If a player does not want to go through waivers to some other team, he has 3 options:
During contract negotiations: he can take less money / go to a different team & get an NMC.
He can perform so well that no team office in their right mind would even think about putting him on waivers.
He can just not go. He can hand in his retirement from the league. Literally nobody is forcing a guy like Trouba to go to Anaheim. But somehow, getting millions in Anaheim is nicer to him than getting a job in Bronx in some 7/11. Whuda thunk?
I've read a gigantic load of whining on this subreddit on the Rangers putting players on waivers.
Where the hell was this whining when about 30 other players went through waivers this fall?
Or is it only the Rangers that are not supposed to put anyone on Waivers?
Does Trouba of Goodrow have some special rights compared to all the other players going through waivers? Literally guys on minimum deals go through them all the time, some even 4 times in a season! And this season, one dude went through twice in a short time, where the hell were the whiners then?
I am now responding straight to "arguments" people complaining about waivers have made about putting players on waivers, trying to claim Rangers management is somehow bad:
It is not "blindsiding" anyone.
It is not "using some loophole".
It is not "bad management ".
It is literally standard practice, negotiated & bargained into the CBA's by the NHLPA, and even guys like Igor Larionov or Sheldon Keefe have gone through them.
Trouba & Goodrow get A LOT more money than some random minimum-wage-guy going through them. How on earth should they specifically not ever be put on waivers?
Stop whining, wake up to reality, stop demanding special treatment for some richer guys over poorer players.
If you hate the Rangers management, come up with better arguments for your case. Whining about stuff like this only underlines the fact that the roster is just too entitled to ever win a Cup & should just be exploded.
With the news of Jones scratching, I feel so over and frustrated by this management/coaching staff. Has Jones been perfect? Far from it. But he's one of two puck-moving defensemen on this team (the other being Fox, maybe Miller but he's still out), and that's the area we're weakest in. With Miller out, this decision looks even more moronic. Scratching Jones, a young defensemen with high upside, while leaving guys like Lindgren in just makes no sense. Can someone please try to help me understand this? Why do the young guys (Kakko, Jones, etc.) get scratched or benched, when Mika gets minor minute reductions but is still stapled to the Powerplay and Lindgren remains on top pair, all but neutering Fox's skill. I just don't get it. And it's hard not to imagine Jones reiterating Kakko. Wouldn't blame the guy if he requested a trade and got top 4 D-men minutes elsewhere.
I'd be fine losing if it was because our best guys aren't as good as other teams' best guys. But day in day out, we don't seem to be putting the best guys in the lineup. Can we, for once, trust some analytics and put the best lineup on the ice and bench the guys that are clearly hurting this team? Please. Help me understand yall.
The way this entire "skid" has gone down and the resulting blame game has been an absolute sh*tshow to watch.
First, it was the treatment of Trouba in the offseason regarding the trade.
Then it was Goody and the way his trade was handled.
Of course, throughout all this has been issues with Lavi and his ability to mix/match the lines, D pairs.
Then it was (and always has been) Kakko.
Now, we've reached the point where we're talking about social media managers and a trainer being the reason this team is un-motiviated to play for this front office?
The players are really doing everything they can to not take accountability for their poor play. It's a ridiculous notion that Ramsay being let go a few seasons ago has anything to do with your turnover parties and poor defense in 2024-25. You can't disappear in the playoffs as a player for 2 years in a row and then start talking about a rift in the locker room because a social media staffer was let go.
The way this group of players is handling things is absolutely terrible. I have 10U players that take more responsibility for their own poor play.
I'm almost at the point where I am ready to sell the bulk of this team for scraps and doing a soft rebuild. If your room is so weak that these things can actually effect their play, they no longer belong in a big market (or any market) such as NY.
We get tweets from beat reporters today because the team is on the road. If we let a social media admin travel with the team, we might be able to get a video (like every other team in the league does).
“I felt like I was dead because I’d never played that much before…I had to do a lot of extra conditioning, I had to do a lot of that type of stuff.”
How much has the bigger role in Hartford helped #NYR Matt Rempe?
“It’s huge. Playing around 18 minutes a night. PK, power play, everything. Going against the other team’s top players. 6-on-5 situations, defensively…long term, it’s going to help me a lot. I think my games come along a lot in the last month.”
What’s Matt Rempe’s approach coming into #NYR’s current situation?
“I want to be myself, bring a lot of energy, bring speed, physicality — just play my game. Bring some youthful energy and try to do the best I can do. Go have fun, play hard, get under other team’s skin. Try to be a menace. Be good.”
