I find that most of the time, just sticking to what I know and being flexible with my approach has been quite successful so far. What’s your take on it?
Competed in a casual (doesn't effect any standings or qualify for anything) u23 tournament last weekend and I got cradled. The ref pulled my leg out as he was worried it was about to snap (i didn't even notice he touched me untill i saw the video). My opponent was quite upset that the ref interfered, especially after I pinned him later while down 9 points. The ref said his first priority was athletes safety. How would you feel in this scenario?
recently started using these in sparring and i've found a lot of success with them.
anytime someone's not very disciplined with pressure off of ties it's very open to hit, as they leave a little space that you can turn into to initate the throw. ive hit this when people try to circle out of my underhook or off of a whizzer. you can also pull with ties to make it happen
i also love hitting it off a rear body lock as the person on bottom, can separate their hands then bring one over my shoulder to throw them. works especially well bc people are typically pushing into you and you're able to use their momentum against them. this also works on the ground which people rarely expect.
another situation i like hitting it in when they're trying to push out with an underhook, you can slip down like for a fireman's carry and use their momentum against them. works especially well if they have their head on the opposite side like a lot of iranians do, as it gives you more space for the throw. i actually prefer arm throws to firemans' because i feel like it's faster--i don't have to reach for their leg i just have to turn and send them.
i've been loving this takedown and i thought i'd share. it's definitely situational and it's harder to hit when people are ready for it, but i found it surprisingly versatile and a useful tool to have
They seem like they barely do anything
In my country in europe, we dont really have «off season» and «season».
How should we do with trainings if theres no off season? Should we follow the american season
I was volunteering as an assistant at the school where I work as a special ed teacher. I took on the role of coaching up the JV kids, giving them a foundation, building team comradery, and making sure kids feel supported and do not quit. However I had to pick up a job as a waiter to make ends meet and I told the head coach that I would need to step away for a bit. It has been almost a month and JV kids have been coming up to me nonstop at school begging me to come back, complaining that kids are quitting and no one is having fun and none of them feel supported by the head coach.
They complain that unless you are a high level varsity guy the coach flat out ignores them. I texted the coach saying that I have 2-3 week days off from work so that I could come back and help out with the new kids and he flat out ignored me. Then the kids went to him yesterday and asked if I could please come back and apparently he just blew them off.
So I decided "f-it, I refuse to let those kids hate this sport that I love so much, there are way too many life lessons they could be missing out on" and I am going back tomorrow to resume with the new kids. I am worried about the coach hating me but at the same time I love teaching and I love wrestling and I want those kids to have fun and feel like they belong.
Am I overstepping? I feel like I serve a good purpose as the JV guys get little help without me there. I just do not want the coach to get mad at me and the kids who wanted me back.
If you wrestle one year ncaa then go to juco for two years could you go back to ncaa and finish your three years? Does this make you ineligible because it is past the five year timeframe?
plan to wrestle on an ncwa team, what should i expect? what’s some big differences between ncwa and ncaa? do you get a similar experience? how competitive is it really?
My son who is 5, weighs 44lbs. He attends a small club, and is in his first year of wrestling. He's done an awesome job this year, has had a ton of fun, and loves everything about wrestling right now.
His club as the season went on participation numbers have dropped. Most kids wrestling for a school district opting to attend those practices full time. Leaving my son to practice with two kids over 50lbs, and having a 15%+ weight difference on him.
Drilling is perfectly fine, as it hasn't affected much. However, recently, during live portion both of them have learned they can just bull him over with their size (height and weight).
Both kids are throwers, headlocks and hip tosses. While my son knows how to do these just can't compete because of the weight difference when he tries to throw them back.
His go to is usually an arm drag to double leg. Now they have just kind of literally been charging him, so even if he tries to arm drag , duck under, level change and pop the elbows the size overwhelms him.
I understand he's only 5, but just want to look for suggestions to help him out as we wind down the season so we doesn't leave discouraged for next year.

i want to do wrestling but i'm really tall for my age, i workout 5x a week and eat proper proteins. i'm 6,3 204 at 14, i'm quite skinny for my size but i could probably lose about 5-10 pounds without losing too much muscle, would i get pwned trying to wrestle or is it something i could do good at for my height?
So I want to get into wrestling. I don't have any sort of prior experience with any combat sports, or any sports for that matter (on a competitive field at least, I play a couple recreationally). I'm not particularily athletic, so I decided I want to get into a combat sport to not only learn to protect my bloodline 🗿 but also to get bigger physically too. I'm not particularily strong, in fact physically I am built relatively skinny (183cm 76kg), though I am young at 18y/o and do calisthenics to keep the blood flowing.
A big question I have for starting wrestling is that I'm not pursuing it at a competitive level. From what I've heard, wrestling is very rarely a recreational sport and is usually pursued at high school / collegiate levels competitively. Me personally I'm not interested in seriously competing though that doesn't mean I don't want to put lots of drive and effort into learning wrestling and appropriately working on my body. I WANT something like wrestling to be able to melt time into.
Also I kinda just like the idea of manhandling other dudes
Is it feasible to train in wrestling if I'm not going to be competing? Are there even opportunities for people like that to train?
Another thing is where to start. As mentioned before, I'm pretty skinny, and beyond that, I'm fairly weak in terms of power output. Would it first be better for me to train my physique up then learn wrestling at a gym? Or should I learn wrestling at a gym and the physique will come later as a byproduct?
Any other questions I have I'll be sure to follow up in the comments or make another post, thanks for the help in advance 👍
TL:DR;
Is it possible to get good at wrestling if I don't want to compete? Though this doesn't mean I won't put passion into it.
Train physique then learn to wrestle? Or learn to wrestle and the physique will come later?
