10 month golf journey here’s a 5 iron. Just like sharing my swings on here. Mid baseball season so a bit over the top but not bad.
Have any body been on a golf trip to South Africa or planning on going?
If you have any, can you please provide more feedback and include some information about locations and courses
I am a 10 handicap. Just posted on Reddit a few days ago to get some tips on how to score better and play smarter as I’ve recently been scoring some big numbers (low 90s). I recently played my local course and shot +2 (74). Some learnings: 1) regripped my clubs (MCC align) and they felt v snug in my hands 2) arrived early enough to hit the range simulating the first hole couple times 3) got paired with a bunch of retired folks who didn’t give a fck how slow they were playing; since I knew I wasn’t speeding them up I took a practice swing and really took my time visualizing every shot (even backing off of a driver on some holes which I never do) 4) focused on low and follow thru’ing left on my irons while sitting during impact 5) hit 13 GIRs and most of that was just getting my tee shot in the fairway 6) played from whites instead of blues (my driver usually goes 230-250y) - is this primarily why I shot so low? Felt nice grabbing 9, W, Gap vs 567 irons for second shot 7) short backswing and shorter follow through as helped me hit my lines better in putting . This is an unorganized splatter of thoughts - I’m just on cloud 9. And I’ve been replaying my round the last few days. I just was also very very calm. Didn’t sweat (walked 18 holes) and was never in a rush.
Hope I can replicate this round. Shot +2 a few months ago. Next round shot a 96.
$35 a round with a state ID, thought it was worth a share
I'm a push cart (caddytek) and ride type of player. I have a soft insulated cooler, but I'd like a golf bag that I can fit 8-10 beers and ice in. For those who put ice in their golf bag, does it ever leak into the other pockets or ruin the bag?
I'm looking at:
Cobra aerojet irons 2023 5i-gap wedge, right shaft for me and lie angle changed for previous owner which also fits me - used 3 or so times, retails for $1,300 but selling to me for $670.
Current cobra darkspeed driver for $590 and comes with free fairway/3wood (retails for $390)
All up cost $1,300 usd, retails for $2280 usd
Would also need to sort out putter and bag unless I use previous old sets one.

Just got my clubs regripped with MCC+4s at my local golf shop. When I got home I realized they weren’t perfectly aligned. Obviously they aren’t ribbed grips so it’s more of a cosmetic issue. But is this worth taking back and showing them? I spent over $200 regripping 13 clubs so I expected them to all be straight at the least. Let me know, as this was my first time getting my clubs regripped.
Here's my pickle. I currently game a 30 year old set of Titleist DCI black irons. I'm a new golfer, 4 years in. 38 years old. I'm new to breaking 100 on the course. At this point i'm hitting my irons fairly well with a reasonably solid and repeatable swing. I want to upgrade these old clubs to a new set of Takomo 101 irons.
I don't want a fitting yet.
My current DCI iron shafts are Titleist Tri Spec Stiff flex shafts from the 1990's. They are 118 grams. The clubs are traditional lofts which are higher lofted than equivalent Takomo clubs. 7 iron loft on my DCIs is 36 degrees for instance, compared to 30 degrees on the Takomos. It's a club length difference.
Takomo offers a Regular flex KBS Tour shaft at 120g (close to current weight but lighter flex), A KBS Tour Stiff flex at 130g, (same flex but quite a bit heavier) and a KBS C-taper lite Stiff flex at 118.5g. (Same weight and flex, but advertises a high ball flight, which I'm already getting with higher lofted clubs).
What should I do here? I'm looking for more distance and forgiveness, but I want to hold a green.
Current carry with traditional lofted 7 iron is 150-160 yds on a solid strike. Tempo is fairly smooth. I don't muscle it unless I'm having fun.
I appreciate that the correct answer is to get a fitting, but I'm not there yet. Looking for anecdotes and conversation right now.
Ping g10 5/9 iron 7/8 iron idek what they are, Ping g25 driver, and a 52 degree, 6 iron and hybrid and wood on the way
Hey everyone! I’m looking to book a golf lesson as a gift and want to find a top-tier instructor—someone really gold standard, whether that’s a highly rated pro, an elite coach, or a former tour player who gives lessons. The lesson could be anywhere in California or Arizona. (open to other states as well)
Does anyone have recommendations for a truly standout instructor or golf academy? Bonus points if they specialize in helping intermediate/advanced players refine their game!
Thanks in advance!

Like many amateur golfers, I’ve got pretty decent contact but very little power and clubhead speed. I’ve been told by a few more experienced guys that the key to that explosive power is utilizing ground force.
I’ve seen this described a bunch of different ways from twisting your feet a certain way, to push pushing off of one heel and then the other heel, to a sort of squat and jump.
So I guess I’m curious if there’s anything like the definitive guide to ground force that helped you develop the right feels. It all happens so fast in the downswing, is tough to really actively train that component.
