Based on what we are seeing, it's very likely we're drafting top 5 again. 😅
Would you trade that pick to accelerate the rebuild?
So after 12 games we are definitely worse off than a season ago. After 12 games last year Habs had a record of 5-5-2 (12 points), 36 GF, 44 GA (-8). This year Habs are 4-7-1 (9 Points), 33 GF, 50 GA (-17). So same old problem, we are not scoring enough, difference this year is horrible defense and goaltending.
I saw a post this weekend saying he was not in the game day line up, do we have news about that ? I know all of our players and prospects are cursed at the moment i kinda just wish it was either a mistake or the flu
Do we remember when Ducharme was making our team play a certain way and the players weren’t responding to it, and Petry flat said it was brutal and wanted out?
Is there something similar going on with MSL? I hope he stays long term so I’m confused why he isn’t adapting to the things that aren’t working. Why not make things simpler for a while, get some confidence back, and then slowly build up his plays again.
I remember him saying that when he came in. He wanted to simplify to get the team to stop thinking, and just have fun, now it seems to me that he’s doing that same thing…? Thoughts?
Is this a coach being rigid or players being thick? Why can’t they get what he’s doing? I want this team to win, and have been okay with the rebuild, but this year seems like a huge regression.
Newhook has looked lost on that second line, and I think there are two reasons.
First, he's not talented enough to be playing the style of hockey Dach wants to play. Dach is at his best when he's making quick decisions in tight spaces whil and using his big frame to sustain the cycle. Newhook doesn't have the hands to make those quick plays, and isn't big enough to cycle the puck like that.
Second, I think he needs to be playing centre. As someone pointed out yesterday, Newhook is a true North-South player that is most effective when he's able to loop from slot to slot, looking to attack in transition. Playing off of a more methodical guy like Dach slows him down and doesn't play to his strengths.
I like Newhook and I think he plays a winning style of hockey. But I'd really like to see him centre that third or fourth line.
Sorted by shot differential.
A few facts:
I was thinking we could draft him in the 2 round. He is also from Quebec and he could be an elite goalie in the league. I know we have Jacob Fowler but we should have another elite goalie in our prospect pool.
There are rumors Granlund could be traded by the Sharks. What do you guys think? I think he'd be a graet fit for us. Can play wing/center. Great playmaker on PP. Veteran whos been helping the young guys in San Jose. Calm under pressure
Habs LOSE 1-3 to mean penguins I don't claim them :(
Thoughts? Opinions? Did you enjoy the game?
Next Game: Tuesday, November 5, 2024 7PM EST against the Calgary Flames

“Personally, in front of the net, we blocked a lot of shots, there was not a lot of shots from the point that got to me tonight. We played a good game, in that sense, in other games the offensive occasions will come and we have to capitalize, be consistent, playing defensively will give us better chances.”

Dach Segment:
[Pengu] Dach says he felt that defense game and the responsibility aspect of it all was a bit better but they still have to play a more all around complete game to win in this league
[Pengu] "There is no quit in our group. We knew that if we got one, we're going to have a good chance of getting two. We've had good looks at it, but it just didn't go into the net. It's tough to hold your head high after games like this. Especially the kind of stretch we've been on. It's frustrating. Hopefully if we keep doing the right things, day in and day out... stuff will go our way" - Dach
[Pengu] "It's all about beating to the same drum on the same beat and having everyone on the same page." - Dach
Newhook Segment:
[Pengu] "I thought it was a decent road game. A couple of mistakes killed us there... those things happen... But it's one game. We're not going to be able to flip it one game and create something that's going to be consistent. We continue to learn and move on." - Newhook on what was missing from tonight

