This is in honor of hearing that the current International Olympic Committee President's (Thomas Bach) term will end around 2025.
Who do you think is the BEST IOC President? What were his achievements and struggles? The highs and lows during his term(s)?
And who would Thomas Bach's successor as IOC President be? You can add your expectations and predictions of the future Olympic Games when that successor starts his/her term.
Hi there! My partner and I attended the Summer games in Paris this year and had an incredible time. We've never attended a Winter games, but I'm interested in going in 2026 and have signed up for the ticket draw. My questions are:
The events we are most interested in are short track speed skating, figure skating, hockey, curling, freestyle skiing, and snowboarding. Are any of these NOT worth going to?
Will any of the mountains in the area(s) be open for regular skiing? We are both skiers and would love to spend time both skiing and attending events.
I have been to Cortina d'Ampezzo and Milan, but I'm unfamiliar with the other towns. Are they all relatively easy to go between, or should we plan to pick 1 area and stay there? I know the mountain roads can be very narrow/winding, and I'm a bit worried about driving in snowy conditions.
We planned all of our France transport/accommodations ourselves, which I generally prefer. However, given #4, is it worth going through a tour company to handle the logistics?
Thank you for any and all advice!
Olympic Sports Streaming Year-Round
To all my sports fans out there! I’m curious about your thoughts on year-round Olympic-level sports content. I’d love to hear your take on a few questions:
Would you be interested in watching Olympic-level sports (beach volleyball, track and field, gymnastics, swimming etc) content year-round, even when the Olympics Games aren’t happening?
If there were a platform with regular coverage of Olympic and other high-level sports events outside the Olympic season, would you stream it? Which sports would you be most interested in watching?
Would you be willing to pay for a dedicated streaming platform that gives year-round access to Olympic sports?
Just checking has anyone received their souvenir tickets. I'm still waiting to receive mine. I saw someone on the sub received theirs. For reference I'm located on the West Coast of the United States. I'm waiting for the South Sudan and Serbia Basketball game tickets
Years ago, many countries hosted the olympics, having fun with many sports like: gymnastics, aquatics, judo, atlhetics and others, but now people just care of one thing "soccer/football" the people just only care about this, and this even makes people lose interest of hosting the games, years ago, many countries have their bid interest, but now no more, people just care of hosting one sport event, to be honest, the people forgetting the olympics, No one wants to bid again, their prefer bidding other events, so this is the downfall of olympics? Or its the event not special anymore???
How are you displaying them? They are such an odd shape and I don’t want to pay for a frame for each one of them as I have 20 tickets. Any suggestions or advice on what you have done?
The place i work has received this hat and we are unsure who it is signed by. Google lens does not seem to be very helpful.
Any ideas would be massively appreciated
I had an idea of modifying MMA in two different paths that are practical and align with what other combat sports have done to be incorporated into the Olympics. Here's an evaluation of the feasibility and practicality of each path.
Path One (With Padding, Allow Elbows/Knees): Allowing elbows and knees while utilizing protective padding would preserve essential MMA techniques and improve safety with headgear and shin guards, aligning with Olympic standards. This approach would incorporate elements of combat sambo, showcasing MMA's unique versatility. Some modifications to scoring and rules may be necessary to ensure a balance between safety and the authenticity of the sport, but this path remains practical and achievable.
Path Two (No Elbows/Knees, Less Padding): This option would focus on effective grappling and striking while omitting higher-risk moves, making the competition safer without extensive padding. Athletes could compete with headgear and shin guards for adequate protection. This streamlined approach would likely attract a broader audience and could be more readily accepted by the IOC, facilitating MMA's inclusion in the Olympics.
By establishing clear rules and adding appropriate protective gear, MMA could meet the International Olympic Committee's. I believe these approaches are sensible, as it considers both athlete safety and sport integrity, which are key concerns for the Olympics.
Since people say the olympic mascots are weird, creepy, and unecessary, i posted this to see if there is another sport event that has better mascots than the olympic mascots. I will not count the One-sport events, only the multi-sport events.
