Yup
So recently i have been looking into Takasugi's clothing/appearance and wanted to share what i found and what i think of it.
First I want to start with his kimono in the vol.12 cover.
I am fairly certain that the kimono he wears is based off of this one, the most noticeable feature is the palm tree leaves (the og also has chrysanthemum) . I think that this design is very beautiful, but it was only animated in some scenes (in an OP there's 2 seconds of him wearing it). https://bunka.nii.ac.jp/heritages/detail/574956 <-- link to the kimono
About his haori, The arabesque swirl is called "Karakusa" and it is of a plant/vine growing in a continuous pattern, the swirls are gold and the background is black.
Here's a pic of the karakusa pattern i have on a piece of cloth :
I quite like this pattern for its meaning of growth and legacy because of Takasugi being a disciple of Shoyo and his development in the story.
Its rarely shown in the anime but you can see him wear it a lot in official art and manga (all the way till SS arc). I wished that they animated the pattern in the fight in SA arc, but they usually just animate his haori plain black.
Now i want to talk about the kimono that Takasugi most often wears, as shown above and he wears this floral pattern kimono.
I found that this was a screen tone so I bought it for drawing reasons on clipstudiopaint but i want to go over what's shown in the pattern from bottom to top since i have it in higher quality. Ik these things are small details but i found it fun researching about these Japanese patterns.
The first section shows Sakura and Sakura petals in what i believe is either a sea of waves or wind.
The second section took me a while to find but here are the flowers/leaves/fruit that are shown: more Sakura's, Botan (peony), maple leaves, Tachibana fruit, (on the top left corner next to the peony there's something that I'm unable to identify but if you can please leave a comment below). All of these being in the clouds.
The third section has even more Sakura's and now with pine trees (Matsu)
Lastly the fourth section, butterflies flying in the mist (Kasumi) with a few Japanese patterns inside
https://polinacouture.com/en/meaning-japanese-patterns-flowers-animals-objects/ <--- this is the blog that helped me identify these patterns
I noticed that in the manga Sorachi only utilized the floral pattern for that kimono and not the butterflies, but I like that they did use the butterflies and mist in the anime and official art by Sorachi.
Although I like the floral design better, i also like the butterflies because it’s quite fitting for him because of its meaning
" The butterfly (蝶/Chō) symbolizes evolution, transformation (during the different stages of life) and longevity. It is also linked to death and spirits."
Sorachi colors this kimono three different ways red/crimson, blue, and purple. Red being the most common. (blue above)
When he wears this floral/butterfly kimono I'm pretty sure that It’s supposed to be the red color.
In a lot of the official art it’s often colored red, as a matter of fact he’s colored this crimson color in most art of him regardless of the kimono.
(excuse me if I use red and crimson interchangeably, they’re pretty close colors)
I think this color fits best because of its relation with love, anger, passion, revenge, and blood.
You don’t see this in the anime (until the final) but Takasugi has a much paler complexion compared to Gin.
Which I think is nice because it shows the contrast between them and also complements the red color.
I see that Sorachi colors his eyes either red or what I assume would be a very light green but it’s hard to tell (grey ??) maybe the red eyes are when his sharingan is activated.
About his bandage and it’s meaning, Sorachi answers in a qna.
Translated via Google translate so it might be a bit off but you get the point
Question:
"Hello, Teacher Sorachi!! I have a question! Takasugi was still wearing bandages during the Shogun Assassination episode, right? But when I fight with Gintoki, I keep taking off the bandages. Did you stop treating it because it was bothersome and it was a hassle to re-wrap it? Or are you not winding it again for poetic reasons? Please teach me!!"
Answer:
"Takasugi's bandage is, in a word, an expression of resentment, a curse. I will never forget this pain, and I will never forget what I saw with my eyes. That's why I put the lids on my empty eye sockets. I think the reason why the curse was removed was because Takasugi's fight reached a stage where the curse was lifted."
I find it very sad that Takasugi wore his bandage as a constant reminder to himself of what happened ... my heart❤️🩹
More on his kimono, I was looking into what kind/type of kimono he wears and I personally think that he wears a furisode specifically a Chu-furisode with it being medium length sleeves. Some Japanese fans think so too.
kind of random but i think his obi is cute lol 🎀
The outfit he wears in the joui era is called a jinbaori, i see many people confuse it with western attire but it is a traditional wear for samurai dating back to the 1500s.
