[IIL] Anthems For A Seventeen Year-Old Girl [WEWIL]?

I'm mostly talking about one part of this song. "Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me." I really like this part, but I can't find any songs like it. If you do have song recommendations like it, thank you.

[IIL] U2 (90s), Radiohead, Spitz (Japanese band), Jeff Buckley, Muse (Showbiz, OoS, 2nd Law), and Oasis (pre-1999) [WEWIL]

My favorite guitarists include J Mascis, Frusciante, Johnny Marr, and Neil Young. As you can see, I’m into that open chordy, country twangy, style (and sometimes also utilizing alternate tunings).

IIL Music w/ fast arpeggios (e.g. No Pity for a Coward)

I'm obsessed with the guitar part of the song "No Pity for a Coward" by Suicide Silence, at 2:39 until the end. It's fast arpeggios and I'm looking for more stuff like it, honestly in any genre of music, but prioritizing Rock/Metal.

Other examples in other styles:

  • As Time Flies (Ty's Music)
  • Jump, You Can Fly (whoisazar!) at 0:53
  • The Four Seasons, Concerto no.4 "Winter": I. (Vivaldi; Janine Jensen)
  • Dance of the Knights (Prokofiev)

[IIL] Experimental classical/process music using unconventional instruments like Pendulum Music by Steve Reich, [WEWIL]?

I love Steve Reich but I've mostly only heard his work with more traditional instruments, like Six Pianos, Music for 18 Musicians, Octet, etc. I recently heard Pendulum Music and loved it. Is there more stuff like this out there? I also really love I Am Sitting in a Room by Alvin Lucier which similarly makes use of recording equipment, and Kurzwellen by Karlheinz Stockhausen, which uses radios.

IIL artists like Nirvana (and more), what other artists may I like?

So I don’t know what to listen to recently, since I’ve gone through many different genres lately. I listen to Nirvana, Pierce the Veil, Muse, Paramore… And I’m also into something more relaxed like Dominic Fike, girl in red, beabadoobee, The Neighbourhood, Zeph… Please feel free to recommend me anything (you can also surprise me with something very different). I’ll let you know my thoughts :) Thanks!!

IIL the film “The Worst Person in the World” WEWIL?

This film was so evocative to me. The scenery/the city felt so ambient, and cosy. It was quizzical and whimsical, pensive and human. It stirred up a lot of stuff for me.

What other films are like this? (I’ve seen all of the Before Sunrise Trilogy)

IIL 70’s/80’s AOR that incorporates Fusion, like Pages’ Future Street and Gino Vanelli’s Brother to Brother, WEWIL?

I’m Obsessed with the 70’s/80’s west coast sound, but there’s a more specific sector that includes perfectly produced albums, excellent arrangement and exceptionally skilled musicians, so that it leans into Jazz Fusion and prog territory. Anyone have recs for similar stuff? Willing to give anything a go.

[IIL] Modern tracks(not classical) that evoke an Ancient Roman vibe

The title, conceptually or otherwise. Genre doesn't matter, it can be anything from neofolk(there are some Boyd Rice/DI6 collabs w that type of thing, Scorpion Wind etc) to world music(Dead Can Dance etc) or any other genre, vibe/feel is important. Not heroic or march-like, rather chill ones are preferred

IIL small-town paranormal tv/movie soundtrack type songs…

currently writing a book and thought it'd be fun to make a playlist of songs that I could envision being in the soundtrack of its tv/movie adaptation. this will never happen, of course, but for whatever reason, picturing it helps me to write a lot :D if you have any recommendations you think would fit the vibe (or something that totally contrasts the songs in the playlist but fits your perceived vibe of the book) I'd appreciate them! the playlist is a bit out of my general music taste, which is why I'm lacking the expertise here. 20th century music diehards, i'm counting on you. i've been meaning to expand my own tastes too because this playlist has been so much fun, so any general recommendations are welcome too!

