Don't be a jerk! This sub's goal is to be a place of wrestling discussion and support. We want to grow the sport of wrestling! Telling beginners "you suck" or being rude to outsiders/those not familiar with wrestling will not accomplish that goal. Feel free to joke and have fun, but know where the line is. Don't be derogatory— everyone here is human. Repeat offenders of this rule will be subject to ban. No racist, misogynist, homophobic or otherwise offensive material will not be tolerated.
No politics. Avoid all political/religious discussion or threads unless it's directly related to wrestling - and keep it civil!

I’ve been training consistently for about 7 months and my ear is starting to feel a bit unusual, it hurts when I touch it and after training it is squishy and I can feel som liquid but the next morning it feels hard and pretty normal again, is this something to drain?
I have a tournament next week and I wanted to know if the hammer throw (i.e. having an underhook and overhook grip locked up and stepping into them and turning while falling to throw) is legal in regular folkstyle. I was wondering because other throws like the lat drop are legal in folkstyle, but the suplex isn’t.
I'm a first year wrestler in 9th grade. I've been going to practice for about 2 weeks now, and during practice I can do the techniques and conditioning but when it comes to wrestling live I have no idea what to do. How am I supposed to just know what to do while someone else is wrestling me without having much time to think about it. Another thing is that i can do the techniques at the time in practice but I end up forgetting them within the next day. In conclusion how can I get better?
So I started wrestling a few weeks ago, and I haven’t seen any foot sweeps. I thought this was weird because you see them a lot in judo, bjj, and Muay Thai. Is there a reason I shouldn’t be doing them?
Notes:
Results are based on conference and/or school websites through November 30, 2024
Click on the picture to see the entire list of standings (looks like ACC, Big Ten, and MAC are cut off on mobile)
During college football season and weekends on or around holidays, these might not come out right on Sunday morning (this week’s actually came out on Sunday morning!)
Let me know if you prefer a different formatting (ex: conferences colored)

