California authorities are searching for a man convicted of first-degree murder who jumped out of a prison van and escaped custody while being transported for a court appearance.
Cesar M. Hernandez, 34, escaped Monday morning shortly after arriving at the Kern County Superior Courthouse in Delano.
According to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Hernandez jumped out of a prison transport van and took off on foot around 10:45 a.m.
As of 3 p.m. Monday, he has yet to be located.
Special investigators from nearby CDCR prisons are currently searching for Hernandez, with assistance from the California Highway Patrol and the Delano and McFarland police departments.
Hernandez is described as 5 feet 5 inches, weighing about 160 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair and was last seen wearing an orange prison outfit.
He’s been in state prison since June 2019 after being convicted of first-degree murder in Los Angeles County. He was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
Anyone who sees Hernandez or has information about his whereabouts is urged to call 911 or contact incident commander Lt. Anthony Sotello at 661-721-6300 ext. 5506.
CDCR officials say 99% of all offenders who have escaped state prison custody have been successfully apprehended over the past 47 years.
I just saw a picture of downtown in the 70s with whole blocks of empty lots, where previously there were other smaller buildings. What happened?
Was there some big infrastructure project being built? I know many cities razed buildings for parking lots during this time but seeing an expanse of nothing right in the middle of downtown is kind of jarring
It’s unseemly and only goes to further indicate that LA needs to do better in those realms.
If so, how?
Also if not and if an LA official, politician or other relevant figure sees this, I'd like to say that I think LA should do more in the aforementioned arena. Everyone knows LA has high degrees of racism and xenophobia--esp in its instititions. It would be nice if you all would start tackling it with well-funded and effective programs.
Hey LA folks,
I’m on the hunt for a solid psychiatrist in the city who accepts insurance (preferably Blue Shield, but I’m open to options). It’s been tough finding someone who’s both compassionate and professional—not just handing out scripts but actually taking time to listen and work with you on a treatment plan.
If you’ve had a great experience with someone who fits the bill, I’d love to hear about it. Bonus points if they specialize in anxiety and/or depression and have availability within the next decade (seriously, wait times are wild).
Thanks in advance! Appreciate any leads
It’s something I’ve wondered for a while
I'm here for a few days with my 15 year old and I want to take her somewhere in WEHO that's vibe where she might see a celeb. We are booked at SUR tomorrow night. Hello!

There is 3 Sears left in California, including 2 in Burbank Town Center in Burbank, and the Whittwood Town Center in Whittier, 2 Sears in the Los Angeles area... Along with 1 in the San Francisco Bay Area, the Sunvalley Mall in Concord. Stockton location has closed down this August at the Weberstown Mall, sitting abandoned but the sign is still up (Sears and Roebuck department store originally opened 1964 with the rest of the mall opening in 1966)
There is still 3 Sears in all of California
Does anyone have a method of contacting TSA at LAX?
I have misplaced my New Zealand passport there, completed the form and everything but am flying out soon and need it ASAP
I’ve spoken to the consulate, they advised I would have to fly to Washington DC or Houston to for an emergency travel document to go back to New Zealand
I am currently in Orlando Florida
UPDATE: applied for an urgent passport. Gonna pray it turns up on time, otherwise I’ll be Houston
Nothing
Title says it all, my old wallet is beat up and I prefer to go to places in person when I buy stuff like this that I’ll have a long time
