TV Antenna Upper Valley?

Anybody here from the upper valley and use a TV Antenna? I’m wondering what your experiences are and what channels you get. I have a lot of neighbors that use them and haven’t had a chance to ask any of them yet.

I’ve heard the upper valley is a TV Antenna dead zone but that was years ago.

Anyone know the name of a Mediterranean restaurant/cafe in Colchester circa 2006ish?

I don't have much more to go on. That's about all I can remember. I did something as a youth that was harmful to them, and I would like to apologize to the owners and make things right if I can find them.

Thanks for any assistance.

Upper Valley ICE presence 2/03–2/05

I know others have posted some of this info; however, there is some additional context here as well as resources. Plus, just boost the shit out of it, am I right.

Posted and shared publicly on fb but unsure of the ethics, so I have removed the name.

Planning a last minute 30th birthday ski trip

Any suggestions for a ski trip in southern-ish Vermont somewhere with some sort of nightlife? At least a decent restaurant/ bar??

Independent mountains preferred but will consider really anything at this point….

Everyone who parked in the upper lot at Smuggs today…

I just wanted to thank y’all for the camaraderie and the humor. If you saw the driver of the pickup who’d blocked off the mouth of the exit lane with the back of their truck when they parked, you know exactly what I’m talking about. The commentary being exchanged in the lot and the numerous other visitors who took the time to educate the driver of their poor choices via the writing in the dirt on their truck was the greatest sense of public unity I’ve experienced in months. Love you guys.

T-Mobile in NEK

T-Mobile has a really good offer of four free iPhones, and $25 per line. We are in the Lyndonville area. Their coverage map shows, it’s awesome here, but in the past in different states, their maps did not match up with reality.

Does anyone have any experience with using T-Mobile in Vermont, particularly up in our area?

Overnight hiking near a city that’s doable without a car?

I plan to take the bus from Canada on Easter weekend and I’d like to do some camping and hiking. Preferably overnight and probably going alone.

I was wondering if any trails would be easily accessible from main centers or if I really need to rent a car? Thank you!:)

Offering recommendations on affordable wedding venues near Burlington VT

Hi all,

I am getting married in May and just went through the process of finding a venue. It was annoying how so many venues hide the costs and took me a while to compile everything. I wanted to share the 3 venues that I narrowed down to that are on the more affordable side and also dog friendly! I wish I could get married at each one of these, was sad to have to pick just one, hope this can help someone out for the 2026 season!

Snow Farm Vineyard, South Hero VT:

  • cost $45 per person ($3000 minimum, 200 people max), included tent (lighting and dance floor), tables, chairs, bar services, heaters, trash/compost/recycling removal, indoor bathrooms, event coordinator & onsite property manager
  • option to add on Inn rental for $1900 (4 rooms for 2 nights each)
  • have their own wine and distillery products as part of the bar but can also add on whatever liquid and cider/beer that you ask for
  • https://snowfarm.com/weddings-functions/

Farmhouse Flowers, Moretown VT:

  • cost $7500 (150+ guests), included tent (lighting and dance floor), tables, chairs, sound/sound system, trash/compost/recycling removal, restroom trailer
  • option to add onsite house rental for $700 (3 rooms for 2 nights each)
  • option to add on floral services (either full service or a la carte) directly from their farm!
  • option to add on day of coordinator for $1000

Pleasant Valley Orchards:

  • cost $65 per person ($5000 min, $9000 max), included tent (lighting and dance floor), tables, chairs, sound/sound system, trash/compost/recycling removal, restroom trailer
  • option to add onsite historic house for $2500 (4 rooms (says sleeps 10-12) for 4 nights each)

Organizations preparing for future flood relief?

We have had two years in a row of catastrophic floods. I think it would be wise to assume this is the new normal and to get prepared. Given that the current administration looks likely to gut FEMA, are there any groups organizing and training volunteers to fill the gap?

Are magic mushrooms legal in Vermont

I saw novelty "magic mushrooms" for sale behind the counter at one of the handy gas stations on shelburne road. I don't recall exact ingredients. It ready something about micro dosing and looked like they were psychedelic mushrooms.

Is this possible? Anyone tried them? It was $25 for the bag so I assumed it was a scam.

New Yorker piece on Hardwick

https://www.newyorker.com/news/dispatch/hardwick-the-motley-vermont-town-trying-to-tell-its-own-story

A really great read and a wonderful portrait of Hardwick and Vermont more generally. I love it here. I love you all who have been working at unconventional community building and social support for decades. We live in a special place. It ain't perfect, by any means. It can be damn rugged living. But I have never seen communities like I have in VT. I believe in us.

Canadian Tourists

Our northern neighbor is a vital part of tourism in Vermont. They are pissed about the Republicans/Trump nuking trade deals and have every right to be. What a self inflicted shit show.

Anyone with expertise/ knowledge about school funding have thoughts about the proposed formula?

Here’s Digger’s short write-up. It contains a link to the new proposed funding formula. I understand the basics of a foundation formula, and how it differs from what we currently have, but not the weights — specifically what would change. https://vtdigger.org/2025/01/31/lawmakers-confront-the-numbers-behind-gov-phil-scotts-education-funding-plan/

Edit: a couple people objecting to the Digger piece, which is fair. Here’s the actual funding formula: https://legislature.vermont.gov/Documents/2026/Workgroups/Senate%20Education/Agency%20of%20Education/Education%20Funding/W~Zoie%20Saunders~Funding%20Formula%20Explained~1-30-2025.pdf

I’m particularly interested in insights about the formula, but I get that people want to talk about the entire plan.

Eliminate the Border & embrace 51st State?

As New England grapples w/ tariffs is there a reason why liberals are anti-Canada being the 51st state? They promote open borders and free trade, this would accomplish both. NAFTA decimated our state, this seems like a reasonable solution and is a win-win for everyone?

green mountain & powerwalls... alternative to tesla?

I'd heard a fairly unsubstantiated rumor that some installers for the GMP program might be trying to get other powerwall options that are not Tesla. Has anyone heard anything about this? Would love another options, as we have an install later this year, and would prefer not to have a Tesla brand. Specifically wondering about the GMP $55/month program options. Thanks!