I wrestled varsity freshman year because there was no one else in the weight class, but i sucked rlly bad. I only ever won one match and lost the rest without even much of a fight in each. As the season went on, i felt worse and worse about myself and that i was just disappointing our team and i ended up not continuing sophomore year. Now that im a junior i find myself really missing wrestling and wanting to continue, but im so afraid ill just disappoint everyone again. The new person is my weight class is good even though they just started last year, and i feel like i'll look like a total loser compared to them. I feel like if i join wrestling again, i'll just disappoint my team again and it'll be embarassing for me since im a junior and no longer new to wrestling
Pop your retainers in after not wearing them for a long time. Trust me you won’t even want to eat.
Hello, I'm a 16-year-old guy with the dream of becoming an MMA fighter. Like most people here on Reddit, I want to know how I can go to Dagestan to train there. I don't want to stay for just a short period; I'd like to spend at least six months training and improving my skills. I saw a video of a camp where Khabib, his family, and friends trained when someone had a fight scheduled. Does anyone know where this camp is located or of any other camps for fighters? If anyone can help me, I will be eternally grateful and will definitely remember and reward you when I become a UFC champion.
Besides the obvious being Jordan Burroughs who has an amazing double to study. I do like burroughs style but I want to see some other wrestlers with good doubles as well.
Thanks yall
No idea if this is normal, I joined wrestling for the first time as a freshman in highschool. I’ve had little to none daily exercise or working out till I joined this year which was on the 15th and went to practice / conditioning up till the 22nd. Is it normal for my legs to still be sore? I feel like I pulled or tore something but I don’t know and know if there’s a good way to check. Lmk some thoughts! Asking here bc wrestling practice is quite difficult and wondering if I was going through the same thing alone.
Next week by Thursday I have to be at 144. As of now I am floating around 150/151. I am planning to practice Wensday and be at around 148/149, get home and sweat the remaining 4lbs in a sauna and sleep any other remaining weight off. Are there any other ideas that you have instead of loosing 4 lbs in a sauna whilst already being dehydrated from practice? Thanks.
During your wrestling career what has been the highest rank you have been? Have you won states before? I’m curious how good some of the wrestlers actually are on this sub.
I am girl. This is my 4th season wrestling. My first season ended very early due to an injury but these other 2 seasons have not been successful. I have barely won any matches and have a ton of losses. I'm skinny and unfit. Everyone is stronger than me so lately I've been lifting and getting stronger but its not enough. I feel pathetic. I gas out too fast and get out of breath easily. I dont eat properly. I struggle with an eating disorder. These last few seasons, I've struggled on and off with restrictions. I dont cut weight since im at the lowest weight class. I'm finally getting the help I need and i just recently started to eat better which will take time to see physical results. I dont want to repeat the same mistake like the last couple of seasons. I want to be a decent wrestler. I hate losing to new girls. Mentally its all so hard. I'm already struggling with my eating and I feel so discouraged. I wrestled with a teammate who weighs 15lbs more and i lost. I'm sick of it, i dont want to give up. I'm gonna keep trying, I want this to be my year.
I thought I was gonna win today, I got a pin in my first match, then won 11-1 and lost to the girl in finals 3-2. I’m trying to not get down and be happy with it, but it sucks. I hope everyone has a good season and good luck with everything this year btw.
Every high school wrestler has to wrestle after school after a long day, and they often feel tired. What are some ways wrestlers can avoid feeling tired after school and be ready to wrestle and perform better?
Who do you think would win have they already wrestled and I didn’t know? Do you think the results would be different in folkstyle
so i have a mouthguard that i use at tournaments but my mom has been saying i should be using it during practice. do you guys think i should just listen to her and wear it during practices or should i just continue doing what i normally do? (i genuinely dunno if i should or not 💀)
I thought I would share some of my experiences as a female ref working both high school and NCAA folkstyle. I also will add I am one of three females actively working these tournaments. Now as far wrestling the biggest difference has been the drop down stall counts. For me this is where I have had the biggest mistakes thus far. Not just recognizing its happening but the timing of when to start the count and who initiated the action. I spoke to a few coaches about this and I learned some coaches don't understand it either. Its like they know its there and at some point you have to start the count but when is the right time to start the count. Now I haven't done any high profile tournament in folkstyle yet mainly due to me not jiving well with the HS politics of folkstyle but I have been lucky enough to do some open college tournaments and I will say some are tougher than others. I generally get yelled at more the farther north I go. And surprisingly I don't feel like coaches treat me different because I am a female ref. I do feel more pressure to get the call right, more pressure to be in the right spot on the mat and when I do screw up I have had some coaches discuss the one bad call I made. I got booed three weekends ago for two stall calls that I made back to back. (I.e the shoelaces untied and the flee). Overall it's been a great experience to watch superior wrestling. Not having to call so many penalty points is easier on me. Its def a dog eat dog world. Everyone wants to be on Big10 tv and I feel like everyone is light years ahead of me as far as experience but at the end of the day I am grappling nerd who likes to recreate the moves I saw in jiujitsu.
I hate pre match nerves I have even thought of quitting because of them every time it feels like I am about to have a panic attack I was just wondering does everyone else also have this too

Im a sophomore and i had wrestling practice yesterday. We were going live and I kept trying to do takedowns like shooting for the legs or throwing their arm around me and going behind but they kept blocking it. So I literally just grabbed their shoulders and kinda spun around and pulled them down to the mat and then straddled them on their back. Am I allowed to do that? Nobody said anything but I don't think that's an actual move. Help
The phrase "cutting weight" triggers the auto delete function. At this time of the year we get a ton of posts asking about cutting weight. The consensus among he moderators of this forum is that cutting weight is dangerous and generally counter productive to good wrestling.
The auto delete function will remain, but when deleted posts pop up in my mod toolbox I will put them back if the weight cut is less then the generally recognized as safe 3%, and within a reasonable time frame (at least several days). That means, for example, if you are wrestling 150 and need to lose 4 lbs in 3-4 days your post will stand. However a 7 lb cut will be deleted because we don't want to encourage such behavior.
Again this policy may be overturned by other mods but is the measure I am currently using.
Does anyone else get stomach cramps every practice? Any suggestions to fix it
