Do pakistani companies allow IT employees to use Linux?

Also, Do they allow any employee to use Linux?

I wanted to know this because windows kinda sucks and if companies allowed their tech guys to use Linux then it would be pretty cool and useful.

Is starcity.pk legit?

I'm considering buying a Sharp Aquos Zero 5G from there, as it is the cheapest I can find online. Would it be better for me to go to a store to buy one or is it okay to buy it from them?

Iʼm re-evaluating my friendship with my so called best friend, am I overthinking it?

For context, my best friend and I have known each other well over 14 years now, and it is only now that I am re-evaluating our friendship, just how much weight and meaning it actually holds to her.

We are very well acquainted with each other's families and all that jazz.

Some time ago, I recently went through a major heartbreak that left me shattered for a good while. I had no idea what to do or feel, so naturally, I reached out to her and expressed my pain, she replied, was supportive and tried to calm me down, that went on for two days with her occasionally texting to make sure I was doing well. It's been well over a month now, and she hasn't reached out to me again, hasn't even asked me how I am doing, knowing full well that I was in a lot of pain when this happened. She made no plans to see me either, like best friends should.

It got me thinking if she really cared about me like I thought she did. Just last year, my father had a heart attack and apart from just one single message, she expressed nothing, didn't even offer to visit me in the hospital when I clearly expressed that it would bring me immense comfort.

I can't help, but think that when her family experienced a similar tragedy, not only did I go to her house immediately to console her (I didn't even have a car, but still managed), but my family also helped them the best they could, including my father.

I know friendships aren't a transaction, but this feels weird, it feels like I am the only one trying here, perhaps she is too, but not the way a best friend should.

Am I overthinking this?

For the Pakistanis who have immigrated to the U.S without the sponsorship of another person, how did you do it?

Hi, I live in the U.S. I’m was born and raised in the states, and the man I want to marry was born and raised in Pakistan and he still lives there.

We want to get married and settle here in the US permanently, however he doesn’t want me to sponsor him. (It’s his last option).

He’s just unsure on how to start the process and how to proceed with moving to the US on his own.

To provide some context:

-He’s 26 years old -He’s college educated in Pakistan -He works remotely for US companies and earns in USD -He’s never been outside of Pakistan -He has family that lives abroad in the UK

If there are any other questions related to this, please ask!

We are in desperate need of finding answers, so please if anyone has advice or has immigrated to the US themselves without the sponsorship of another person, or student visa etc.. please share information. Thank you in advance!

Pakistan's latest GDP figures if anyone is interested.

As you can see, rs. 1834 billion is equal to 1.7% of gdp which means total gdp (100%) is rs. 107882 billion. In dollars, at the current exchange of 278.39, that comes out to roughly 388 billion dollars. This figure is disgustingly low. The gdp of an actually developing nation of our size should be at least 750 billion dollars at minimum. Indonesia which has a similar population as us has a gdp of 1 trillion dollars. Brazil which has a population slightly lower than us has a gdp of almost 2 trillion dollars.

Aside from all that, I have a question for any finance majors, if we are able to strengthen out currency through more dollar influx and 1 dollar starts equalling let's say 150 PKR instead of 278 PKR, does that mean that the gdp is now 719 billion dollars? Hypothetically speaking ofcourse.

Beauty Standards in Pakistan

To what extent are beauty standards in Pakistan confined to fairness and being little chubby? Since childhood, I've observed that individuals with darker skin tones are often marginalized, while those with fair complexions and slight chubbiness are consistently prioritized across various domains of life.

What's your opinion?

Middle class life abroad or upper class life in Pakistan?

Keep in mind the following, otherwise it might be an open and close discussion:

  1. There are some issues in Pakistan that affect the rich and poor equally (war and air pollution).

  2. Western attitudes towards immigrants are changing and becoming increasingly hostile.

  3. In the ongoing economic conditions, you can't escape social pressures and conditions even if you're rich in Pakistan.

  4. There's a big chance your future generations will be completely uncultured and alienated if you move abroad.

Wanting to learn Urdu

Hey everyone, 19F from Egypt here, I speak both Arabic and English I would say fluently, but of course we learn something new everyday, I want to learn urdu because my sweet best friend is pakistani and I enjoy spending time with her and talking.

