I’m thrilled (and a little nervous) to share that I’ll be shooting my first short film soon! The budget is secured, and I’m building a great team to bring this passion project to life.
As a first-time director, I want to be as prepared as possible and would love to hear your advice, experiences, or cautionary tales.
1)What’s something you wish you’d known on your first shoot?
2)Tips for managing the team, staying on schedule, or handling unexpected challenges?
3)Common mistakes new directors make—and how to avoid them?
4)How do you prep to stay ahead of schedule (or recover if you fall behind)?
5)Any must-have items on set beyond the basics?
6)What are common pre-production mistakes that lead to stress on set, and how do I avoid them?
Please respond to what you can. Thanks in advance. I appreciate you!

Hi everyone, me and a couple friends made this short film yesterday! Would love if you could check it out and give us some critiques. It’s about 7 minutes long so we won’t take too much of your time. Thanks!!!! :00
I'm looking for good short films that are thriller/drama/sci-fi genre. 1-2 people, 1-2 locations.
I'm writing a script currently and am finding it difficult to build tension and drama and need some inspiration
I plan on making short films and I don’t currently have a video camera so I was wondering what was the best video camera for it
I also don’t want something too expensive either
I recently saw this 4-minute short by aspiring filmmaker Fritz Frauendorf, about a man battling social anxiety, amidst a party environment. What follows, is Shane (our protagonist) literally having an out of body experience, struggling to find a way to escape from reality.
As someone who often struggles with social anxiety, too, I found myself really connecting with this film. I think the idea of capturing this man’s anxiety by literally showing him detaching from his own body, and them observing what an ideal, social version of him could be like, was an impactful, unique choice, and the VFX showing him as he disassociates were very well done (reminiscent of Blade Runner 2049).
