Only the 2nd doubles loss of the season for AO doubles champion Katerina (1st was SF loss at Adelaide, with Ellen Perez) - From here, the pair heads to different tournaments: Katerina is only participating in the Transylvania Open singles (5th seed, and to open against qualifier), while Zhang Shuai continues her pairing with Kristina Mladenovic at Abu Dhabi (4th seed team)
Babos & Stefani will contest for the title against the (3) Kichenok sisters
Damn high levels for a ATP 500
Really rough start to the year for Reddit's favorite player and this was his worst loss yet to an 18-year-old ranked at #1386 in the world. Hopefully he can get through this stretch, given that he was playing much better tennis not too long ago (even made it through qualifying at the US Open). However, some of it might just be age finally catching up to him.
4 of us want to attend BNP Paribas tournament in the desert on May 8 (Sat) or May 10. My husband and I are big tennis fans but our friends just want to have the experience but donβt follow tennis. Tickets are very expensive. Should we just get grounds passes and take our chances at seeing good tennis? I notice it does not provide access to Stadium 1 - even if we buy nosebleed tickets, they will be in the several hundred dollars. Is it worth it? Ground tix provide access to unreserved seats in Stadiums 2-9. Are there actually unreserved seats to be had?
Kovacevic will play Auger-Aliassime in the final. A very good run from the American qualifier continues.
A tough qualifying draw for Zeynep as she defeats Taylor and will face ZarazΓΊa for a chance to enter the main draw in Abu Dhabi. Her last meeting against ZarazΓΊa last year at the Merida Open was a close encounter with the Turk prevailing in three sets. Expect another close match tomorrow.
Taylor still doesn't look fully recovered from her AO doubles triumph.
From 0-2 down after yesterday matches, Denmark have come back and won their tie.
France take a 2-0 lead in this tie.
Auger-Aliassime will play Rublev or Kovacevic in the final. He is into his second final of the year.
I remember Federer being dominant. Not just dominant in the number of matches he won, but by how much he would often win those matches (he still has the best W-L season ratio of his generation AFAIK).
Anyone else remember Patrick McEnroe's "Federer Fun House" graphic showing all the players he had beaten up?
I don't think I've seen that kind of dominance except by Nadal on clay.
I went looking for raw data and did a little analysis to roughly calculate how dominant top players are over opponents. Not an exact science...and the data only goes to 2016. But the numbers match up with what we already know about the big 3 and other top players.
Matches won by 6 games or more:
Federer: 548
Nadal: 487
Djokovic: 430
(Agassi: 413)
(Ferrer: 371)
(Murray: 342)
(Roddick: 249)
probably gonna catch hell for even posting this. fight me
Alexandrova will play Yastremska in the final.
Davis Cup Qualifiers R1: Humbert (FRA) def. Fonseca (BRA), 7-5 6-3
Rune brings Denmark level at 2-2. This tie will come down to a deciding singles match.