What do you recommend as a used game improvement iron set that is less than $400? I want something with steel shafts over 100 grams
Saw a greenskeeper at my local muni cruising on an electric scooter, which got me thinking… Could an electric scooter + Sunday bag be the new meta for walking rounds? Less weight, more speed, no cart fees. Anyone tried this, or do most courses shut it down?”
I’m currently looking to buy a new set of wedges. I would like to buy the new wedges with the same shafts as my irons. However I would like to save some money by buying last years model, but with a specific shaft. I’m trying to do this but it seems you can only select a specific shaft if you are buying the current model. Has anybody ever managed to do what I’m trying? If so could you clue me in on how?
Preface - I’ve been to Bandon a few times since 2013. I’ve been in all parts of the year from peak summer (August) to the winter (December-January).
Their booking and reservations have become nothing short of comical. You have to 1. register to enter a random drawing, 2. Be selected from said random drawing, 3. Put into a queue (who knows how many), and 4. Hope that when you are finally called, there is availability for the dates you want to go.
I’m sure in the next few years (if not already) there will be a whole cottage industry of buying and selling reservations through brokers or vacation booking companies. This has rubbed me the wrong way. I understand the popularity of the place, but it discards any semblance of customer loyalty or appreciation.
Also, with the rates continuing to increase, it’s about the same cost to travel to Scotland and play 6-8 courses over the same period of time. I understand you can book tee times if you are not staying on property, but there is a $100 per round premium, and you can’t play before 10:00AM, which limits your ability to play 36 holes (unless you want to eat at 9:00PM).
This was my favorite place on earth to go play golf (that I have visited), and now, it has sadly lost its allure for me. Just a bummer really.
I see a lot of mixed reviews on Club Champion fittings. I got fit back in December for a whole bag minus the putter. I had no budget, no club preference, and just wanted to get into whatever I hit best. After a decade hiatus, I started playing again in October 2023 and told myself I would get a proper fitting once I got into single digit HCP. Got to a 9 within a year and decided it was time.
Overall the experience was great. We split it up over 3 days starting with irons, and a fairway wood, then hybrid and wedges, and lastly the driver. Once all was said and done I remained in my Ai Smoke Triple Diamond 9° N/S but added an Accra GX260 M5 shaft, Titleist G2 15° 3 wood with Accra GX200F M5, Ping G430 3 19° hybrid with a Accra GX200H M5, Ping i230 4-PW standard lofts bent 2° upright with Accra iSeries 115 hard stepped, and Ping S159 50 SB 12°, 54 H grind 10°, 58 H grind 8° all bent 2° upright all with Accra iSeries 120 wedge shafts. I did not do puring on the irons and wedges (although they ended up doing the wedges for free anyways for some reason) but they do pure the shafts for free on all your fairway woods/hybrids.
Once I got the clubs everything looked great except some of the ferrules weren’t wiped correctly with acetone and looked matte in spots. Also a little extra glue residue on some of the iron and wedge shaft hosels. Not a big deal. Took everything out and the driver, 3 wood, and hybrid were perfect right out of the gate. I’ve never hit more consistent drives, been able to hit a 3 wood so good off the deck, or had a hybrid that was so point and shoot. The irons and wedges though had a constant wayward left miss that I was never used to seeing. Played about 20 rounds with them and some range sessions and continued to see the left miss. I had no confidence with the irons and the toe looked way too upright. I scheduled a lifetime lie and loft adjustment (pretty sweet deal) and they adjusted the lie 1° more flat. We looked at data from my fitting and my path had gone from a consistent 2° out to in to a 2-3° in to out. I’ve been really working on my swing to get more neutral and be able to work the ball both ways. It’s amazing how that 1° lie angle difference completely changed the way the club looked and it immediately took that wayward left miss away. Everything totaled out to $4700. Yeah I know, not cheap, but I didn’t get any factory option shaft. Every shaft was premium upgrade. The fitting was free though. I also compared the price of the shafts they were giving me to the price of the shafts in other stores and they were the same as any other retailer. They weren’t pulling a fast one on me anywhere. However, they do charge $40 per shaft install which I think should be included. they do have to make sure all the swing weights are to build specs, but I still think that’s a lot of money to put clubs on a scale and then glue them in.
The guys that I worked with were from two different stores. I got fitted when I was on vacation in Texas visiting family. Then had the lie adjustment done back home in Florida. They have each build profile saved so they know exactly what to look for. Both of the guys have been extremely helpful and professional throughout the whole process. I went from hitting super low spin knuckling 2023 P790 that were just no good for me to clubs that just check all the boxes for my game. Except for the shaft install fees, that’s the only negative thing I can say. Maybe it’s because it’s the first time I’ve ever been fit, but I’ve never hit clubs and had them perform like this. See the pic for how optimal that PW performs. I’d say they did their damn job and would recommend them to anyone.
Club builders out there: do you find your customer have more success with jumbo or midsize grips or adding more wraps. Bryson led the charge of the influence, and it seems as getting larger in your grip can help accuracy and hand fatigue. Club builders , what say you ?
First 9 with the clicgear today, I might turn my back on the carts! 🚗
