Autokerkhoven gezocht!

Dag allemaal,

Is Ypres worth visiting for Armistice Day?

I was either going to stay in Amsterdam for another night or head to Ypres to celebrate Armistice Day since it's a big deal here I heard (I'm from U.S.) . But is it not that exciting compared to Amsterdam haha

How do Belgians say "is survived by" in obituaries?

In the US, it's common to say "[deceased person] is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, his 2 children, and his 4 grandchildren."

How do Belgians say this in obituaries, or is that not traditional?

Can a ex-criminal become a minister or even Prime Minister in Belgium?

In the light of America electing a convicted felon as president. Can the same happen in Belgium? I don't want to discuss or know what you think of the things in the USA. I'm now asking for the possibility of an ex-prisoner to join a political party, become mayor or even higher up?

Are there laws preventing this? I know political positions are decided among the political parties. I don't see any laws preventing it.

Dries Van Langenhove has been criminally charged, can he become party leader or have any influence in lawmaking or decisions around laws? (DVL used as an example, my question is the same, could Mark Dutrpux join a political party and take a position of power?)

Vraag over airfryer-friet

Hallo Belgium,

Read me not

For a special school publication, I am looking for people who are willing to share a story, experience or secret with me – a story that weighs heavily on your heart, something you would rather forget or avoid. This could be a trauma, a sad event or a life-changing experience that you may never dare to talk about. It could also be something embarrassing, something uncomfortable or something you wouldn't dare tell anyone.

Your story remains completely anonymous. Avoid mentioning names or recognizable details so that your identity remains protected.

Submit your story, no matter how short or long it is. Each story is treated with respect and bundled without any relevant information. This is your chance to share what you may have been carrying with you for a long time.

thank you in advance

--------------------------------

Jouw verhaal blijft volledig anoniem.

alvast bedankt, Robbe

Traveling here in Jan!

Hello Reddit!

*intentionally posting this in Belgium subreddit*

https://preview.redd.it/gxr20knlkqzd1.png?width=1046&format=png&auto=webp&s=c22eccb942d5049ebf4924a47fe0ac0d870e593b

I am visiting friends in Amsterdam from Jan 2-7 and looking for some fun ideas. Since they moved there 5 years ago they have done it all, and we as a collective are struggling how to best utilize my time there. Any ideas? Some that we are for sure doing

  1. Anne Frank house

  2. Canals - hopefully find a good canal company as the one they like is apparently sold out those days

  3. Traveling somewhere for an overnight trip within the region of the map attached, if anyone has recommendations. My friends said there are castles along the Rhine you can drive along but from what they recall (they did it years ago) the area within ~4 hours from Amsterdam is not the best part. They usually travel throughout all of Europe and do not really "repeat" ventures so said they are not sure and blogs seem to agree with them that maybe that is not the best. So, some ideas for an overnight trip we have tossed around:

Visit Bruges - if anyone agrees, any thoughts on what is cool there? They have not been

Visit Cologne or Bonn or Dusseldorf via along the Rhine as mentioned above, but will skip on that and do via train if folks agree its the the most scenic part. I wanted to visit one of the Christmas market towns but from what I can find, most will close up shop by the first week in Jan

Brussels? They have been there and said it wouldn't be the best option as there are more "unique" places

Some things to know:

I know Amsterdam is known for museums. Besides Anne Frank, those don't interest me too much. Maybe the nature and science one. I am much more of an outdoors, walk around quaint towns, visit castles, go to breweries, etc type person. For example when visiting Paris I went to the Louve for the outside and had zero desire to wait for that line to go inside.

We are good with bundling up for a good time outside if anyone has any good recs for outdoor activities. But with the gear required/short time frame, ski trip would be out.

Plan on posting this on Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany subs.

Buying an apartment on biddit

I am interested in knowing more about the exact process of what happens if your bid is accepted.

In the information it states that signing of the ´minutes’ takes place at a specific time 3 days after the bid is closed. What does this mean exactly?

Is that when the deed is signed? Do I pay the full amount and all fees on that day? Or is it just the ´agreement’, then we go to the ´normal’ process between two Notarys to draw up the final deed and pay? Or is it just the seller’s Notary involved?

I can’t find exact details of what happens after the bid is accepted online. Some places say it’s just the fees, then about 6 weeks to pay. Some say you sign the final deed within 8 days.

Confused! Thanks.

2 euro muntstukken laten schatten

Any ideas what happened to the efforts below ? How do you guys see this playing out considering the current negotiations around the formation of federal government.?

Is there any chance of this going through? Any thoughts?

Digitale meter elektriciteit+gas

Bedankt!

Any stores near Brussels MIDI station to buy cheap high heels- London visiter

Hi! I’m travelling to Belgium within a few hours from London to attend a wedding. I can’t find the other pair heels that I want to wear to the wedding. What shops would you recommend for cheap high heels (I’ve spent enough money preparing for the trip lol)

Are there shops similar to primark or market shops near the Brussels MIDI- Eurostar station. Anything will help! 🥺🤍

Bonus for any cafes/places for me to attend on Sunday x

Help me understand

To the Flemish here, maybe you can help me understand my (48F) partner (48M). We have been together since 2018 but I only joined him here in Belgium in 2020. He is from East Flanders and I’m non-EU.

I was telling him today about an encounter in Brussels. I went to Delhaize to buy cat food and the staff didn’t understand when I asked her about it. “Cat?” Nope. I said “Meow” and she pointed me to the next aisle. So I told my BF I will start learning French in Duolingo to help me with such basic stuff since I work in Brussels.

His reaction was similar to when I told him last year that I have been accepted to a master’s program in the university—scornful. “You’re almost 50. What are you going back to university for?” The course is in Dutch, which, for someone who has started learning it only 3 years ago, is a bit challenging. When I passed my first subject, I was ecstatic and told him about it. The same reaction—scorn. What a useless thing to do (study), he said.

I really don’t get his reaction. It’s not like it’s affecting him in any way since I also work 4/5. I asked him to tell me why he thinks that way and he wouldn’t (or couldn’t) explain.

So, my question is: Is this reaction typical for Flemish people in that age range? I would appreciate any insights, thanks!

Blond bier zoals de groene westvleteren

Heykes

Priority vehicle for "funerair & forensisch transport"

Today I´ve been passed by one of these (or a very similar) van with "Funerair & Forensich transport" on it. But the weird thing is that it had blue lights and a siren on, and was driving like a firetruck or the police on their way to an intervention.

Reading their site doesn´t tell me why these might be priority vehicules..

Anybody got any insight on why these need to speed to somewhere? Besides zombies obviously.
