The film releases on September 27, and the story is seemingly the end of the road for the teenage hitmen duo...

The Werewolf Game (japanese movie s series)

The Werewolf Game Movie Series Would like to recommend this incredibly fun movie series, especially for those who like to play "Werewolf"!

There's 8 movies (each movie feature different roles based on a trapped room life-and-death where students are pitted against one another in a Werewolf deathmatch.

Each movie evolves and adds more complex roles, I especially loved the fifth one (Lovers)

The Werewolf Game: The Villagers Side | Jinroh Gemu (2013) [10 Players, 2 Wolf & 8 Normal Villagers]

The Werewolf Game: The Beast Side | Jinroh Gemu Bisutosido (2014) [10 Players, 2 Wolf, 1 Seer, 1 Bodyguard, 2 Joint-Owners and 4 Villagers]

The Werewolf Game: Crazy Fox | Jinro Gemu Crazy Fox (2015) [12 Players, 3 Wolf, 1 Seer, 1 Medium, 1 Bodyguard, 5 Villagers, 1 Fox]

The Werewolf Game: Prison Break | Jinro Game Prison Break (2016) [12 Players, 3 Wolf, 1 Seer, 1 Medium, 1 Bodyguard, 2 Joint-Owners, 3 Villagers, 1 Madman]

The Werewolf Game: Lovers | Jinroh Gemu Ravazu (2017) [11 Players, 2 Wolf, 1 Seer, 1 Medium, 1 Bodyguard, 5 Villagers, 1 Cupid]

The Werewolf Game: Mad Land | Jinroh Gemu Maddo Rando (2017)

The Werewolf Game: Inferno | Jinro Gemu Inferuno (2018)

The Werewolf Game: Death Game's Operator | The Werewolf Game: Death Game no Uneinin (2020)

Does anybody know any update if there going to make more of these movies? Cuz i love this movie series you can watch them online to the site i use is kissasain i use an ad blocker because of the ads but it shows lots of asian dramas.

Green Requiem (1988) - Pretty much forgotten inside Japan and unheard of outside of Japan, this is a live action adaptation of Motoko Arai's sci-fi fantasy novel about a psychic alien plant girl! Great SFX! Now with subtitles!

Looking for a movie I can't find anywhere!

I believe this movie was on netflix around 2021, it was a thriller/horror movie in japanese about a school girl that k*lled herself due to sexual abuse she received in a school bathroom (i think), she then haunted the school and killed/scared some students which launched an investigation by a detective. the movie followed the detective along as she uncovered what happened and eventually was able to bring peace to the girl and let her move on. I remember a final scene on a roof and barely some other stuff.. memory is hazy on it but please let me know if this rings a bell! It was an engaging movie id love to revisit!

Looking for where to find 大鹿村騒動記 (titled "Someday " in English) 2011

I've been trying to find this movie for a while but, due to the naming in English being really basic, I've struggled to find it. So I thought I'd come to this subreddit again for help. I'd love to be able to watch this movie as it was the last film Yoshio Harada was in, so any help is appreciated. Thank you.

EDIT: I've been able to get my hands on a video with it, but it doesn't have english subtitles (It has chinese subs??) . If anyone knows where I can find subtitles for it I'd be grateful.

Japanese movie with serial killer?

I watched a japanese movie once about a japanese serial killer on the loose with a description that he was a young man. The story shows three different characters that the veiwer sees as suspects in different cities. One was gay, one was a businessman (i think?) and the third was working as a fisher and was really shy and weird. Does anyone know what movie it is?

Japanese movie where girl gets locked in gym storage room?

I remember only a scene of this movie where the FL gets locked in a gym storage room by a group of bullies. She ends up using the bathroom accidentally because of how long she was locked in the storage room. Once she is let out she throws the towel that she cleaned up the mess with at the bullies and walks off. I think that there was a boy stuck in the storage room with or had came to rescue her?? not entirely sure. I don't remember much else from this movie but it's been on my mind and it's bugging me at this point lol. I'll appreciate the help :)

Your name (the movie)

This is the most heart wrenching movie ever. And the graphics are out of this world... Every tiny droplet of water drawn to the utmost perfection. I love the way anime romanticises this world, makes it look so pretty and vibrant and surreal. I love the ancient folktales and the rich and vibrant Japanese culture. I love this movie, every single scene from start to finish is utter perfection, the movie took me on the most exquisite emotional journey I've had in a while.

