I've always been curious about this, whenever he's discussed online everyone says he definitely, which makes a lot of sense as there was a lot of foreshadowing, but from what I've seen the creators explicitly say there is no right answer? All I've heard is that it can be up to audience interpretation, and infected you could use all the signs of his death as ways to point to how this is a rebirth, and the fact weve honestly seen spike go through injuries as bad as these if not worse. Listen I know all signs point to him being dead but I have an unhealthy attachment to this series and Spike, so I choose to take advantage of the open ending to say everyone ended up okay. Also just kinda wondering why everyone ignores the fact that people can interpret the ending differently and just say he has to be dead. (Pls dont yell at me honestly just curios and wanting to ive been dying to discuss cowboy bebop with anyone)
i wanted to compile some songs that are referenced in cowboy bebop. i loveee finding connections with characters through music so i’d appreciate any addons. i understand the whole concept is based around music but i wanted to get specific!!!
in the first manga volume there’s a chapter called “cheap trick” in which a character is referred to as a ‘nowhere man’. spike connects it to the beatle’s song of the same name.
in the second manga volume there’s a chapter called “like a rolling stone”. there’s a few chapters named after songs/bands that don’t have any connection to the title but the bob dylan song “like a rolling stone” gets explicitly mentioned.
the first edition cowboy bebop blu-ray box is the cover of crosby, stills, nash & young’s “deja vu” replaced with the character’s likeness. this is probably my favorite on the list :))
definitely common knowledge at this point but jet’s nickname shares a name with the led zepplin song “black dog”.
julia’s name was taken from a beatle’s song of the same name.
many manga chapter names seem to be based off of songs/bands, including “it’s showtime” (possibly the david lee roth song??), “we will rock you”, “cheap trick”, “black diamond” (this could be from kiss or the replacements, i prefer to think it’s the replacements), “she’s a rainbow”, “like a rolling stone”, and “fight for your right”.
show episodes include “honky tonk woman”, “sympathy for the devil”, “toys in the attic”, “bohemian rhapsody”, “speak like a child” (may be a stretch?), “wild horses”, “hard luck woman”, and of course, “the real folk blues”.
while the show is obviously based on jazz it also has a lot of rock influences. there’s a lot of beatles, rolling stones, and kiss (if any of this is actually accurate at not just a coincidence).
I didn't notice any songs from the anime in it, but there is that similar funk in the songs!

He used to be a cop working for a corrupt police force that was bought off by crime syndicates, yet he befriended a guy who used to work in a syndicate and trusted him enough to room with him.
When they met prior to the events of the show, Spike must've proven somehow that he was trustworthy, and Jet must've been open-minded to whatever struggles Spike must've had in crime and poverty.
Jet never seemed to judge Spike for where he came from even though he had the moral high ground. He argued with Faye because she freeloaded off of them, but it seemed like Spike was responsible enough to hold up his end of the bargain because they never had that issue.
Funnily enough, I read a fanfiction once about Spike and Jet going to prison because Jet apparently housed a criminal on his ship. They bring up that a couple of years ago, Spike might've been the person Jet would've had to arrest. It put some tension between them in the fanfic that never came up in the series. In my opinion, it was well-written and felt a lot like the show.
I have the same birthday as Spike. I understand his feelings perfectly. He hates women, children, and animals because he loves them and being around them reminds him of how much pain he feels deep down. He loves Faye --- though maybe not as a love interest since he belongs to Julia. I would compare his love for Faye to his love of Ed and Ein. He loves her like a child. He loves children. Cancers are very home and family centered. Animals are like children. He gives them all a hard time because a) he is a tough guy bounty hunter ex gang member and because b) he's been hurt before and fears genuinely bonding with them. Every time he gets close to someone, something traumatic happens to them. If he outright hated them then they would be gone. Jet wouldn't sacrifice his professional business relationship over a girl and some cute little monsters. The Bebop crew wouldn't have held together as long as it did if they weren't like a real family.
They couldn't stay together because Spike, Faye, and Ed all needed to find themselves. Jet was their rock and I suspect he'll be someone else's rock after they split ways. He was already grown up. Faye and Ed will get there. As for Spike, he's with Julia. They finally awoke from their dream.
Just wanted to share this cover I did with you guys. Really enjoyed playing it. :)
Just watched it for the first time, I downloaded it to watching it while I don't have electric power (I'm from Venezuela) so it had all my attention, and yeah, the tittle, what a fucking MASTERPIECE 🔥
