hello! I’m a DS / Right side hitter, 5’6, 139 lbs. I’m a current volleyball player and i wanna finally start taking it seriously and putting 101% effort into it. I’ve been trying to look for some workouts but I can’t seem to find any that are useful or that I feel, effective. any suggestions? my main concerns below.
my arms, I’m not that strong and can barely do a push up. I’d love to get stronger and start off slow and gradually level up into actually being able to do atleast like 10 pushups. I’d love to make my recurve platform more sturdy.
flexibility is one thing I absolutely do NOT have, I can barely touch my toes and I would love to be able to have more range in motion, volleyball is very articulate iykyk. any YouTube videos for that?
I’m like average height with an 8 in vert, I would love to make it higher but idk how to jump, any blockers have any tips for me as to how to jump higher?
that’s all! thank u for reading, i hope this message greets & leaves u well. bye!!
What's the current rule on blocker's hand "interference" when your team pass the ball into the net? If their hand is positioned there without moving and the ball hits the net then their hand, which gets redirected, is that legal?
And what about if they purposely moved their hand to make contact with the ball behind the net, resulting in redirecting the ball away from a possible play, is this illegal?
Hi everyone I coach a 12u girls team and we have a lot of struggle with 1 and 5 covering pot in front of 6 and who should be taking deep corner balls. Does anyone have any advice on drills that could work on this or ways to teach the girls to defend these spots?
I have a championship coming up in 3 months. I made my Team, and we try to practice as frequently as possible, but when I think about the championship, I get butterflies in my stomach and get really cold from excitement. (I only get this when its an important match coming up)
What are some things/rituals you do before an important match to calm your nerves/gain more confidence?
for context, I'm a 6 ft sophomore and I am not white I started playing volleyball in 8th grade and I was on A team our team was undefeated and we were all very good players. When the season was over and my parents started looking at clubs, I always knew that clubs were sometimes away to hold some players and families back from playing sports with costs, but I came from a wealthy family, so I wasn't worried about it. As a black person I have experienced racism many times but when I tried out for my club one of the coaches was constantly calling me the n-word in private and under his breath as well as telling me constant remarks about my race. in the end, I got on the top team and we got 2nd in the state this season. but the remarks had never stopped. for the last two seasons, my family has paid around 20,000 I love my volleyball, and my teammates are the kindest people on earth but I don't know what to do. advice?
where should the spiker stand? always at the same distance from the net or should i adapt to the set, by walking back? and if the set is suboptimal for me, should I just jump and toss it to a difficult place for the enemy team?
I've been training learning the 3 step approach and swing, but I'm having trouble with my homemade net at home which is fairly tall. I can sort of spike fairly well when the ball is near the net, but like 40cm away from the net i hit the ball fairly far from the net (haven't tried it in a real court). I just toss the ball in the air (trying to mimic a set, near the net) and try to spike, is that fine? should i be randomizing my distance from the net too? what if my "set" is not near the net? where should the ball be?
how should i even be practicing spiking at home? is it possible? I have an old deflated soccer ball (i don't want to damage my normal volleyball outside) and a string that simulates the height of a net. any deep advice or videos are highly appreciated!
EDIT: I was super confused because, i didnt realize top spin on the ball was a thing, i thought that you need a sharp angle otherwise its an out, but looking at a ball with topspin i realized that it doesnt have to be that sharp just 20deg or so and topspin will take care of the rest
So I’m this situation, I’m 19 so I can’t join any age specific youth teams, but I’d like to join a team mostly for the social aspect to meet people around my age and develop our skills together, while all the teams for adults are any age open and are full of people with like beards and stuff. I look 15 so I’m afraid I’ll look very out of place there.
Another problem is my skill level, I’ve just started intensely learning volleyball 3 weeks ago, before only playing with family and in school.
The only team I found that doesn’t have the first problem is in the lowest league and I’m afraid I won’t get accepted into it.
What do I do then? I’d like to play somewhere, not just train (which is what I’m doing now)
my jump floats look more like rainbows, and they arent very strong either. pls help, i wish to make them straight and strong 💔💔💔
We are a volleyball university team in need of a full-time coach. Currently, we have a temporary coach, but he primarily trains a youth team (I’m not sure which age category exactly).
As a result, he is only available to coach us for about 2 hours, 2 days a week, and his priority remains with his young team. Therefore, we need a dedicated, full-time coach.
Edit : The university is (KFUPM)

This is some footage from an open gym i went to, and all these hits in the video were in but i just cant figure out how to hit the ball down so i dont go as deep. Can anyone offer any help
Man it feels super frustrating...
Just had to share it, that feeling is awful =(
I have this habit of swinging my arms through my legs when receiving a ball. Any tips on how to avoid it?
Hello,
I'm a beginner volleyball coach with limited playing experience, but I’m truly passionate about the game. I currently coach a club team formed with friends, and we work extremely hard every day to improve ourselves.
I've consumed all the available content on GMS and spent countless hours reading posts, blogs, and websites to find the best ways to support my players and friends.
Next week, we have a friendly match against a much stronger team, and I’m unsure how to approach this situation. Should I encourage my players to treat it as a competitive game or more as a learning experience, given that we’re beginners?
Additionally, I would appreciate any advice on what I should prioritize as a coach during the match and how to select players for the starting lineup.
If any experienced coach could guide me through this, I would be incredibly grateful.
Thank you!
So this happened to me today and I thought it was pretty interesting lol .. they can’t stop the ball from falling anyways and they’d lose the point 100% and considering that I went and reached over the net and spiked it !! while it’s in their court and the point got taken away since it’s illegal. Any thoughts on that ?
Any advice would be appreciated! Only have the warm ups for now :)
I have been learning to spike for like 2 months now and i see this big leg seperation most of the times and also my arm swing does it look right i am trying to drawback with my elbow to generate power so i just wanted to know the problems in my form
Ouch
Challenge cup quarter finals. The most evident 4 touches ever and refs didn't catch it.
My team played kinda bad at our last tournament and I’m scared of practice tomorrow. I heard that last year she made her team do 5 box pushes and killers. Afterwards they all threw up in the bathroom. I think I’m done for 😭
