Where to take my husband for his bd dinner? Love Seoul Salon and Juliana vibes

Hi, we love Seoul Salon and Juliana vibes in Ktown. Would like a suggestion on something similar or a bit more upscale. Has to take reservations.

Been to Ardor and Water Grill and loved those as well.

I love seafood, he’s ok with them. He’s Mexican. Open to anywhere from Santa Monica all the way to Downtown LA. Anyone got a good spot? Thank you!!

Jury Duty Website and Phone Issues

I’m set to report for jury duty on Monday and was told to check starting last night (Friday) about my reporting time and location. However, the website is giving a 503 error when I try to login and when I call the automated phone number and input my jury ID and PIN, it says there is a problem with their system and cannot retrieve my information.

What do I do?

Lunchbox/Bento Cakes?

Looking for somewhere/someone that does custom lunchbox/bento cakes, hoping for something under $40 to be made for early May. Closer to Long Beach area would be ideal but I’d be open to LA proper if I found the right fit. Any recommendations? :)

Where should I look for apartments if my office is in El Segundo

Hey folks!

My girlfriend is about to start her job at El Segundo, we were looking for apartments there and we couldn't really find a ton of options, what would be the best places to be in if she's looking to rent an apartment?

Los Angeles recently gave developers an incentive to limit new apartment buildings to no more than 15 units.

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-04-02/california-is-building-fewer-homes-the-state-could-get-even-more-expensive

Though it’s known as the “mansion tax,” except for rare exceptions it applies to all properties sold for more than $5 million, no matter if they are gas stations, strip malls, apartment buildings or actual mansions. Under the measure, a seller is charged 4% of the sales price for properties sold above $5 million and below $10 million.

At $10 million and above, the tax is 5.5%.

Apartment developers and real estate brokers said additional costs from ULA make it even harder to earn a reasonable profit in what can be a risky business.

That’s because when building apartments, developers often sell their finished product, which would probably trigger the ULA tax for any building over 15 units, according to Greg Harris, a real estate broker with Marcus and Millichap. Even developers who hold onto their properties typically need to take out a mortgage on the finished building — and Harris said lenders are willing to give less because they too would need to pay the tax if they foreclose and sell the property.

People thinking you’re famous

Just had the oddest experience. Was riding the metro and stepped onto the platform. A man with two kids is standing on the platform looking my direction. He suddenly looks over at me, gasps, and says “You! I’ve seen you on a TV show before!” I just kinda looked at him confused - I’ve never been in/on any media platform. I started walking to the escalator- then he said “Quickly, Tamara, make his picture!” and his daughter took a picture of me with a Kodak disposable camera. TBH felt like the world’s coolest tax accountant for a moment.

I assume this wierd mistaken identity thing happens a lot in LA- any other normies (ie not actually in media at all) experience this?

Suggestions

I posted last week about coming to L.A for 3 days as part of our honeymoon. Starting in Vegas for 4 nights, L.A for 3 nights and then onward to a 7 night Mexican cruise from Long Beach.

I took everyone's advice to move our hotel from The Garland hotel, North Hollywood on board and im happy to say I was successful in doing so. We are now staying in the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Long Beach for the duration of the L.A leg. Thanks to everyone for the heads up on that one. This makes it much easier to get to our cruise on the last day. It's pretty much across the harbour from our hotel which puts our minds at ease.

Considering our location and we'll have no car, what would people recommend we go and see for the 3 days whilst there?

I'm aware there's an ok tram service (blue line) from Long Beach headed north towards DTLA and from there we can branch out and visit other parts of your gigantic city!

Ideally, we'll explore Long Beach a bit to get our bearings initially, then we want to see some of West Hollywood and sights in that general area, Santa Monica and Venice beach of course.

3 days isn't a lot of time so understandably we'd have to be very strategic with going places to maximise our enjoyment of the city so go ahead and throw some bucket list or interesting places we should consider stopping at.

Thanks!

Help with picking a hotel

Hi all— so I want to stay on the beach, not important which one. I’m willing to pay extra for a kitchen, but from the reviews I read, it’s seems impractical to use the kitchen because the supermarket is far (???) and I won’t have a car. First, is that true?

Second is the obvs flip side: I’m willing to pay more for an ocean view and for a room or suite that I don’t mind spending inside, as I travel with work. I don’t need substantial space, and most have a business center anyway, so it doesn’t have to have a proper workspace. Just indoor comfort.

I’m not exactly a foodie (hence the kitchen preference) but kitchen or not, I don’t anticipate spending very much on meals.

I’ve been to LA several times so I’m not looking to do much— it’ll just be a short getaway to relax in peace. (I should add that I’m a very light sleeper.)

And I have 4 nights.

Advice?

Restaurant with patio for party of 80?

Hi everyone, I’m looking for a restaurant with a patio (or indoor space) that can accommodate a private party of 80 guests. Preferably on the west side but open to other areas. Thank you!

Looking for recommendations of weird electronic music artists and venues

Does anyone know of some local artists or venues around here that regularly play ambient/experimental electronic music? Think Oliver Buckland, Iglooghost, Lauren Bousfield, whatever you'd call that genre. I have a friend who really wants to go to shows with me but I normally go to punk shows which she doesn't like. As to venues, we're willing to go anywhere between Chatsworth and Long Beach, but she lives in the Hollywood area so that would be best.

Thanks all

Unable to access mailbox - right to terminate lease?

Like the title says. Received keys to the unit April 3, but was not moving in until mid-month, so I didn’t check the keys to the mailbox until this past Tuesday. They didn’t work (I was also not told which mailbox is mine, and there are 4 unlabeled, so I tried them all).

I’ve put in two maintenance requests, tried to email but it bounced back, and the realtor I had been working with (who works directly with this company often) has reached out for me as well, but so far 3 days with no response.

Does this constitute an “uninhabitable living situation”? I don’t desperately need my mail at this moment, (even though I said I did) but if this is how things go here I’d rather cut my losses and run.

Ugh.

College visits/vacation in June

I’m coming to LA in June with my twins that will gave just finished their junior year of high school. They want to check out USC, UC Irvine, potentially UCLA and Occidental. One really wants to see UC Santa Barbara but we can skip it if time doesn’t allow. Two of us will want to do Disney or Universal, while 2 of us see a concert at the Hollywood Bowl. We are driving up from San Diego. Might check out the Claremont schools en route, might not.

I’m trying to decide where to stay in the LA area. We will have access to a car but are also super comfortable calling an Uber when we split up or looking at public transit options.

We are from Oregon, so a beach location might be nice, but I also want it to make sense with where we are going each day. I know it’s super spread out. I’m guessing after college tours with the parents our teens will want to get away from Us and walk around and check Things out a bit. Oh and we are going out of SNA to come home. All that rambling… any suggestions on where to stay?
