Someone mentioned Emmanuel Augustus in an old thread about Ben Whittaker. Having no idea who he was, I've come to find his fight with Micky Ward and absolute banger worth sharing.

If Jake Paul didn't have power then he would be nowhere in the boxing world.

Now obviously everyone and their mother knows that Jake Paul will never be a cruiserweight world champion, but that's not what I'm referring to. What I mean is that if he didn't have power, he wouldn't even have beaten probably half of his OWN opponents he's faced.

His power sure seemed to be a great get out of jail free card in the 6th round where he was arguably down on the scorecards in his rematch with Tyron Woodley, so his power definitely benefited his hype train.

And it's not just that one-punch KO moment type of power too, in all of his fights that went the distance or went several rounds, it seemed like his opponents were cautious of his power and knew what could potentially come back and flatten them if they pressured Jake a little too much. Power is also a mentally taxing thing for your opponent, so when people say that there was a "no knockout clause" in any of Jake's fights because his opponent looked like they were too hesitant, maybe that's why lmao.

Day 13 of glazing a boxer: Ernesto Mercado

An undefeated 22 year old American prospect with a record of 16-0, is a very accomplished amateur boxer with a amature record of 278-11 and accomplishments like WBA Continental Americas Gold Champ, NABA Gold Super Lightweight Champ.

Mercado is an offensive machine who has no fear in letting his hands fly where he has some heavy hands to accommodate that, but he manages distance well, has great defence, sets counters very well and has great reflexes to help with that.

He displayed a versatile jab and managed distance very well using his quick reflexes to dodge or step back to change angles or send a check hook or lead them into a counter cross. He has quick hands and sets combinations off the jab really quickly and his speed and slickness does help him to do that.

He does occasionally drop his lead hand but relies on his reflexes to step back and counter with check hooks or crosses or dodge and change angles. He does have a high punch output and throws a lot of punches and usually succeeds because he has some amazing reflexes and speed to give and escape but still be in firing range.

He’s very active, fighting his 4th fight of the year which is scheduled to be against Jesus Saracho on the 9th of November on the Ennis vs Karen card.

Suppose you're watching a boxing match, blue side lands 50 power punches, but the red side lands 100 jabs, who won the fight?

My personal opinion, the blue side might've landed hard 50 times, but they still suffered twice as many strikes, the name of the game is to hit and not get hit, not hit and not get hit hard. The only thing which ultimately matters is if the strike landed and how many times you were able to do so. Because if they were able to find 100 instances to land a jab, then they also found almost 100 instances to land something hard. So, if they had that availability at hand, it matters not what shot landed, but that a shot landed... that your defense was exposed. Far more often than you could expose theirs, whether it was light or not. Because if it was so easy to frequently land the lighter punches you would have, but you couldn't, because their defense was too sound. Each one of those 50 heavy punches could have been a light punch instead, so if you could have landed those 50 light punches couldn't you have just landed 50 more. No, you couldn't, because they were the better boxer.

Who is the best heavyweight Canelo could beat?

Say Usyk walks fury and they both retire. The belts scattered to guys like Ruiz, Chisora, and AJ.

Who is the best heavyweight Canelo could have even a chance of beating? AJ has looked so lost in every major fight he's on lately and it got me thinking could Saul Alvarez chin him?

Why did Frazier lose to Ali?

I am fairly new to boxing but I am really curious about this topic. Joe Frazier's work ethic seemed really inspiring and he seemed to be a much harder worker. Especially considering Ali's remarks about him after having helped Ali so much would have ignited the fuel in him to work to defeat him even more. So what was it that made Frazier lose to Ali in the subsequent matches after the 1971 "Match of the Century". Ik Ali is considered as the greatest but in accordance to various clips about his usual routines imo I don't think it compared to how much Frazier trained? I am really sorry if this sounds stupid but I am bent on knowing about it.

Fighters who switched up their style in old age?

I think it’s very interesting to see how fighters adapted their style to their hand speed and reaction time getting slower, not being able to take as much damage, being less mobile, etc all due to age. I guess the most prominent person being Floyd going from offensive buzzsaw to defensive first fighter once his hands became brittle. And a fighter who never adapted like Roy Jones is also interesting to look at.

Lewis Williams - this kid has a great jab!

Just watched the highlights. He has a very sharp jab, and some good skills.

I know it’s his first professional fight, but he does have good amateur pedigree having won gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

He is 6ft 7 and is in great shape physically. Looking forward to see more of this kid!

Anyone else know much about him?

Why is there a vocal minority waving the flag for Murodjon Akhmadaliev as if he’s been some bogeyman in the super bantamweight division? Look at his history. I don’t get it.

🇺🇿Murodjon Akhmadaliev:

The forgotten champion with a 100% KO ratio.

With the conclusion of Dmitry Bivol vs Artur Beterbiev, the Light Heavyweight King currently has a record of 21-0 with 20KOs and Bivol being the only one to hear the end of the 12th round. A 95.24% KO ratio is still a big deal in boxing today, but there was one boxer in particular that has a record of 27-0 with a 100% KO ratio and was regarded as a wasted potential for others.

