I did a summer program at Champlain and I think I made a mistake on the common app by putting it in the college and university section selecting that I went to Champlain in the summer however since it was a program to explore a major there was no academic work to be done and you couldn’t get an A.S, B.S, or M.S. I applied to my colleges as EA and when I submitted my applications the college websites are asking for a transcript from the college summer program and I highly doubt Champlain would have one for me because I don’t actually go there. How can I fix this anyone else go through this issue? So I can put it as an activity? Or do I call the Admissions and tell them my situation?
Is it worth bringing my pc to college or will I be able to get assignments done without it? I have an ATX build so it’s pretty big this is a question for Cybersecurity majors and Computer science.
I live in Florida and have a background in technology. My dad's a programmer, I've done some personal programming work and some HS courses in Python. I did every HS course online except for band. I'm thinking of taking the Computer Science major, and eventually moving on to work in game development as a programmer.
I'm hoping to do marching band, though I can substitute it with a summer program that appears to fit with your academic schedule. There are some other options that do seem to have a band, but it seems there's always some other downside I see.
So, convince me to come here. Be honest, and you don't have to play that game where you only tell me the pros with none of the cons. I want to have the options to cook for myself or to go out to eat, I want to have some down time so I can relax or work on some personal project, I want a nice place where I can make some like-minded friends, somewhere that I can truly be myself, where I can have some new experiences.
What can I look forward to after getting accepted? What do you love about the school, or wish was different about it?
I've taken this school into consideration as one of my top 3 and I'm writing separate essays for other colleges that like certain traits about people and I would write about how I correlate to them. However for this college I'm stuck on what to write about so if anyone can tell me what they did... Possibly provide me with template would be nice but mainly I would like to know what this college is looking for in a student that can catch someone's attention. Really, any help is appreciated I want to apply early and don't have much time. I also went to the program this college offered as well.
I need to log in to continue my conversations about accommodations + financial stuff but this error keeps popping up. How do I contact admin to fix this dumb error?
hi, im a potential transfer student and was wondering if I could study abroad my first semester or do I have to be on campus first?
Can anyone tell me what Internships during the 4 years here as a cybersecurity major what companies commonly hired people from this college or Internships you've gotten during your college time here?
Hello,
I'm officially transferring into Champlain and I saw that all transfer students must live in Lakeview for their first year so I wanted to know what it's like living there to prep myself. How big are the rooms? Are the areas clean? Good location campus wise? I'm coming from living in an apartment for 2 years so I am not really used to traditional living.
I am an incoming transfer student in which I should be coming in either as a sophomore or junior and I had a couple quick questions.
1, Is the orientation a general orientation or is there one specific for freshman and one specific for transfer students?
2, Sorta derivative of question 1 but is move in dependent on orientation or wherever I choose to live? Since I am coming in not as a freshman I plan to get into one of the upperclassman residences (preferably 194) so are there different move in dates for the upperclassman halls or is move in day the same for everyone?
3, What are the credit classifications for the different class levels (freshman, sophomore, etc.) According to my transfer credit eval, Champlain accepted 59 credits, so where would that put me?
Yes I could've just emailed my advisor but it's the weekend and I figured I could get the same answers quicker from Reddit.
I explored this college and I would like to hear from students how the cybersecurity teachers/program itself has been useful for them and how the internships go. I would love to have honest opinions and suggestions. I plan on becoming an SOC analyst also would like to know the work load for this major… student life, how friendly are people and some specific things to avoid.
I'll be living at Champlain this summer and have the choice between either Schillhammer Hall or North House. Anyone know if one's distinctly better than the other? Would be SUPER grateful for any advice / thoughts!
Has anyone got accepted to Champlain without taking a foreign language and no honors classes?
Just learning now at accepted students day that there was a discord this whole time I don’t know if I’ll go here but I do rlly love this college Does anyone have a link to what they were talking about?
