As a musician I always had massive appreciation for Glassjaw, mainly their orchestration assembly and use of melody and I also found a lot of semblance to Bjork in the vocal attack- I consumed the music from a completely aesthetic and stylistic approach and I was in a post grind band arranging guitar rhythm and melody, plus I was a wee baby at the time, hadn’t experienced life.

Now I have been afflicted by life, I lived In NYC , Orleans, and Vegas- move back to LA. Toured, kicked heroin, betrayed/ betrayer, up down all around the fountain.

Man, without these poems I would probably of relapsed into hedonism and self destructive behaviors.I dont even recognize myself anymore. It used to just be a primary color and the base coat in a tapestry of style I grew up in. Now, at the end of what I consider the beginning of my life it seems like some lost keynote and rosetta stone of heartbreak and decisions that I dont really feel like I had a choice in making. I dont really know who I am or where I am headed but I felt compelled to share and say thank you to Glassjaw especially. Music had become a poison dagger attached to so much of the wounds and blood of my life but Ive been listening to glassjaw again for the past few weeks and I feel like there is just a whisper at the edge of my hearing from my true self and they don’t entirely hate themselves.

Anyways sorry for the soliloquy of self pity. Im going to go smoke a cigarette and listen to Piano again. Fuck.

I’ve been taking an intro to music theory class this semester and have been learning about time signatures. Since they are my fav band, I am curious, are there any gj songs that arent in 4/4 or are just in an odd time signature? I’m sure there are but I cant think of many. It sounds like El Mark is in 3/4 or 6/8 but I cant tell which one. Always, would love to hear others!