the general vibe of the book is definitely small-town paranormal. if you've seen stranger things, that would be a good possible visual (or soundtrack!) to draw from. the story spans from the 1980s to present day, but predominantly takes place from 2010-2014. it follows a kid trying to unravel the secrets of his small town in the pnw revolving around mysterious discoveries about shapeshifting monsters that roam the town, the mayor, and grappling with his own fragmented sense of self. there's a big symbolic tie between his self-image and the idea of the shapeshifters, and there's lots of themes of self destruction, loss of found family, unrequited love (and 'the one that got away'), and the underdog finally winning, for some ideas to inspire your choices. I've been TRYING to only use songs released prior to 2010 (preferably prior to 2000), but i've made some exceptions already, so i don't mind if the songs are out of the release bounds :)

Heres what's currently in the playlist:

somebody to love - jefferson airplane (1966)

southern nights - glen campbell (1976)

nocturnal me - echo and the bunnymen (1984)

hotel california - eagles (1976)

smalltown boy - bronski beat (1984)

i'm a woman, i'm a man - friend & lover (1967)

sleepwalker's timeless bridge - amon duul II (1971)

mr make believe - samuel prody (2016)

hearing damage - thom yorke (2009)

it will come back - hozier (2014)

wish - blood orange (2022)

jesus freak lighter - blood orange (2022)

something good - alt-j (2012)

anyone's ghost - the national (2010)

knives out - radiohead (2001)

you and whose army? - radiohead (2001)

street spirit (fade out) - radiohead (1995)

spectre - radiohead (2016)

bodysnatchers - radiohead (2007)

town without pity - gene pitney (1971)

heroin - the velvet underground (1967)

ashes to ashes - david bowie (1979)

how soon is now? - the smiths (1983)

people are strange - the doors (1967)

seabird - alessi brothers (1976)

Iil Miles Davis' Fusion Albums/Strange Eclectic Avant-garde Jazz in general?

While I've always really enjoyed Jazz and played in band as a kid, I've always been a Rock guy first and foremost, especially avant-garde/just plain weird rock music. It should be no surprise, then, that of all the Jazz giants, Miles is my clear favourite (although I guess that's fairly common for people not versed in Jazz to be into him lol). Kind of Blue was my introduction, but I've since found myself drawn more and more to his expansive, genre defying works in recent memory, from the sprawling psych rock jams of the trilogy (Bitches Brew, Pangaea, Agharta), and the out of this world funk of On The Corner, I almost never feel this affirmed as a music lover. My absolute favourite, however, has to be Get Up With It; as a huge Can fan, the Krautrock and Ambient/Progressive Electronic Flourishes paired with the Avant-garde Jazz sound create an unforgettable, utterly sublime listening experience from the first few seconds of He Loved Him Madly On. I read someone refer to it as "Post-Jazz", and I think that's 100% a perfect descriptor.

Anyway, if it helps anyone, I'm also big on Mingus/what I've heard of Thirdstream in general from the likes of Moon Dog, both Coltranes, John Zorn, Nujabes, Headhunters, J Dilla, ATCQ, The Roots, Larks' Tongues In Aspic, Buhloone Mindstate, Creature by Ask My Bull, The Inner Mounting Flame and Steely Dan (moreso a Rock/Pop band with heavy jazz influence, but I digress), but like I said, I listen to a wide variety of music, so any jazz with a degree of eclecticism will hold my attention. Thanks

IIL New to club/dance music, any recs?

I’ll give some context on what I’ve heard that lead me to ask this question. I’m a big fan of the 1975, and my favorite album of theirs is Notes (controversial, I know); I really love the UK garage/club scene inspired tracks on it. I also loved the new Charli XCX album, the first album of hers I listened to after some friends recommended it (and I’ll listen to anything George Daniel works on lol). Any similar recs to get me started would be appreciated! Thx y’all !!

iil The Riddle by Terry Mann what is something similar?

I am currently writing a murder mystery type story and The Riddle is perfect for it. I’d like more songs like that about betrayal and mystery to add to a playlist for it. I’d prefer clean music but I am okay with a few cuss words. Thanks in advance!

[IIL] Creature Comforts (Aardman) style common man interviews

While I do really love the concept and animation of Creature Comforts, what really appeals to me is just listening to everyday people talking about simple subjects, it's really calming to me. I've tried to find other kinds of interviews, but I usually only find mean spirited man on the street interviews, or responses to political stuff.

I know it's a bit of a stretch considering how mundane it is but I wouldn't mind some kind of show/podcast that's like Creature Comforts but without the animal part.
