Hey everyone! 😊
My girlfriend (20) and I are planning a trip to Germany and can't decide which city to visit. We're big fans of vibrant nightlife, cozy cafés, and amazing food! 🍸☕🍽️
We’re looking for a city with:
Would love to hear your recommendations! Which city would you pick and why? 🤩
I'm an Asian student planning to pursue actuarial studies in Germany. After doing some research, I've found that there aren't many undergraduate programs specifically for actuarial science. However, I discovered that universities like Saarland and Düsseldorf offer actuarial degrees. My sister who is currently pursuing an actuarial science major, advised me to choose a university that provides access to actuarial exams, such as the IFoA exam in her case. I’m also aware that Germany has its own actuarial association. So here are my questions:
Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated, thanks a lot!
Hello Germany Redditors! I was searching the Internet for information about this but couldn’t find anything concrete - I’m a Blue Card holder living in Germany since the last five years. My spouse is also a non-EU citizen like me, but he’s been working as a highly skilled professional (Residency Visa that’s valid for two years - it’s NOT a blue card) in Spain.
Would the process of applying for family reunification visa be the same for him? Since he already works in the EU, will there be any difference in how he gets the visa?
Any and all help is welcome!
Hi! I’m going to Germany this summer with my friend and we want to experience some of the nightlife there. I am 18 so I could fill out the form to be her guardian for the night. We will be in the Berlin area, but I’m sure we can go to anywhere around the city as well. What places would allow us in if I’m her legal guardian for the night because I know they don’t accept that everywhere? Or how do I know what places accept it and which don’t? Is it easy to find out by looking it up online? Thanks!
Hello! Can anyone recommend any really simple games on the iPad from the Apple Deutschland App Store for an illiterate, elderly (78 years old) lady with Parkinson’s (and a recent stroke).
Games that have few words, very (very) simple concepts (even those Tetris like games and crosswords and word searches are too complicated), and no annoying pop-ups or ads.
Happy to pay - does not have to be a free app. Bubble or object poppers…I am in the US so I cannot see or test from the German Apple Store so thank you for any and all recommendations!!
Is Germany in direct impact from what’s happening there?
Sorry I have little knowledge about Euro / German politics.
If Canada wants join EU will ordinary people support? Its not about a geo concept but more like a next level collaboration and united with EU people
It's been almost 6 weeks i gave my Einbürgerungstest, and i haven't received any result over letter mail.
I googled and couldn't find any information if there is a way to check if my result is issued and it's probably an issue of mail on my side.
Hi! Me and my husband are going to Germany March 12th - 19th and are trying to figure out where the best wineries/wine tastings are. We will be flying into Frankfurt, visiting Heidelberg, and then making our way to Munich. Also, would love to know how to go about booking a tasting/tour. Do we book online before, just show up, ect?
Russian Catherine refference?
Backstory context:
I was looking for a KFC near Frankfurt am main, because im going to see my GF because i live in belgium. i have to travel 8 hours to her but we would meet up halfway, so i wanted to eat something when i arrive there.
I went on maps and looked for a kfc there, and somehow i found something very interesting hahaha. We both had a good laugh when we were on facetime (i was sharing my screen).
Now what i wanted to ask, was why is it shaped like that? Is there some reference from the russian catherine? Or is it just super random?
I graduated as furniture restorer and i know the russian Catherine was obsessed with d*cks, that’s why all her furniture has them on it.
If someone knows more about this please let me know because I’m curious XD.
Hi everyone,
I've been reading broadly online but there aren't enough informations (at least in English) in regard to insurance/taxes costs of owning a 'fancy' car in Germany.
I'm currently looking at purchasing a Porsche 997.2 GT3 which are about 80-100k euros.
Is there a 'supercar' tax or something like this? I'm Australian and this would be my first time insuring a car in Germany, which for what I understood, I would start with the lowest (most expensive) class due to be the first time ever insuring a car in Germany. I'm 31yo for what matters.
I would just like to know a rough cost of insurance and taxes? Not too worried about servicing etc. I already have a good idea.