Reporter @ 5:45 : “Do you think something was well built tonight what do you think?”
Savard: “I believe we played a tighter game, we played better defensively, there’s some positives in there for sure. We’re disappointed to have not come out with a win tonight, [...] both clubs after during the first period didn’t generate a lot. We tried to create more in the third, but we’re just disappointed when we couldn’t get a second goal.”
Reporter @ 6:20 : “It’s a little shocking when the puck goes into the rafters, there’s pressure, you react, how did it happen?”
Savard: “Well, it’s the kind of play you more or less control, I don’t think it happens often for me, the puck was bouncing on a play that wasn’t soft, there was a good player coming in and unfortunately, I sent it to the rafters.”
Reporter @ 6:45 : “How did you find the answer of the group following the events of this week?”
Savard: “like I said, I think we played better defensively, we were tighter, we gave less chances... y’know we also need to go the other way and create chances to find the back of the net. I think overall there’s positives that we gave less provided the opponents less shots less things like that... we’re just disappointed by not getting 2 points.”
Reporter @ 7:20 : “You say create more offence (chances), what do you think is missing? At the moment, do you think there’s a bit of confidence that’s missing to create plays?”
Savard: “I think we left a lot on the table. I think we didn’t take a lot of shots in the first period, we had chances to bring the puck more often to the net. The forwards were there, I’m talking about the defense that could create more offence my bringing more pucks and maybe get less pretty goals, but counts.”
Reporter @ 7:50 : “Exactly, would you say that there was less juice/game(?) during the week, in your playbook do you think it could have been more effective?”
Savard: “I’m sure if it was in the gameplan to take good decisions, make things simpler. And, as you said, I had less turnovers which let us to go more on the forecheck and create more from there. It helped us create more shots and give less shots.”

St-Louis Segment:
[Pengu] "Of course, you would've liked to see a result tonight. I feel like the guys deserved something. We just didn't get that. But it is a hard league. But I feel like it's a really good sign and step in the right direction. Now it's just to maintain that. If you do that, I think we get going." - MSL on the group needing a result

The following is provided by u/XeroHex:
“It was an equal game, I believe. The second goal hurts a bit. I did not like how we did not get a call on something, because seemed like Suzy got slashed... and you lose a guy. When you lose a guy on the PK, usually it is a chance to score.”
“I liked our push in the third. I found our first 2 periods... defensively we were there, but we were not clean... our touches weren’t clean, the pucks were bouncing a lot. Credit to the other team, they forechecked well. I found we left chances on the table, if we were cleaner. I found that we were cleaner in the third period, our touches were good... we just couldn’t score.
Reporter @ 10:55 : “We saw the attitude of your team in the third period, when we say good attitude is that what you saw with the same feeling?”
MLS: I think from the beginning we had that and it was consistent I think during the rest of the game... we didn’t cheat to stay in the game. We played an honest game, it just sucks to not be rewarded.
Reporter @ 11:20 : “Your goalie had to bounce back, Sam, you kept him for the whole game, are you satisfied with how your #1 goalie reacted?”
MLS: “Yeah, we played a solid game in front of him, y’know not let him do any heavy lifting. I looked at the chances... I thought it was less than the other games and the quality of chances as well.”
Reporter @ 12:17 : “You said you left chances on the table, do you have the impression that sometimes there is missing clarity ideas/decision making?”
MLS: “Clarity in the ideas? No... I would say we should shoot more. Tsé, feque je pen--” Video Ends

I just really want this line back together. The constant changing of lines isn't helping anybody.
At the start of the season all three were clearly not warmed up after only playing one and a half preseason games. Since the Slaf injury they didn't get a single fair chance together.
What bad can possibly happen? This team is already playing badly and is currently clearly missing something. The last time I've seen it was at the end of last season with the first line on the ice.
If there's a right time to put them out there for a few games and see what happens, it's now.
I've also got flashbacks seeing Slaf with Anderson and Newhook. I hope this November is NOT going to look like the last one.
I thought during free agency that he would have been a great fit as a veteran presence with goal scoring capabilities to bring back to the habs. Not sure if Kent looked into it but mow seeing his stats makes me wish that they had signed him.
