UPDATE ON BUDGET STICK MODIFICATION:
Apologies for not taking any pictures before, but I wanted to modify a budget stick that was almost entirely fibreglass, and had a mid bow (I hate mid bow sticks). I first reduced the bow entirely by gradually clamping the stick between two pieces of wood while heating the main bow area.
Then once the stick was only slightly bowed, I placed it on another piece of wood with a radiused end, and let around 225mm on the end of the stick overhang the wood. I then heated the area I wanted to bow and used a clamp to gradually bend it lower till it was around 40mm lower. This way once it cooled and sprung back slightly it would be more like 24mm bow.
This did caused some wrinkling around the concave side of the stick where it was bent, but i ground these wrinkles back with a sanding drum on my dremel, and then sanded the general area and applied finishing resin in surplus. once the resin hardened, I sanded this back till it was essentially flush, and scuffed and painted the stick before clear coating it with polyurethane. I also added a fine grit into the paint on the head, which would help provide grip similar to on some of the Adidas sticks.
Have now played 2 games with it and trained with it as well, and I can say that It is incredible for a DIY project and the stick is a joy to play with. Only downside is the fact that the stick has no carbon in it, so it feels very springy and not very nice to hit with. I'm aware that the paint will come off quite easily due to the thin clear coat, but I didn't want to invest much time or energy into this which will (hopefully) only need to last me a couple more months
Can female US high school field hockey athletes play university level field hockey in the UK/EU if mid level D1 schools to have interest in them as a recruit in the states? Many international players come here but the level of play seems much stronger overseas.
For Christmas, I'm wanting to ask for a field hockey sticks and glove. For the stick I want to get a ritual and I'm completely lost for the glove. I am not looking for anything too pricey but since rituals are quite expensive, I'm looking for maybe a 55. I play forward and midfield and am open to any suggestions.
Hi! Does anyone have a flo sports subscription that I can use just for today? I am wanting to watch the Big East tournament but I truly do not want to spend $30 to watch 1 single game!
You would be a LIFESAVER!! Thank you so so much in advance!
This is my first post on here; I am looking for a new stick, I usually play left midfield but sometimes striker, my main focus is my touch and being able to dribble with ease, but i’d also like a stick that can get power behind my shots. My last stick was Mercian but i’m skeptical to buy from them again as my stick now rattles after only a year or so, any suggestions?
The opposition just sets up infront of us and there are no passes. We don't lift well either. What can we do?
Hey, I'm looking for a new stick and I have found both of these. Could someone tell me which on would be better? I want a stick that's great for 3D skills, preferably with a thin blade, and still has good power when hitting. Any advice?
im mainly a forward sometimes a midfielder , id like a stick thats pretty low bow and had a thin blade so i can easily 3d, dribble and drag flick. i dont like sticks with a pretty fat blade. brands that are currently on my mind is grays and kuns (not sure if youve heard that brand before but its pretty good). suggestions?
Hi everyone! I’m wondering if anyone has a solution to this: I’d like to occasionally do stick work at home but I live in a condo with downstairs neighbors. Obviously the tap-tap-tap would be incredibly annoying for them so I’m trying to come up with a way to dampen the noise. I have a sock on my stick and I put some of those foam pads on the floor but it still seems to make noise.
I’ve resorted to checking when their cars are home but if anyone has a solution or recommendations, I’d be super grateful!
I have about 5 games left in my summer league for hockey and am currently using a really budget stick which I hate. I really prefer a low bow, as it allows me to do aerials and drags which I simply can't get any lift on with this mid bow.
Due to it being made of fiberglass and resin, I had the idea to modify the bow using a heat gun, and a cylindrical shape to bend the stick on. Would this be theoretically possible, or would the plastic rather burn than soften and move?
I have currently been predominantly using the Brabo Traditional 100 (It's quite old now), as my other sticks I find so much harder to play with. The Kookaburra UltraLite lithium is fairly decent but my investment in the Grays KN11000 I found to just have the heaviest touch known to man where I can barely dribble.
I'm looking to buy a new Osaka hockey stick but I don't know what to buy. I'm looking for a stick that is still a high carbon percentage that allows me to use 3d skills and is very light, but most importantly has a very good touch for dribbling and a bow.
Does anybody have any recommendations from having use Osaka sticks before (even older sticks suggestions are welcome if I can find them on eBay) Cheers!
I went for superlight after a short google search, hopefully it turns out fine
How do you buy them if you’re based in the uk, anyone had any luck yet
The sticks release tomorrow on hockeygear.eu but is it only for Netherlands or is it for uk aswell
I accidentally buy 37.5 length hockey stick will it be a big problem for me?
hi this is my first post just want to know which stick i should buy. i'm looking at the AC9 dynabow s and the gr10000 dynabow which is the better one or tell me your experience with either range thanks
Hello Everyone,
I currently own 2 project BDX's from Y1 which were the black friday prototypes from 2021. However, they are quite battered and bruised from the past few seasons and was wondering what current stick in the Y1 range is closest to it.
I understand the X versions are made of that swedish carbon and probably wont feel the same and ive looked around and the BDX is a low bow whilst the LB range is ultra low bow and the GLB is a low bow but has the reverse edge and square face.
I've done their stick quiz but dont feel that is helpful since they ask how you play instead of what you like in previous sticks.
As the title states, wondering if there is anywhere I can see the match tables and links to the clubs streams without jumping between YouTube, England hockey etc. bonus if there are links to all leagues across the world if available. At the moment I just search and sub to all the clubs YouTube channels
Mainly looking at UK hockey but happy to have links to any other hockey leagues, even if it's not prem level.
Thanks!
1 day until the Premier Hockey League commences in New Zealand. This league has been established with the help of significant investors for each of the four franchises. https://www.premierhockeyleague.co.nz/
The four teams are
Tridents Mavericks Falcons Alpiners
All games will be live streamed on TVNZ which you can sign up to free, probably having to use a VPN. The league format means home and away games for the next 5 weekends (one double header) culminating in a finals weekend.
My organization is working on putting down an astro turf in the DC area with the goal of creating a hub for adult and youth field hockey. Besides obviously securing funding/grants and land for a project like this, what other roadblocks or hurdles should we be accounting for during this process?
Any feedback or notes from folks who have been involved with turf installation committees in the US would be greatly appreciated!
So I play field hockey at a high school level and our amazing goalie is a senior and graduates this year. I’m interested in potentially playing in goal next year, but I’m wondering what I can do in the offseason to prep for this? If anyone has any tips or advice, it’d be greatly appreciated!
At first, the 2026 HWC was promised to be played on new dry turfs. Then, that was changed to the 2028 Olympics being the first major tournament. Now it is looking like the 2030 HWC.
Does this idea just need a complete rethink? They've been working on this idea for quite a few years now (since 2018!) maybe it's time to give up. Is water usage actually a problem in some countries? I believe in NZ water usage isn't really a constraint on turfs - most of it is recycled anyway plus we play in winter when water shortages are less (non-existent)