Thank you everyone
Hello,
I am at the end of my PhD studies (in a STEM field - neuroscience), but my funding will expire soon(in 1-2 months). I am writing my thesis, and I hope to submit the thesis before my funding expires (in the same month hopefully, or one month after my funding expires), but it will take a few months (as is normal) to get my phd degree - because I would have to defend my thesis, etc. My residence permit expires at the same time my funding expires.
Since I was funded before, I was on the researcher visa and not the student visa. But after losing funding I have two options:
1-Student visa
2-Job seeker visa
Which would be the appropriate visa for me? I would still be affiliated to the university after submission, since I will still have to defend my thesis and get the degree. It might also happen that I am not able to finish writing my thesis on time, and would need one extra month.
Having a student visa for those few months would extend the overall time I can stay in germany(and look for a job), since I can apply for a job seeker visa directly after. So I would prefer this option.
I have already started to apply for the unemployment benefit and I have enough money in the bank for the next few years.
Hi,
My baby is almost 15 months and i need help in finding a place for him in a kita. Every kita that i went to says they don't have places for the next couple of years.
Any advice on how to secure a place as soon as possible or if there is a portal where i can see the availabilities?
If it helps, i live in Wuppertal Elberfeld
Hey everyone <3
I have a question regarding postal services in Germany: Is it an option to send packages so that the receiving party doesn’t have my name and address? If yes, is that fine with international shipment?
I am selling clothes on Vinted, and I’m very paranoid about my privacy because these are not people I know, so I am wondering if I can ship packages without it being traceable back to me. Any suggestions on how to do it are welcome :)
Hello everyone,
I’m facing an issue with the Rundfunkbeitrag (radio/TV license fee) in Germany and need some advice.
I moved to a new place and updated my address on the ARD/ZDF Beitragsservice website 4 months ago. However, the radio fee for this new apartment is already being paid by my husband, yet they still charged me for three(Dec-Feb) months. This means we have ended up paying double fees for a 35 sqm studio apartment!
Instead of recognizing the address change, they just deducted the fee from my account. Does anyone know how to claim a refund or officially inform them that my husband is already covering the payment? Any guidance would be really appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
My parents have reached retirement age and are currently applying for their German Rente. My understanding is that the Deutsche persönliche Identifikationsnummer für steuerliche Zwecke was introduced in 2008. My parents emigrated from Germany prior to 2008, so none of their Steur/Arbeits paperwork has this number.
The paperwork requires them to add this number to their application. I have some questions:
Since they did not have this number prior to their emigration, can they fill out the Rente application without and be approved?
If the Deutsche persönliche Identifikationsnummer für steuerliche Zwecke is required, can they apply for one (although they don't live in Germany anymore?)
Hey everyone. We just moved to Germany and we got a lovely apartment, however the fridge is small. We were thinking of putting a mini fridge in our cellar, to store drinks (no food) like colas or beer (no heavy alcohol). What are your thoughts about it? Nothing is mentioned in our contract regarding that.
Important info: the cellar is in the basement and each apartment has their own private cellars.
Thank you in advance!!!
As the title suggests, I’m looking for gun ranges (bb guns or real guns) near Trier in Germany? Visiting over Easter this year and hoping to book a group of 4 or so in just for fun
Hallo everybody!
The story is: My mother went into Y shop with a shoulderbag that contained stuff bought in shop X. Everything from shop X was their own brand she also had the bill with her. When she got there the cashier started yelling at her and forcefully started going through the bag. Then she made her stand in the middle of the shop (near the bakery/café) for almost 20 minutes. Every few minutes she yelled at her that she was not allowed the leave and of course eveyone was staring at her. She should have left her shoulderbag that is clear, but what the fuck is this treatment?! Should she not be escorted to a private room and let her empty her bag or something? The employee could have dropped anything into the bag (like a parfume) when they forcefully started rumagging through it. Is there any basis under civil law to press charges against the shop? She cried for hours and a day later she still feels humiliated.
