I would love to see this match. Who do you guys think would win in a freestyle match.
Hello everyone,
I am considering moving to Europe for career/financial reason and was curious if anyone had the expertise or knowledge to tell me which country has the better wrestling scene between Germany and Serbia?
I understand Servia is much closer to countries like Turkey Armenia Georgia etc which are all wrestling powerhouses but was curious what the infrastructure for coaching and training is like in Serbia specifically.
I have been to Germany once before for training and I feel I have a decent idea what the developmental stream is like and the government support for wrestling, but having never been to Serbia I cannot compare the two.
Any advice is appreciated!
first year. im was oringally going to wreslte girls 190 but ive been going to open mats and i relaized im slow snd its hard for me to feel comfortable wrestling at this weight the season starts Nov 11th and first meet is Nov 27 I can make weight by then forsure for 170 but i dont know if it will be a good decison because ill be dehydrated and tired and that is less than a month i dont know how to approach my coaches about this
I've heard lot of people say you should always be looking to score points and be aggressive the entire match, but on the other hand there's a lot of international wrestlers who are more conservative and only attack if/when they need to.
An example of this I believe is Sidakov, which is why he has so many close matches (correct me if I'm wrong).
I think the same could be said for Ghasempour vs Sadulaev compared to Taylor vs Sadulaev. Ghasempour looked more "conservative" and had a closer match with (and almost beat) Sadulaev compared to Taylor, who took a lot of shots and got countered.
Was just curious what are your thoughts on what approach is better, or if it varies by match. Id appreciate your thoughts and feedback!
I'm at a crossroads here and just don't know what to do…
Here is where the story starts:
I wrestled since I could basically walk and didn't do much high level competition stuff in the K-6 years of my life simply because my father didn't believe in doing all that because he didn't want to burn me out. This proved to be smart as many kids that did do that fizzled out and I didn't.
My HS career I made varsity 7-12 making state once wrestling at a variety of different weights.
7-106 8-113 9-126 10-145 11-132 12-139
Each year I cut weight to make it minus 7th and 10th grade. Ranging from 10 pound cuts to 20 pound cuts. And after awhile people knew me and recognized me and supported me. And after a state entrance via individual and team I had accomplished everything I wanted to get done.
Now there's the problem:
I signed with a juco college to get a feel for college and didn't imagine my cut would be that bad. Fast forward to pre summer, I was shipped to basic training weighing around 150 planning to wrestle 133. Post basic I was then 170. I told my coach I'd still try and I felt motivated to do so. Present day, I weigh 143.5 as of writing this. After losing all that weight I told my coach it's going to be 141 or 149 because I can't do that and even 141 is pushing it for me. He insisted I'd be better at that weight so I'm still trying to make that weight. After today, I just don't feel the passion and drive that I once felt in highschool to do better. I don't feel the need to try so hard and be the best. I'm not sure if it's the weight cutting that finally got to me or what but I just don't feel it.
I stand at 5 foot 4 by the way
Any help and or advice is appreciated
I am currently a sophomore in high school and last year I wrestled too. I have basics down but I feel like my skills are lacking. I’m a short, chubby, Mexican dude and despite weight classes I feel undersized. I do intend to cut to a healthier weight but currently I wrestle 190 at 5’2. Last year I didn’t win a single match and I want to work on being better. I would love any advice on cutting weight healthily and or techniques that might help me during the season. I want to win a match this year and I would love any advice available.
Who do you think will win?
Hey all, for context I started training jiu jitsu and kickboxing this summer and I am training to compete in MMA. I want to learn wrestling but unfortunately where I live there is nowhere to learn it. Is there any good websites or YouTube channels or anything I can do to really learn high level wrestling remotely?
I know that you can get a leg lace from almost every takedown position. But which one has the highest entry rate to the leg lace.

In Freestyle if a player gets taken down and goes to their belly to prevent the fall, is there any incentive in the rules for him/her to build up to a tripod stance to aim to get back to feet, in the same way as in Follstyle? Or is it preferable to stay flat and wait to get reset ?
The concept isn't new to me prior to joining my team but now that I'm actually here, it feels intimidating thinking of losing the pounds. As when MY coach talks about when HE was in high school, he'd see his friends spit in bottles and eat low cal foods.
For ref I'm 5'2 ans I'm kinda embarrassed. A little of the heavy side so I wanna come here for help Genuinely asking
The kids love that YouTube. What are some good wrestling youtube channels that I can share with my middle school girls and boys teams? I follow Cayden Henschel who I think has great content. Any others that y’all know of? Thanks
I’m going into my second year wrestling and despite being the same weight class I feel undersized. I wrestle 190 at 5’2 is there any tips? What techniques and/or moves would be beneficial to learn?
Hello beginner folkstyle wrestler here, I’ve noticed whenever I shoot my double. I’m either too close or I’m too far away from them. Is there anything that I use to know the correct distance on where to shoot.
I am 15,157,6'4 and it's my first year doing wrestling and I don't know if it would be better to stay at my current weight but not make varsity(the other 157 is a tank) or try to bulk up to around 165(another first year).
Currently the ones I watch for this stuff are Zain rethorford and Ethan Lizak. Who else is out there I could watch. Or learn from?
The system in which America produces international wrestlers is outdated and flawed?
I'm may get donw-voted to hell for this but it need ot be discussed.
Hi! It’s my 2nd season wrestling, first day of preseason. My problem is that I get so focused in wrestling, for example in lives when Im on top or bottom I feel like i am being almost frantic, like high on adrenaline, trying my hardest to like escape or keep them down which resulted in different ligaments of both leg feeling off when I extend and pull up. How do I gain awareness and stop being so focused that I injure myself.
Jus saw vito get teched, another Japanese wrestler destroying a top US wrestler..
I’m a complete beginner. We were learning some arm throws, which worked wonderful during the drills, but when we spar and I try to hit said moves, my hands slip and I can’t hold a grip… I have very small hands for a male, but strong grip due to rock climbing. I can’t seem to hold a grip😭.
Hello beginner folkstyle wrestler here, I’m wondering if whenever someone turtle up; like flat on their back and hiding their wrists. What exactly can I do? I get that they’re stalling but during practices some of the other beginners dont get that and even when I remind them they’re still doing it. So I’m just wondering if there’s anything at all to get to the pin from there.
