Hey all, tonight my friend and I are going to the Penguins game for the Slippery Rock University promotion. Does anyone know if you have to go to a specific place in the arena to get your beanie? We have the tickets that include it.

Anyone know how likely it is that Sid and Geno will participate tomorrow? Or are practises the day after a game usually optional and they will likely skip?

Friedman recently reported Hoglander is available from VAN and the Pens are interested. He had a very good season last year and off to a poor start this year. He's still only 23 years old and his new contract kicks in next season for $3M per year for 3 years.

I don't know a ton about him, but I know he's fast and not afraid to get to be physical despite being smaller. From what I gauge, he plays loose with little focus on defense, so if that's true, how would he fare playing under Sullivan?

I truthfully have no gauge on what his value should be, but what do you guys think?

Eek! Prepare yourselves. The Cup champs are in town.
It's been an up and down year for Florida. A little over a week ago they were only 2 points ahead of the wild card cutoff line. But they've righted the ship since, racking up 3 straight wins.
Reinhart's brilliant play from last year has carried over, and he's been their team MVP to this point. Bennett's a point per game player. Barkov is outstanding as usual. Lundell is really stepping up...
Then on the back-end you got defensive god Forsling, Ekblad's been solid and even former Penguin Kulikov has become a quality player for them. Goaltending has been somewhat of a weakness this year, perhaps, but there's still so much to fear here.

The Pens are in the midst of their best stretch of the year. It's a 3-game HEATER, and I will not hear otherwise!
Improved defensive play from Karlsson and Letang is going a long way. The PP is popping off. Tomasino has injected a lot of life (and scoring). That trade is looking brilliant right now. Bunting's play has been very encouraging for a good while. And more than anything, the team's morale is up.
Do the Pens have a chance in this one? Who knows with these guys?

What sites are recommended to check out what up with the pens?

Have religiously followed pensburgh since about 07. Was seriously disappointed when TKnoodle went missing. Love Gretz’s analysis and writing. Hooks is also very knowledgeable, and has been less abrasive as the years have gone on.

I enjoy Pittsburgh hockey now. I get tired of Dan’s pandering. The insight and inseam to be very reliable.

As far as DK sports the website is just a mess, haven’t put much into it. Taylor H seems to be wasting her talents there.

As far as mark m’s coverage. I have grown weary of his,schtick. He reminds me of old Howard sterns. The anger, the your wrong and I’m right attitude worn on me. Then listening to super genius …….blah blah blah. Wore me out.

Any suggestions for insightful and serious penguin coverage would be appreciated.

I was around 9 or 10 years old when they tore down the Mellon Arena. As a kid, I was always mesmerized by the Elmo balloon that was stuck at the top of the arena. My dad and I would laugh at it every time we went to a Penguins game. They had a Sesame Street live musical at one point and I guess one of the balloons got stuck up there. Random question but does anyone else recall this?

Let me preface this by saying I'm not trying to argue the case that Poulin is the second-coming or that I believe he's capable of being a legit top-six player...

Sullivan believes players should earn their spots, so can someone please explain to me why Nieto dresses and Poulin does not? In general I haven't understood the treatment of Poulin. Sullivan seems to favor certain younger players over others from the jump. Poulin is that example.

Poulin, 23, has played a total of 12 NHL games. He's had a little rough road with injuries and personal stuff, but the fact is, whether we believe he should have been selected in the 1st round, he's a former 1st round pick and if you're going to select a player in the 1st round, you need to see what you have. Yes, I know he wasn't Dubas' pick, but that's irrelevant.

Poulin has been treated as one of those younger players where the second you take one bad penalty or have one bad shift, that's it, boom, done. Whereas other players seem to get not only more slack in that department, but they'll get continued ice time and sent out in more favorable starts.

I don't put all my stock into fancy stats, but let's look at some key stats I pulled from naturalstattrick from Poulin's time this year...

That's pretty damn impressive. Nieto's numbers are wayyyy lower in each of those categories. I know Poulin was sent down because of the roster situation, but I still call BS because there's NO reason why Nieto should automatically be getting into this lineup. If Dubas wants to see this team get younger, and you have younger cheap players getting the job done, then KEEP THEM UP and let them continue to develop to see what you have.

He's not going to lose Nieto to waivers, let's be honest.

Skating out of the box to the locker room as the period ended

While I still think this years team is going to get a high lottery pick, last night gave me hope that the rebuild could be shorter than many of us, including myself, have anticipated. Tomasino looks like he will be a very good player for the next era, Pickering looks great, and all our players in WBS look great. We also have Ilyin, Brunicke, Howe, and others yet to even get to WBS. If we use our high draft picks wisely the next 2-3 years and get our next 1C, a 1st pairing D, and a couple more steals in later rounds then I think there is a legitimate chance Sid could get one or two more playoff runs in his final years. I am definitely not for rushing the rebuild, we have seen how that has worked for other teams like NY and Detroit, but if we acquire a lot of picks at this deadline, have great scouting, and high picks the next two years (hopefully McKenna), and maybe see Dubas make 1-2 more trades similar to the Tomasino one, then I don't think this is impossible, as it feels like we are already seeing a lot of future major players start to emerge. What do you guys think?

Taking my boyfriend to PPG for the game on Tuesday!! I’ve seen the pens play in Toronto a few times but never at home, so really excited about it! We’re staying at an air bnb that’s about a 4 minute walk from the arena… I’m hoping to bring a small lululemon cross body “belt bag”… I know it says no bags at the arena, but wondering if this is fine?
