Do you actually want Laine back?

The news recently that Laine has been linked to Winnipeg trade rumors has my mind absolutely boggled.

He has not progressed to be the sniper we all hoped he would be, and his woes on the defensive side of the game have persisted.

Yea, I understand it seems like he doesn’t like Columbus and wants a new start somewhere else, but his contract is massive and his performance hasn’t been anywhere near where we would want him to be.

I don’t think it’s a good idea to bring Laine back. I think he was a great dude, with a killer dry sense of humour, but all the hype around him coming back feels nostalgia for 44 goals Patrik not current Patrik.

What do you all think? Why or why not should Laine come back?

"I have it on fairly good authority that (Patrik Laine) still holds Winnipeg in extremely high regard" - @mikemcintyrewpg discussed Patrik Laine's name being associated with #NHLJets trade rumours. 👀

Now that the Coyotes franchise folded the Jets should have their history back

The Jets have a rich history that goes further back than what is currently on record and there is now a window to reclaim it. With the Arizona Coyotes now folding and giving back its trademarks back to the NHL, it makes sense to create a movement to have the proper discussion to make this a possibility.

The NBA Hornets created a precedent to that effect and showed that it is possible.

Selanne. Hawerchuk. The original Jets logo. This Jets 1.0 era belongs to you. Anddates actually work!

1976-96 Jets 1.0 1996-99 (inactive) 1999-2011 Trashers 2011-now Jets 2.0

In the event hockey returns to Arizona (or even Atlanta for that matter) the current Coyotes record could be out « in stasis » and the league retain ownership of the Coyotes trademarks.

Jets deserve their history back. We as fans can be part of this movement and initiate the discussion by creating a petition and rally our voices.

I’d start an online petition, but I’m a born and raise Habs fan and I feel this process should belong to you and your fan base :)

Thoughts on this rebrand concept combining the heritage third jersey and a tweaked main logo?

Made this quickly because I was talking to some friends about the LA Kings rebrand next season, and when the hypothetical discussion of Winnipeg came up I just put this together on my phone quick to give a general idea of what I'd like to see from the Jets.

Where in the roster do you see young talent next year?

Specifically Stanley, Heinola, Capobianco*, Lambert, Chibrikov, and McGroarty.

It's likely one spot on the left opens up behind Morrissey and Samberg for Heinola OR Stanley and the other playing 7th D as none of the NHL ready defensive prospects (not named Salomonnson, who I haven't heard anything about playing with the Jets next year) shoot right. But with criticism for how the team doesn't play it's young stars where do the forwards go?

Maybe ship out Iafollo to make room on the 4th line for Lambert or Chibrikov- McGroarty wants to play but is behind both of those guys, but other than slotting one in (probably Lambert on 4c), do we really have a choice to play any of them bar a bunch of injuries and call ups? Especially with the clubs preference for using slightly more veteran guys like AJF, Kupari, and Gustaffson.

Let me know what you think a lineup could look like that A) improves last years roster- the team is in win now mode, and B) actually utilizes some of these guys. I'm not sure that roster exists.

I hate these, but Sabres fan looking to pick Peg fans brains on a potential trade

Ok I'd love to hear what Winnipeg fans think because recently I'd been seeing rumours from a few different credible sources that the Sabres have been linked to the Jets in some trade talks. Now granted, I'm sure every GM is linked in some way in discussions to every other GM in trade talks of some form but recently the news about McGoarty has really made me think these two teams could be very ideal trade partners but media tends to be really bad at really knowing a teams needs and values so I wanted to check in with some fans.

  1. I've heard the Jets have been looking for a top 4 D and that Ehlers is a name thrown around as a piece that could help get them that.

  2. I've heard another need for the Jets is a 2C.

  3. Sabres are a team who is very deep on the blue line and has many centre prospects in the pipeline that are currently really stuck in a logjam. With Tage/Cozens taking up 1/2C there isn't much room to bring them up without forcing them into a less-skill role at 3/4C where we are looking for tougher players who can bring a stronger forechecking presence not as much skill guys who can drive offence.

  4. Sabres are really looking for a top 6 winger, and younger players to fit our aging curve.

So we'd been linked to Ehlers for some time and it made sense to be but it wasn't until I heard that McGoarty's name being tossed around today that I really saw the potential for both teams interests to align. To add smoke the Sabres have been in LOVE with players coming from the US Development program in recent years and McGoarty is just that.

tldr:

Sabres 11th OA + a 2C prospect (Matthew Savoie/Jiri Kulich/Noah Ostlund/Isak Rosen all on the table I Imagine) + a top 4D (Henri Jokiharju/Mattias Sammuelson/Bo Byram/Ryan Johnson)

for

Ehlers + McGoarty + ?

I'm not sure if Kevyn is looking for more maybe a later rd pick at most though but hard to say where valuations are at. Even if not though I as a Sabres fan would be happy to see a trade like this. It would help us get value out of our deep pipeline at C and let us shed a defensemen since currently with Dahlin/Power/Byram/Sammy/Clifton/Joker and a few promising D prospects in our pipeline we are really clogged up at this area. While giving us a young winger who could help out as well and is in line with our aging curve.

On the flipside it would let one of our really promising young C prospects get a chance at a top 6 role they could excel in with Winnipeg, give Peg a shot at a top 4D. get value from Ehlers and maybe get a high pick out of it.

Does this sound reasonable? Am I missing something, would the Jets want more? Would the jets give more? Would the jets be interested in giving a younger player a chance at 2C, or be interested in one of our d men? Which ones?

Was splitting Mark Scheifele & Nikolaj Ehlers once Vilardi & Connor were both back healthy the worst move the Jets made all season?