Looking for a specific Japanese director

So long story short, I saw a reel on my Instagram that described a Japanese indie film director whose style really stuck out to me. I THOUGHT I had saved the link to the reel so that I could come back to it later, but it's missing from where I usually save these things.

I don't recall the director's name anymore (as tends to happen with names I see only once), but I remember some bits of information about him that were described in the video. Those being:

  • "He used to be in a noise band, and it shows."
  • His movies have incredibly unique and distinct visuals even by the standards of most Japanese films.
  • Most of his films are shot guerilla style, with all crowd reactions in public being 100% real.
  • In one of his movies, he used a camera and a wheelchair to film steady shots because he didn't have a steady cam to do it with.

What is this person's name, and what are some of the more notable movies he's done? I'm really interested in finding something of his to watch.

Love Exposure

Has anyone seen the film Love Exposure? It sounds interesting and I hear it's really good but it's four hours and I'd have to set aside a whole day to make the time to watch it.

Who’s your favorite director and why?

Shinya Tsukamoto is my favorite with Koji Shiraishi being a close second. I love the intensity and feel of Shinya Tsukamoto’s movies and am generally impressed by his ability to act consistently well in his own works as that can be pretty hit or miss for directors that like to appear in their own films.

I remember being wowed by Tetsuo years ago watching it with my dad and then when my family were visiting me we watched Kotoko together without me realizing it was by the same director at first and we were blown away by his work again.

As for Koji Shiraishi I just feel like found footage is an extremely hit or miss genre and his movies are some of the best. Noroi was immersive and felt a bit like those weird paranormal/supernatural docs you’d see on broadcast tv late at night in the 00s if you woke up and flipped on the tv and it made it easier to suspend disbelief and get sucked into the story for me. Easily my favorite movie in the FF genre.

Who’s your favorite director and what makes their works your favorite?

Suggestions of romance/drama JP movies about married couples and marriage meaning in itself?

Hi everyone!

I am searching for Japanese movies involving a married couple, or the theme of what marriage means. Preferably not comedy, but more like drama and/or romance. Examples that I watched and loved:

  • « My SO has got depression »

(A cute movie about a wife doing her best to be there for her husband who deals with depresssion)

  • « 1778 stories of me and my wife »

(A very sad but beautiful movie about a man writing every day a short funny novel for his wife who is slowly dying)

  • « Shitteru Waifu »

(A man goes back in time and is happy that he escaped his wife, who he thought was unbearable, only to understand little by little how precious she was to him.)

  • « When I get home, my wife pretends to be dead »

(I liked this one less, but same message about appreciating your SO.)

I searched and searched on Mydramalist for more similar movies, I remember finding one that looked awesome about an elderly couple, but then the window closed and I was unable to find it again, no matter how much I searched.

Does anyone have a recomendation? Since on MDL a lot of movies with married couples are not classified in « married life » (for example, « my SO has depression » was not), I’m hoping to maybe get some suggestions here.

Thank you so much in advance!

Looking for the name of a movie

I'm looking for the name of a Japanese movie I saw parts of in passing on a Japanese television station, most likely NHK, a few years ago. It's definitely not a movie that's come out within the past 5 years, probably more, and I doubt that when I saw it the movie was new.

I don't remember much about the movie other than it ending with a scene where a man and woman drive into the countryside, stop by the side of a road tie their hands together, and then shoot themselves in the head while kneeling back to back.

If any of you know anything about this movie, especially the name, please share it.

Marked as spoiler because the only thing I somewhat vividly remember from the movie is the ending scene or one of the ending scenes, it might not have been the very last scene.

Help with movie title

I watched a great Japanese sort of horror/mystery/drama movie a few years ago during lock down. It was such trip. I just cannot remember what it was called. It was split into stories. One of a marriage where the wife was seen as a doll. And another with a giant teddy bear.

I love Japanese family dramas

Last night I saw Shinji Somai's Moving and thought it was absolutely wonderful. Extremely powerful imagery, and a deeply moving performance from the child lead in Tomoko Tabata. I'm realizing that I have a special love for the Japanese tradition of slow, patient films about families, from Ozu onwards. Does anyone have any recommendations of peak Japanese films similar to Moving?
