Blackout

Is this game blacked out for anyone out of market on espn+? It’s saying it’s not available for my package or region, but neither of those should be true. As usual CS is not being helpful

Intermission Show

I will sound like a broken record, but man I really miss Brodie.

I have nothing bad to say about Alan Hoshida and I’m sure a day will come when we love him too, but I just felt so sad hearing the intermission show intro music just to not have Brodie appear on my tv.

Just doesn’t make sense man…

Cheers to Brodie, wherever you are 🍻

Former Shark Matt Irwin announced his retirement

“As I reflect on my career, I can’t help but feel incredibly grateful and fortunate to have lived out my childhood dream of playing in the NHL. My success would not have been possible without the support of my family, my in-laws and especially my wife, Chantel, and two kids Beckem and Lennon. You all pushed me to be the best version of myself on and off the ice.

I would like to thank my agent, Ian Pulver, for his guidance and unwavering support throughout my career.

I would like to thank all of the organizations that took a chance on me and allowed me to wear their jersey and represent their team and city.

I want to thank all of the coaches and staff on each team that helped me reach my potential and become the player I was on the ice.

I’m fortunate to have been surrounded by the best group of teammates that I could have possibly asked for. Each and every one of them made coming to the rink the best years of my life. I hope our paths cross somewhere down the road.

There are so many people I would like to thank and it’s really hard to express my gratitude the way that you all deserve, but please know that everyone that I crossed paths with during my career means the world to me and my family, and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart.”

Updates on Musty?

It seems his numbers are down since he returned to his team. Any close followers of Junior Hockey have any reports on how he is doing?

Askarov with a 48 save performance

Holy smokes the kid is good but my god is he going to give Sharks fans some heart attacks in the future the way he comes out of the net. The athleticism is unreal!

Side note: Bordeleau with both goals tonight for the Cuda. He looked good

Cheap merch anyone?

New sharks fan here. I've been trying to get more into watching the Sharks but can't afford the extremely expensive jerseys. Does anyone know of a retailer who sells good quality, used if necessary, cheap jerseys ($50-60 tops)? Would greatly appreciate it!

Is Pavelski next?

With Joe Thornton’s Jersey retirement night coming up it had me thinking about who’s the next person that has a chance of having their number retired. There is only 1 other person that I feel deserves to have their number retired besides Patrick Marleau and Joe Thornton and that is Joe Pavelski. There isn’t a current shark or past shark besides those 3 that I believe should get their number retired.

What do you think? Is there a player from the past that you believe should have their number retired? Do you see Logan couture or Marc edouard vlasic having their number retired?

Transplant trying to catch a game

Hello. I'm new to the Bay. Trying to catch the Sharks Kings game next Monday. I know the CalTrain is a pretty robust system. I'm curious how crowded/difficult is it to catch the last CalTrain post-game? Do I need to leave early to ensure I get a spot on it?

Thanks!

Schedule for Next Week's Thornton Ceremony

I remember the Marleau event was around 5:30pm, and the start time against the Blackhawks was 7pm. I'm wondering if that means the Thornton ceremony will be around 3:30pm. Any thoughts or insider information that has been floated around?

Will Smith - Development Takes Time!

Since the season started there’s been some discourse about Will and his start, it seems to have died down a bit after his 2 goal night. BUT, I do want to add my take to this anyways.

I for one am not really worried about his start. He’s 19, played less than 15 games so far, and let’s be honest - his teammates are not skilled and won’t look to make plays the same way he does. I’m willing to bet him and Celebrini get frustrated when they’re wide open in the neutral zone and Luke Kunin decides to dump and chase.

Development is not linear. It takes time and there’s a variety of factors. Here’s some players Smith was drafted near that are also having slow starts:

  • Shane Wright - 2 points in 15 games so far
  • Cutter Gauthier - 0 goals in 14 games
  • Marco Kasper - 1 point in 10 games

I don’t think anyone considers these 3 “busts.” Sure their fans might feel panicky too, but I don’t think the organizations they belong to are worried at all.

Now, here’s some other high profile picks who had slow rookie seasons OR multiple seasons and have turned out to be pretty good:

  • Jack Hughes - 21 points in 61 games
  • Juraj Slafkovsky - 10 points in 39 games
  • Alexis Lafreniere - 21 points in 56 games
  • Nathan Mackinnon - 56 point per season average his first four seasons
  • Quinton Byfield - 10 points in 40 games
  • Tyler Seguin - 22 points in 77 games
  • Dylan Strome - 16 points in 48 games over 3 seasons and took 4 years to become a regular NHLer
  • Leon Draisaitl - 9 points in 37 games
  • Kent Johnson - had to spend time in the AHL last year
  • Elias Lindholm - didn’t have a 40 point season until his 4th NHL season
  • Nino Niederreiter - 2 goals in his first 64 games
  • Dylan Cosens - 13 points in 41 games
  • Casey Mittelstadt - 25 points in 77 games
  • Timo Meier - 6 points in 34 games

No I’m not saying he is going to be Draisaitl or Mackinnon. Just saying there are A LOT of examples of players who don’t take off right away, and end up being very very good.

TL;DR: It’s a hard league to jump into if you’re 19 - unless you’re a generational talent. Smith will be fine. Don’t panic.

Last nights game against Flyers

I live in Pa so I always catch the Sharks when they are in town. Everyone got their money’s worth and I was sure we were gonna pull out that win. I came correct as usual cheering for the boys. I’ve lived here long enough to know what I’m up against. Seeing our sharks stay in there and fight for a point and taking life out of their barn made my week.