"I got a long journey ahead of me. I’ve come a long way in a short time and I think that the best thing for me is to just keep developing and stuff like that. First years in Hartford, I don’t think I played over 12 minutes once. I don’t think I played a single second of special teams – Ever. I think that for me to go and suddenly play 18 minutes and be very effective, as well, Not just be given that, earn it as well. I can be very effective in those minutes. It’s very beneficial. I think it means my games come a long way."
#NYR head coach Peter Laviolette on why now was the time to call up Matt Rempe:
“He’s playing really well down there. Just being effective at what he’s doing. For us, I think just a change sometimes is good, as well. What we’re doing needs to change, so you try different pieces and different elements at different times. See if that brings anything to the table.”
"I’m not being nervous on the wall or in different situations," Rempe said. "I’m taking a breath and like, ‘Yeah, I can find that play. I know I can feel the pressure on my back and go this way.’ All those types of things. A lot of it is reps, but you figure things out inside a game. ‘Hey, this worked. Let me try this again. Hey, this works. Let me do this. This didn't work, now I can make this adjustment.’ And you get that when you're playing a lot."
"I think my game is easier to play and be very effective on the wing”
"It’ll be back to more of what I’m used to. You have so much energy every shift, I would say. For me, I'm such a big body, so sometimes in my first six games in Hartford, I felt like I was dead because I had never really played that much before. The way I play, I'm up and down the ice flying – moving 255 (pounds) up and down the ice. I do a lot of extra conditioning. I do a lot of that type of stuff, so now let's say you're playing eight minutes, 10 minutes, you can buzz."
Looking at the Rangers team from last year it was obvious that we needed a few things in order to be successful in the playoffs: size, speed, grit, forechecking, better 1st pass out of the Dzone/puck movers. The rub was that we supposedly didn’t have much cap to spare. So, why didn’t Drury pull the villain move and heavy hand Trouba and others(?) out at the draft and then set himself up to go hunting for UFAs that fit the bill???? Keep in mind that the returns for both Trouba and Kakko would’ve been better if they were traded in the offseason before all of the drama, and before Drury tipped his hand and guaranteed that he would be dealing from a position of weakness. I just looked at the complete list of UFA signings and this is a shortlist of those players who would’ve fit exactly what we need and cost under 2m. Many of them were for well under 2m. With just 2-3 of these signings combined with trades that could’ve happened it would be a totally different season……

Game at 8 PM ET vs Stars
realistically noone in the metro division is THAT far in front of us. Call me crazy but i believe they can redeem themselves this losing streak is bound to end at some point hopefully its sooner than later
The Kraken are already giving Kaapo a crack on their top line tonight with Beniers and McCann. Obviously Seattle and Rangers are two very different teams and situations with much bigger Rangers talent ahead in the depth chart BUT a lot of people always questioned whether we really, truly, effectively give our prospects the best chances to develop and thrive. And obviously yes he had his chances on the NYR top line over the years I know that, but the doubt remained as to whether our org can develop talent.
It's only half a game (at the time of this post) but I am happy for Kaapo and I really hope he thrives with a bigger role in Seattle.
Since there's no ranger game tonight, figured I'd watch Kakko's first game. He's on the first line too. It's also good to just watch other teams play to put things in perspective with the rangers.
EDIT: he's wearing number 84 if you're watching the game and are looking for him.
Hi
Sabres fan coming in peace. The Hockey Guy just did a video that compares the dumpster fires of the Sabres and the Rangers. Sorry guys, but the Sabres should be the the sole owners of that honor. You won the President's trophy last year, and you have actually been to the playoffs in the last 11 years. The Sabres dumpster fire has been burning like the Eternal Flame.
Somehow I think you will right your ship. Buffalo, not so much. Peace
Yeah, KK'll be alright in the league. Might see a hilite every now and then. Maybe
Kaapo Kakko skating on the first line with Matty Berniers tonight. Wishing him luck. Ron Francis was talking about how they want to turn him loose. I’m hoping he tries out that crazy slap shot and makes a highlight reel in his debut. This fish got away from us guys. Give him some love.
I started watching the rangers to escape how bad the giants are and now it’s just same shit different sport :/
Anyone know how to catch a sirens game? Might be less depressing to watch than this shit show of a season
Ole Borgs, what a guy!
I read that Dolan is meeting with Sean Avery today. WTF? He should be meeting with Duguay and/or Messier
It's just this nagging feeling I have. That they were trying to make an example of him.