Im in my 4th and final year of high school wrestling. Im currently at 144 in a deep wrestling state and in my best season yet. I knew without a doubt I wanted to continue wrestling and so I’m taking my D3 opportunities.
I have goals for the jump to collegiate wrestling. I want to go up in weight, not down, which is gonna require me to bulk up quite a bit. I also understand that I need to transcend some levels this off-season and become more disciplined. Discipline is something I’ve struggled with my whole high school career, eating and sleeping well, making weight, being academically responsible, taking care of strength training. Fortunately I’ve covered both my weight and academic issues in the last year or so, however the other things are still consistent issues for me.
Other than what I’ve mentioned, what do you guys, active or former collegiate wrestlers have to advise me about making the commitment, from your own personal experience, that I will really need to know? Thanks
Every season my school's team gives the option of compression tee with shorts or a slinglet. My question is should i try a slinglet this season? Last season i did a compression tee with the shorts and i thought it was alright but i never tried on a slinglet. Please give me your opinions. *Also the slinglet color is Maroon with my school name in gold*
I started wrestling as an adult in my mid-thirties and have been consistent for a couple of years. And now I'm at a point where each practice is around 2 to 3 hours with drilling and live rounds. The only thing is that I only go once a week. Maybe twice if I do a chiller practice.
The day after practice I am usually very sore which is fine. However, the question I have is I have been doing this for years now and I am still very sore the next day. I thought my body would have adapted by now. For those who wrestle as an adult, are you always sore after a hard practice? Was there a point where you're no longer sore after practice?
im the black guy is there anything i can improve on and what mistakes i made
I am only a week into wrestling and my first match is Tommorow I’m in the 78 weight class and I’m in 8th grade
As the title says im looking for a solid move when the opponent pressures in. I know heavy snap is the go to but a lot of the people in mu area are much stronger than man as well as I am not the strongest so what are some more move options when they are just backing up in ties and letting me pressure.
Thanks
Yall im a junior 1st year wrestler in high school I compete at 285 im supposed to be JV but my coach randomly decided to put me on varsity for our last two meets and for our districts meets Im very worried excited and happy that he did this
Our high schools HW wrestler tore his MCL new year of 2025 I dont have much experience wrestling good experienced HW wrestlers and everyone in my team says i will get destroyed by these bigger taller stronger and fatter guys
Any tips for wrestling heavyweight? My best takedowns are a knee pick. Hip toss and snapping down into a cement mixer
I lack a lot of strength for a heavyweight and im very worried i will get pinned or destroyed even tho it is inevitable.
i just want any tips on what I should work on the next day before my duel meet wrestling HW.
So much in wrestling we see pa as a dominant force in the sport at the highest level and we hear about all the top guys coming from the state like Bo,Forrest ect but how much better is the average pa hs wrestler against the average hs wrestler from other states. To take it a step further how much better is pa jv then jv from other states. I’ve always heard about pa guys who barely make it into regions killing champs/placers from other states but how true is it. As someone who currently wrestles in Pa I don’t think it’s crazy to say they are guys who can’t make it out of their district that could go to other states and smash guys from other states.
My son has ring worm. He's in K and this is his first time having it. We used antifungal cream but it kept spreading. His doctor prescribed Itraconazole (liquid form) he's been on it for 5 days. He currently has 35 spots ranging in size from chicken pox size to two plus inches. All are red but dry red color if that makes sense Is it normal to have so many spots? All but 5 are on his torso. Looking for any insight. We've washed everything, change bedding daily and he showers with the anti fungus shampoo.
I manage my weight at 188 wrestling 192. I’ve took creatine before a match to see if it would improve my strength and it did but during the match I was so dehydrated.I been thinking the cause is I’m not drinking enough water or I’m not used to taking creatine?
The other day i was in the locker room with just my teamate and he dropped a vape on the floor. This teamate helped me out soooo much mentality when i was starting out and he means so much to me. I want whats best for him but i dont know what to do
Tell coach he finds out i told coach. He hates me gets 3 day suspention and a month long suspention from wrestling
Dont tell coach. He likes me but i feel guilty for not doing anything
3.help him quit but not tell coach. He might refuse the help but id sleep well knowing i helped. I could also get in trouble for knowing he was doing it but nothing much. (Maybe like a lunch detention)
So my practice partner and I are the only girls on the wrestling team so we tend to practice a lot together except for live wrestling. However, she tends to get hurt or gets tired really easily and I don’t wanna hurt her/make her feel worse so I go easier on her. She doesn’t go very hard on me either, especially when she gets tired. And on my end, I realize it’s not right of me to do so because then she’s not gonna be prepared for a match. And I have practiced with the boys sometimes and they actually go hard and I feel like I have to really try. I really wanna get better at wrestling but I don’t know how to bring this up to my friend. Check my other post about my wrestling partner if you want more context. I think my best option is to just ask my coach if I can drill/practice with the boys more. But today during practice we were practicing hand fighting in referees position and I got a two-on-one on my friend. Before this, my coach said that it’s important to make it difficult for our partners because it prepares them for a match. And I totally agree! Hence, I really held onto my partner. She said to me, “we’re supposed to be hand fighting. Let me fight.” And to an extent I agree but hypothetically, your opponent is not just gonna let you go, you know what I mean??? I didn’t wanna anger her so I didn’t say anything and just did what she told me to do. This is kind of a reoccurring thing too. She brought up to me that the guy she was practicing with was being really aggressive for no reason. Another time was when I held on to her and she was like “you’re going like really hard for no reason when we’re just drilling”. And again, I just apologized and didn’t hold on as hard. Am I wrong? Should I just ask my coach to just let me practice with the guys more?