The boxer I'm speaking of is called Edwin Valero, a Venezuelan professional boxer and he has a few aliases that fit his style in boxing:

1.El Inca ("The Inca") 2.El Dinamita ("The Dynamite") 3.El Terminator 4.The Liquidator

With a 18 1st round KO streak, he was a southpaw whose style is similar Manny Pacquiao, highly aggressive fighting style and exceptional punching power. He is a two weight division champion, he won the WBA Super Featherweight in August 2006 and the WBC Featherweight in April 2009.

Tragically, in a motorcycle accident that led to him having a brain injury, he returned to fight in the ring after a long recovery but it would be only short as each time he recieved getting hit, his brain injury would return. This prompt Valero to retire early on his career to ensure the safety of his physical wellbeing but this led to him having mental issues that have caused him to be arrested for the suspicion of killing his own wife. After then, he ended his own life in jail as his mental wellbeing has reached it's limit.

However, some debunked that theory when a documentary video and a book about Edwin Valero's life speaks of another perspective in his demise:

"Edwin Valero was MURDERED. He was found hanging naked in his cell with a crumpled picture of his family inside his mouth. Upon their arrival at the intercontinental hotel Mr. & Mrs. Valero approached the front desk and asked for their suite to be searched before checking in. Holding an attache case containing $90000 Valero made it clear that he and his wife had been followed by a mysterious vehicle from Caracas to Valencia. Mr. & Mrs. Valero were assured by security that their suite was secure. The next morning Valero awoke to the grisly sight of Mrs. Valero who had been stabbed to death. Valero having lost consciousness had no recollection prior to the horrific morning awakening. Dazed and confused Valero went downstairs to the front desk and announced that his wife had been killed by an unknown intruder. Mr. Valero was arrested and detained. Police were unable to recover a murder weapon. Interestingly enough Valeros attache case had mysteriously vanished. Security cameras were not working. During his interview with police Valero made it clear he had been stalked pursued and ultimately framed for the murder of his wife. Edwin Valero was discovered dead by apparent suicide. He was taken and buried with his name sullied as a wife murdering coward. The general public seemed more than content with the official story of the psychotic husband murder suicide but the logistics of this case were too obvious to ignore. Years later Valeros body was finally exhumed and the findings were earth shattering. The autopsy revealed that the cause of death was NOT from suicide by asphyxia which immediately discredited the narrative that he took his own life. Closer examination showed that Mr.Valero had ingested an unknown substance that exploded his lungs."

Quite sad that a fighter like Edwin Valero has to go out like that but he still remained in WBC history as the only boxer to win every fight in his by KO.

What about you guys? Have you ever heard of Edwin Valero? Would the non-existent of the brain injury made Valero better? Could he have become someone different if the bad people weren't in his way? Comment below on your thoughts about this topic.

Funfact: Edwin Valero is seen in an old video of Manny Pacquiao's Birthday where he and David Diaz were invited.

[Post Fight Discussion] Robson Conceicao vs O' Shaquie Foster 2

As much as this was a much better match for both fighters, I'm pretty sure most seen that this was purely the WBC righting their wrong for the last fight. That being said, I'm not sure Foster did enough this fight to deserve the dub.

In the previous fight Conceicao was clearly the aggressor, as he continued to press the fight foward. Regardless, Shaq, fighting off the back foot, against the ropes, definetly was way more defensively sound, and landed way more clean shots, while taking little to no damage and it was easily an 8-4 if not 9-3 fight in favor of Foster.

That being said, this fight was much different. From the start of the first round it was clear that it was a battle for the center of the ring with Robson being the better fighter. Stylistically I feel this is where Conceicao shined brightest, having the better jab and working the over/under worked great until the 10th when he got rocked . Unable or unwilling to finish, Foster allowed Conceicao to recover, leading to a competitive last 2 rounds.

I just didn't see enough in the 11th or 12th round to have given Foster the win. Personally I had him down 5 points going into the 10th and had Conceicao up 1 point after the final bell rang. I could have even seen a draw... but there was nothing in this fight that gave way to the Foster majority decision.

I do feel both fighters massively improved over their last bout, but it doesn't change the fact that the first fight was awarded to the wrong fighter, as well as this one.

I would love to see the trilogy, even though I'm sure it's not going to happen.

If i missed something please let me know in the comments even if it is just to agree that you would like to see a final rematch between both fighters or how I am dead wrong, I would love to hear it.

Day 12 of glazing a boxer: Emiliano Vargas

Vargas is a 140lb prospect. He was a fairly successful amateur with a record of 120-10 and a 7x national champ.

Idk how to truly describe his style but very balanced and well-rounded attributes. He has a great jab, he’s pretty slick, he's comfortable on the inside, he moves very well, has some speed, power, athleticism and he can find counters pretty well.

He has a fairly wide base with a decent jab, an alright guard and great timing intercepting counters, whether it’s a step back check hook, splitting the jab with a cross and is able to be slick enough to escape. Even on midrange he’s great at intercepting shots and when infighting, he uses a high guard, can rip quick body shots and get counters off of that and evade/escape using a good high guard and head movement/evasiveness to avoid shots. A very complete fighter with a bright future ahead of him.