The jinbaori he wears in the liberation army arc differs from the one in the joui era with it having sleeves , so yes he did grow out of it (or maybe he didn’t cuz if you scroll up a few pics you can see that in the limited vol cover it’s the same, so he just has different pairs(・_・;) .
This one is from the Kiheitai flashbacks in Altana Liberation Army arc.
The flowers on his haori are called Kikyo, which is very fitting because the flower is a symbol of honesty, and it shows with his speech with Matako and i suppose the flashbacks as a whole
This is the haori he wears SS and The Final ,it really got me confused, so i originally thought that this was another version of the palm tree leaves design because of the bottom but some people say that it might be a lotus, though it could be a lot of things.
There's also this spider web one he wears i don't know what chapter it was in and i don't have a good picture of it (if you do please post it in the comments).
A twitter artist had pointed out that Takasugi has 5 haori and 6 kimono designs in the manga, i talked about most of them here but some of the kimono's are just a solid color.
Anyways this is the end of this post, I really like Takasugi's design had a lot of fun researching about this, It was a bit hard to make this post cuz i had to cram as many photos as possible since the limit is 20.
Thank you for reading, I hope this was nice for Takasugi fans or people that were interested.💜
Saw someone do this so I thought Id try. I know im gonna get flamed for this but remember its just my opinion😭🫶
Hello it's been a while since I've watched the later seasons of Gintama and the ending movie, and to be honest I think I kind of blanked out on a lot of details during the end of it lmao. Like the whole Utsuro with multiple personalities, one of them is Gintoki's teacher, then Utsuro become a kid again, then people come after his heart, then finally in the final movie Takatsuki become a kid? And Utsuro absorb something call Altana from every planet right? I'm kinda confused about the whole thing lmao, can someone explain it in super simple terms?
Hello! The time has come to do a re-watch of the series..
BUT
this time I want to focus only on the MAIN story episode/arcs/movies.
Can you help me with a guide or something to which episode should I watch or which arcs if it's easier to follow only the "serious" main story?
Thanks!
Well, the dialogue was changed and used in the anime. I wanted to know your opinion about this dialogue. The cigarette smoke of an idiot with a hood is enough for me. Was this Gintoki's answer to Tsukuyo feelings, that their feelings are the same? Gintoki also has a crush on Teskuyo, or not
Ok guys, I'm gonna be honest, I think this one is the only right tierlist, not even joking
I personally didn't like strawberry milk since i was young. I thought it was sour, and i didn't like sourness mixed with my precious milk. i preffered plain old milk than anything else. chocomilk is the only one i technically accepted.
when i was watching ep11, i thought "Is it really that good?" since i didn't like strawberrymilk, it's been years since i last tasted one, when i was still a kid. i heard kids' taste change as they grow - "it might be a different taste by now". i've seen gin have so much passion for the drink, so i tried it once. yeah, it's still sour as ever (same brand). but it tasted a bit sweeter than i remember, so i reconsidered trying it again after a while later. that was like 4 months ago.
before i knew it, i was drinking it regularly. the sourness melted away with my hate. and i got to relate to gin whenever he blabbers about how strawberry milk is a divine drink. it's been a couple weeks since i finished the series. but even before then, i can't get over a week without consuming at least 3 packs. i love it now pretty much as i love plain milk.
am i a strawberry milky now? strawberry milky!
I understand it was pretty bad and most certainly didn’t hold a candle to the sub but I don’t understand why they stopped producing it. I can’t even recommend this to any of my dub only friends even knowing how peak it is.
Ep 74 btw
Just genuinely curious. It does have a lots of fight and space monsters, so why no fighting system
For reference, I am 21 but Im worried that the jokes are too nsfw for my friend. They are fine with dirty jokes but Im worried about it being considered inappropriate content to consume. Are there any particular episodes to skip or should I just not watch it with them?

I've generally heard that the manga was better for the rakyou arc so I wanted to see what people think of the rakyou arc in the anime. I personally thought that it was pretty good.