Her English is great but I believe learning her first language would enhance our conversations, and since learning Arabic from the beginning would be difficult for her, I think I am the one who should be learning urdu since it can be easier, I already know few basic phrases, but I wouldn't engage in a conversation at all; since I need to learn more.

Also her grand ma will visit in a week, and she doesn't speak any English, so I've to learn some urdu before I meet her.

Kindly dm with the intention of sharing knowledge, other than that you'll be blocked.

Labor Day.

Labor Day, internationally recognized as International Workers' Day, falls on May 1st. This day celebrates and honors the contributions and achievements of workers and the labor movement. The date commemorates the Haymarket Affair, a significant event in Chicago, USA, in 1886, where a labor demonstration for an 8-hour workday turned violent, resulting in deaths and injuries. This incident became a pivotal moment for the international labor movement.

The labor movement of the 19th and 20th centuries brought about monumental changes for workers' rights, including the establishment of the 8-hour workday and 40-hour workweek, improved working conditions, the introduction of minimum wage and overtime pay, the abolition of child labor, and the recognition of workers' rights to unionize. Additionally, milestones such as unemployment insurance, workers' compensation, and social security were introduced, along with civil rights and anti-discrimination laws, further protecting and empowering workers.

In Pakistan, the labor movement has made significant strides in advancing workers' rights and welfare. Notable achievements include the establishment of the Workers' Welfare Fund, providing financial support to workers and their families, the passage of the Maternity and Child Benefits Act, guaranteeing paid maternity leave, and the introduction of the Employees Old-Age Benefits Institution, offering pension and insurance benefits. The movement has also secured the minimum wage, the right to form and join trade unions, and the Labor Policy, aiming to protect and promote workers' rights in the country.

However, the Pakistani labor movement has faced challenges, including weak enforcement of labor laws, limited recognition of union rights, persistent gender discrimination, inadequate social security coverage, and the vulnerability of informal sector workers. Political and economic instability further compound these issues. Addressing these challenges requires continued efforts to strengthen labor laws, protect workers' rights, and tackle underlying structural issues to ensure the welfare and rights of Pakistani workers are upheld.

Labor Day serves as a reminder of the sacrifices and struggles of workers throughout history and celebrates their enduring contributions to society. It is a day to reflect on the progress made and to recommit to the ongoing pursuit of fair and just working conditions for all.

Bringing Gold to Pakistan

My cousin is travelling from USA to Pakistan (Islamabad). Do you know how much is the limit to carry gold bars/coins to Pakistan. He almost 3 troy oz = 93.4 g of gold that he intends to carry. Is there any limitation or custom charges at Islamabad Airport? If it is required to declare at customs? Thanks. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Whatever happened to pringles?

They used to be so good back in the days. I got a salt n vinegar one last night for like 350 (the mini one) and half of them were all crumpled up inside. They don't even taste the same and filled up, merely, half the box. I don't get it. Are they being locally produced?

Where are Pakistani Universities and Students Standing?

The protest and resilenace shown by students and faculty members of top universities like Horward, MIT, Columbia and many others in US is unprecedented. I wish any Pakistani university or university unions which used to fight with each other, show 1% of that protest.

I wonder how these bright and talented students most of them are not even msulims, putting their studies and careers at risk to do this?

Are Foreign Pakistani Nationals Welcome in Pakiatan?

I know Pakistan tends to be a pretty welcoming place to visitors/tourists and immigrants regardless of skin colour (always treated kindly) but are e.g. American Pakistanis or British Pakistanis etc welcome? I always feel that we are not welcome, because we look Pakistani but don't speak Urdu very well and natives have the impression we think we are better than them?

Is it looked down upon to speak English as a British Pakistani in big cities in like Karachi or Lahore or should I blend in by learning speaking Urdu best I can etc, loose the accent etc.

What? Is Nawaz Sharif really taking over?

“Nawaz Sharif didn’t hold back in expressing his disappointment with his brother’s governance, stating clearly that Shahbaz Sharif would merely hold the title of a minister without any real authority.”
