Getting into foreign films. Watched a bunch of Kurosawa as a kid but just finished all 3 Antonioni alienation trilogy films (L'Aventura, La Notte, and L'Eclisse). Maybe some more depressing Italian movies or other foreign ones too !
I want a movie where the main character is depressed or mentally ill, but it “gets better” at the end of the movie. Something similar to Good Will Hunting, Manchester by the Sea, or Girl Interrupted. Any suggestions?
So far the hits have been The Doors, Daydream Believers, The Dirt, Rocketman, Bohemian Rhapsody, and Elvis. What else can I watch along these lines?
Idk what genre these would be classified as but yeah. I’m also hoping any suggested movies can be found on Amazon Prime, Netflix, or YouTube Premium. I will also take suggestions for romance movies as well (NOT ROMCOMS) maybe something like The Notebook?
Please suggest me some war movies about WW1 WW2, movies like 1917, Europa Europa, The Pianist, Zone of Interest. Movies should be engaging. Thanks!
Does anyone have suggestions for movies that involve themes of loneliness and love?
So far I’ve seen (at the top of my head)
In the mood for love
Lost in translation
bones and all

I'm looking for more movies that feel slightly melancholy and introverted, like in American Fiction, with elements of characters staring out into the world, realistic about life's painful moments, having deep talk with other characters, walking through tragedy, could potentially have aspects of dark humor or cynicism.
Another movie that comes to mind that would fit this would be American Beauty.
Can anyone recommend a horror / suspense type movie where the woman doesn't let the man do whatever he wants? Feminine rage type movies? I'm so sick so seeing the same ole troupes.
So, tomorrow nights, I’m hosting a sleepover. For a movie, I was thinking Lisa Frankenstein. I think they’d enjoy it. However, if we decide we want to watch something else, what would be a good companion movie for it? I few ideas I have:
I was just watching Gladiator for the umpteenth thousandth time and I seem to hate Joaquin Phoenix’s character so much. That line he says about his son and daughter later in the movie is about as bad as it gets. I want to pound his *stupid face into a jelly he irks me so bad. Who are some villains you want to bash their heads in with a pool ball in a sock? You forget that movie is decades old too…
Blasted through the game last night, genuinely loved the atmosphere with it being mostly confined to the one location and being slightly dark and gritty. Does anyone think they could suggest something along those vibes? Not participle phased if it includes zombies or not I'm more looking with kinda singular location type stuff with emphasis on creepy and tense atmosphere :] cheers!
For me and my SO lol. We've watched too many movies with dubious affairs and teases of exes, SO wants something nice and happy haha
Movies such as
Finding Forrester,
Gross Anatomy,
Dead Poet's Society
A Beautiful Mind
Can also be about a lecturer/teacher's perspective.
Thanks everyone.
I'm just getting into the scifi movies. these are some that I've watched so far that I liked
Edge of tomorrow Dune Elysium Chronicles of Riddick District 9 Oblivion Prometheus The creator
Looking for movies with a nighttime setting. Can be any genre. I like the cozy setting of nighttime. But, off the top of my head right now, I can only really think of 30 Days of Night...not so cozy, ha
Thanks :)
weird question, but looking for some inspo shots for a short Im makin, anyone have any examples of movies (preferably ones with sweeping wides of the midwest) that display really vast fields and plains, and have similar wide angle shots?
Thank you so so dearly if you can help me
I recently discovered the instrumental version of the song "We're gonna be drinking" (originally "Was Wollen Wir Trinken"), and I was absolutely captivated by its melody and the emotions it evoked.
I'm on the lookout for good movies, preferably recent ones, released from the 1990s onwards that feature soundtracks with a similar feel or style to this song.
Music name: We're gonna be drinking (Instrumental)
What should I watch to commemorate this fateful day?
Send me your suggestions for ancient Roman historical dramas, twisted political plots, and duplicitous backstabbers.
It’s as the title says. I’m looking for some good horror movies that take place primarily, if not only, at a haunted or cursed school. Cause of haunting can be anything, and I don’t mind if it’s an obscure or less-known movie. My only requirements are 1) it’s good and 2) it takes place in a school where supernatural / paranormal events are taking place. Thanks in advance!
My best friend is going through a really hard time right now and I'm finally able to visit him. I wanted to find something that we can watch together that offers a positive message or outlook on life when things are tough. Something that will make you cry with tears of joy is a plus
I’m feeling down in the dirt and have little to no motivation to do anything in life today, I’d love to watch a movie that makes you think about the joys of life, something feel good/easy to watch. Something that makes you forget about your sadness for 90mins or so. Please and thank you 🙏🏼
Less blood and gore preferred and more terrifying thought provoking moments! Anything super scary you’ve seen that has stuck with you — open to all sorts of genres. ✨🙏💕
Saw The Boy and the Heron yesterday and watching Once Upon a Time in Hollywood now.
Seen everything by Akira Kurosawa, Stanley Kubrick, David Lean, Alfred Hitchcock, Ingmar Bergman and Ridley Scott. Love films made by these types of directors. I’ve seen Apocalypto, Master and Commander, Lord of the Rings, Pirates of the Carawhatever., etc.
If you could suggest anything rare and satisfying in this genre I’d much appreciate it.
We’re looking for something to watch that’s scary but also doesn’t have sex scenes or gore.
I thought Insidious was great, The Witch, The Exorcist, etc.
I need movies like e.g Before series or Before We Go, u know these kind of movies where there's a lot of walking and lots of dialogues too.
Suggest a movie about young people feeling lost in the world
I'm thinking about Edge of Seventeen, Beautiful Boy, Frances Ha, Lady Bird, The Worst Person in The World, Cha Cha Real Smooth, etc...
Basically main characters who's trying their best to live in this world while having no idea what they're doing. Doesn't matter the genre, year, language or anything. Thanks!
LVOTD wasn't exactly a perfect movie but now I really want to watch some other films that A). Feature some sort of monster and B). Ideally take place around the turn of the 19th century. Open to any suggestion however, even if they don't match that criteria exactly!
Looking for a raunchy horror movie to watch. Something along the lines of "the babysitter" or hostel 1 & 2. This girl I'm seeing loves watching these types of movies when we hang out. Need a good pick! Thanks in advance
On the Silver Globe is another great example of what I'm looking for.
Only the most bizarre, surreal, niche arthouse epics, pur-lease!
Or maybe films that ain't niche in the country they were made, but aren't widely known in the west.
I'm looking for insane matte paintings, nonsensical plots with cross men with swords probably serving as some social commentary, THE MORE OBSCURE THE BETTER.
To the best response, I grant my first-born child. You're welcome to the damn thing, Rumpelstiltskin.
Movies where the main character knows/sees that theyre gonna turn bad in the future and they try eveything to stop it but in the end their fate remains. Or anything similar to this idea