Have narrowed down my decision between these two schools. I feel more at home at Champlain but RIT program is consistently rated higher. Can anyone share pros/cons of the game design major at Champlain? Or Champlain in general vs. RIT? (COA is higher at Champlain after scholarships granted by each school)
Understanding that psychology is NOT what Champ is known for, does anyone have anything to contribute on if the program is worth it/if it receives due resources and funding? I know thats kind of UVM area of expertise usually but the current dorm situation for students living on campus sounds like a nightmare.
Secondly, something I haven’t seen many people talk about on here, what is the social scene like when first coming to campus from out-of-state? Is it a welcoming environment? Are there enough events between school and student led things to sort of balance out academic time? Just any advice or thoughts on these areas would be appreciated! Lots of things to consider! :)
Working on the board game for applying to the game design major atm, is it alright if I just use Tabletop Simulator to playtest the game instead of making a physical copy of it? It's already done and fully playable in Tabletop Sim right now and I just wanted to know if I would need to or not for submission
Hi everyone,
I got accepted at Champlain for online MS Information Security program (Management track). I am doing this program because I want to break into Cybersecurity and can afford the degree via GI Bill + Yellow Ribbon. I am having second thoughts now regarding pursuing this degree for two reasons. First, I prefer in person class over online class. Second, I have been suggested by people in the field that pursuing a master's degree in cybersecurity is pretty much useless and that certifications are enough to get foot in the door. In regard to certifications, I will pursue them after I get my degree. I acknowledge the fact that certifications can be achieved via self-study, but that does not work in my case. I need to get exposure to fundamentals before I muster courage and discipline to self-study.
Hey, I'm a freshman who's planning on possibly transferring to Champlain. I applied well over a month ago for the spring 2024 semester however I still didn't get notification decision even though its rolling admissions. I keep checking the dashboard but it still says, "application under review" Does it usually take this long for decisions to come out?
I’m seriously considering getting a new degree from Champlain, but I’m not sure which program is best. I want work as a software engineer; what is the best way to go about it at Champlain? Computer Science degree or Software Development?
Any help would be appreciated
I can’t find any info on how my room will be laid out or what my bathroom situation will be. Is the bathroom shared between a few rooms? How big is the room? Student services were not helpful. Anyone have any insight?
Hi. My daughter just got her housing assignment -- a standard quad in Summit -- but we can't figure out how that room is configured. Two bedrooms and a bathroom, two bedrooms and a sitting area...? Can anyone shed some light? Thanks.
Anybody know if they’re twin or twin XL?
I am entering my freshman year at champlain this fall. I am a psychology major and I have been thinking of getting an iPad instead of a laptop for school. Does anyone have any input or advise for this? I don’t need anything special on my device since I’m not taking any kind of game design stuff. So computer or iPad and if anyone has suggestions for which model that would be helpful aswell! :)
I'm a sophomore at my local community college that's thinking of transferring to Champlain for either the filmmaking major or the Degree Design Lab with filmmaking as my bigger focus. I'm specifically interested in writing stories, while I wouldn't hate taking a cinematography/directing/whatever class, I 100% want to focus on script writing. Since I know there's a big game design major, I would also be down to write stories for a game. But idk if student made games would be big enough for that.
First off, I'm wondering how good the filmmaking major is for me. For people in the major, how do you like it? Do you actually get to make media? Can I focus on screenwriting and do less of the other stuff? Have the internship opportunities been useful?
Secondly, what are the practical differences between a normal major and the DDL. I was told it would be easier to transfer my credits to the DDL so that's one thing. But do I miss any filmmaking opportunities by being in the DDL?
Thirdly, what is campus like? I'm an introvert (who's trying to be more outgoing) and not really interested in alcohol or other substances. So I want things to do that don't involve drinking.
Finally, is there a frisbee team? I absolutely love playing the sport and would miss it if it wasn't there.
I’m really set on going to Champlain College, and I’m thinking about studying film-making or digital arts related. My only concern are the dorms. I don’t really feel comfortable with the idea of sharing a room and I also don’t think I’d make the greatest room-mate either, any tips on how to secure a single dorm?
Anyone ever taken the C++ or software development certificate?
I got waitlisted x