Hello,
I worked in Berlin for 3 years, with Blue card,
and AFAIK I need only German A1 certificate to apply PR in Berlin if I worked for 3 years.
And, well - now I realized that I need to pass 'Leben in Deutschland' test,
(and of course it's a German test.)
Q : Which german language level do I need to pass this test? A2? B1? B2? I hope not C.
P.S The language requirement for PR is A1,
but I need to get more than B1 to get this test ;(
Hey everyone! Do you have any recommendations for hair products that can help prevent dryness? I’m particularly interested in those that are available from DM 😉
Psychiatry is a field I’ve been very interested in pursuing, and I was wondering how difficult this would be to accomplish in Germany? I am a dual citizen, currently living in the US. My original plan was to pursue this career in the US but due to the dark economic forecast and the unfortunate political developments I am rethinking this. I would likely complete a 4 year degree with a major in psychology here, would it then be possibly to transfer for to a German medical school to continue the process and pursue that career in Germany? I only know the process for becoming a psychiatrist in the US, is it similar in Germany? What requirements are needed to get into a German medical school from a US University (likely a state university)? Any advice is greatly appreciated.
I am Steuerklasse 1 & working in Germany since 1 year. I know that you can do it per Apps or Steuerberater. Mi mind is totally blank with this topic and how to start with it.

I'm curious how much would be the salary range for electrical engineer or technician in Germany. My fiance is currently working over there and I'm thinking about transferring to Germany if things get itchy here where I am currently at. I am currently working as an electrical technician in the oil & has industry and earning 72k$ before taxes. 82k if I go superman with the voluntary overtime. I'm also continuing my studies for bachelor's.
Hi everyone, I am new to Germany and I am in the process of getting my Blue Card (residence permit). I have my appointment at the Auslanderbehorde in May. I want to change my apartment (and therefore my address). I will enter the new apartment at the end of March. What steps should I take to successfully change my city registration address to the new one and timely inform the Auslanderbehorde of my new address so that my Blue Card progress is not delayed. Any advice is greatly appreciared. Thank you!
I'm currently about to complete my first year bachelor's in my native country in a very good and reputable college. The curriculum is good and the opportunities are good too. I have a B2 German certificate and I'm preparing for my C1 exam which I should hopefully be done with in May/June this year. However, I'm not fully satisfied with my German and I am planning on improving them in the next three years and also giving the TestDAF.
I found a good university in Germany providing an English taught bachelor's course in my field and the curriculum is interesting. Also the curriculum there is more research based than the one here which has more to do with my future plans. My original plan was to complete my bachelor's here, while working on my German skills (my college also has a great German language course and the city in general has a lot of German language related opportunities) and go to Germany for my master's. However the more I look at it the more it interests me. I've grown up in the city I'm studying in right now and I'm not stepping out of my comfort zone at all, although I could find ways to do that here too, maybe moving out could help me develop personally too.
The dilemma is that applying to Germany now would be a long process, with the IELTS, and giving a TestAS exam and getting my APS certificate etc etc which is also not cheap. Plus the university I have in mind has a 5% international student quota so there is a chance that I don't get in at all.
My question is, would it be wiser to drop the idea and stay in my city, get my bachelor's degree from this well known and proved to be good college while working on my German skills for the next 3 years and making the most out of the opportunities I get and then go to Germany for my master's, or would it be a good decision to take a shot and go through the procedure to apply to the German university and have the possibility to experience studying abroad right away?
I'm confused and I want to know your thoughts.
I see that there is a problem people adopting/agreeing with/getting convinces by far right ideologies. But don't we need to change these people minds? I don't know if these demos change the minds of any of the people who need their minds changed. It seems to be more for people who already agree to feel righteous for a moment.
Don't we need to find a way to get through to the AfD people? We can't just have 30% of the country irredemable and demonised - I don't see how that leads somewhere good.
Happy to hear thoughs why I'm wrong or what I'm missing.
Hey all,
First time going to Germany on April. What are the top tips I should not miss?
Please be real - I’m not afraid at all
I’m going to Frankfurt, Stuttgart and Munich
Vielen Danke!
