kinds of suggestions, from Velvet Goldmine to kitschy movies like Breakfast on Pluto or gritty like Trainspotting. Especially if you know of a must see doc. I'm just really needing some raw, counter culture inspo.
I watch a lot of movies. Needing some good recs to refil my list.
I like most genres, some more than others though i find it hard to enjoy anything pre 1970, anything too art house or war epics with unrealistic action or bad effects. though I am open.
Doesn't have to be english language.
Some of my favs would be:
the Handmaiden
Buffalo soldiers
the forgotten battle
wind river
jojo rabbit
bringing out the dead
the black phone
midsummer
triangle of sadness
spider man - across the universe
EE all at once
and Some that i didn't like after strong recommendations
Past lives
trap
Zone of interest
the kitchen
Men
Thanks
I've seen basically all the classics and most of the movies reddit recommends. I haven't been in to films much they past couple years though. Some of my favorite movies ever are Dogville, Mulholland Dr, Gone Girl. My favorite thing put to screen is the TV show The Leftovers. Also loved Twin Peaks, especially The Return. Not in to gore or monster horror. I can dig psychological horror at times though. Killing of a Sacred Deer is one of my fav films ever (I adore every Yorgos film).
Also a fan of good "character study" movies. No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood are both brilliant.
For those with similar tastes, what has been good lately? For anyone that cares to go this far, here is my IMDB list of movies/shows I have rated. Thanks!
Since watching Arcane S2 I've found myself more strongly inclined to watch movies and shows that depict beings beyond human comprehension, and ideas of ascension. I just watched 2001, I was wondering if anyone knew of films that follow along with these thematics?
I want some absolutely terrifying movies on hulu, tubi, or Amazon prime that I don't have to pay for. It's not really to scare me but to scare the ol lady if you know what I mean. So the worse the better. I showed her wish master today and she bout shit a gold brick lol.
Specifically romcoms. Especially early 2000s romcoms. I just really want a cute movie from that era that gives off the vibe of that song. It doesn’t HAVE to be teenagers either, but I do want a romance involved, not just a comedy movie. The only movie I really can think of that fits the bill at all is Just Friends with Ryan Reynolds, but I’ve seen that a hundred times lol
Hi everyone. I'm working on a script in which the main character is undergoing a medical procedure and is having a dream while doing so. I want the scene to jump from the "dream world" to the real world. Do you have any references I can use for these types of scenes?
To be extra specific, I'm looking for specific scenes (not entire episodes) where a character is unconscious/incapacitated (in a chair, bed, medical table, etc.) while experiencing a vision/dream/memory, and the scene switches between:
The most basic example that comes to mind is The Matrix: Neo fighting Agent Smith.
Thanks!
I somehow never knew about this movie until i stumbled upon it the other night, loved every second and looking for suggestions on similar movies or shows.
Obviously the show Silo has alot of similar elements (and is actually one of my favorite shows ever) - but looking for even more suggestions.
I'm mostly into horror, comedy, and thrillers. I have seen a lot of movies so this may be tough. Any suggestion is appreciated. And go!
Lords of Dogtown is a 2005 American biographical drama film that captures the rise of skateboarding culture in the 1970s Santa Monica and Venice, California. Written by Stacy Peralta, a key figure in the skateboarding community, the film chronicles the lives of the Z-Boys, a group of young skateboarders who revolutionized the sport with their aggressive style and innovative tricks. HEATH LEDGER IS GREAT IN THIS... and Candy...
