Fall Foilage

Hi! We were lucky enough to catch peak season last year without much planning since we are in north NJ. We are really hoping to catch peak foilage this year again but I'm not sure if we should head out this weekend (Oct 4-6) or next weekend (Oct 11-14)! I've been keeping up with the foilage tracker but it says Stowe is mid right now but the area right above it is at peak. Also what are some nice kid/family friendly (she's 4.5) hikes we can do? We stumbled upon one last year but I cannot remember the name for the life of me.
Thank you in advance!

Stowe to Sterling Pond and Traffic

Me and a small group plan on meeting in Stowe and driving up to Sterling Pond Trail on Sunday, 10/13. We are hoping to still see some leaves changing colors. We've been keeping and eye on the online guide. With things being crowded this time of year, does anyone know the best time to go so we can avoid huge crowds on the trail and bad traffic on Mountain Road?

Long weekend in Stowe - Oct 17-20

Hey r/Stowe locals!

We're a group of four (two couples) heading your way mid-October to celebrate a 30th birthday. Super excited to see those famous fall colors and take a breather from city life. Any recommendations would be awesome!

We're curious about:

  1. Best spots for autumn views? Nice drives and/or hiking trails?
  2. Local food and breweries we shouldn't miss?
  3. What's a must-do fall activity in Stowe?
  4. Any particular local events happening mid-October?
  5. Any hidden gems most visitors don't know about?

We're really keen to experience the local side of things. Any tips on getting a real taste of Stowe would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Just booked our stay at “AWOL Stowe”

I can’t find a ton of information about this place, it looks beautiful & we are excited about it… but a little worried it’s too good to be true? It seems they are just opening up… anyone have any info?

Looking for bakery for a small birthday cake

Coming to Stowe for long weekend and it’s my wife birthday. Would prefer to get a birthday cake from a small/local bakery but if need be, I’ll hit up the grocery store. Recommendations?

Most bakeries seem to be more scones & muffins and coffee kind of places. Thank you ever so much🙏🏼

Mosquitoes

Hi. I’ve been to Stowe a couple times, but only in the fall. I will be arriving in about a week and a half and I’m wondering about the mosquitoes at this time. Mosquitoes love me and I’d like to not get bit.

Upstate NY musician performing in Stowe Cider this Fri - Seeking car camp spot

Hey all - I posted on here a few weeks back to mention my gig at Stowe Cider coming up this Friday. I'm looking for a good car camping suggestion for that night, and figured I'd check back in.

Here's the original post below in case anyone is around and interested in dropping by. Thanks all!

I'm a musician from upstate NY traveling through VT to perform at Stowe Cider on July 19th.

I'll be doing a 5-8pm solo slot. Sort like a McCartney/Neil Young/Radiohead hybrid. I'm looking forward to playing. If anyone is near, please come up! Trying to network a bit and get the word out.

Some links to check it out below. Thanks for checking it out.

Overnight parking in or near Stowe?

Does anyone know of any overnight parking options available during the summer in the Stowe area? We don't have enough parking spaces at the condo we are renting for a weekend in August. Thanks in advance for any tips!

Apartment search!

Hey y'all! I know it's a long shot, but I'm hunting for a one or two-bedroom place in Bolton, Duxbury, Waterbury, Stowe, or nearby.

Wasn't planning on a roommate, but I might be open if they're the right fit! If these one-bedroom prices are getting to you too, hit me up!

Thanks a ton! 🤗

I've even reached out to Airbnb hosts about long-term stays. No luck. Despite the amount of time their places stay empty, they still won't budge. Meanwhile, their very own visitors wonder why local businesses are so understaffed. 👍🏼

Public Record Requests at local level - online survey for study

A Vermont researcher is collecting data for a study on the management of public records in Vermont municipalities, including transparency, accountability, and compliance with the Vermont Public Records Act.

As part of the study, Stowe, Johnson Village, and Shelburne have been selected as case study communities.

If you have (or someone you know has) requested public records in those communities, you can share your experience navigating the public record process via an online survey form. The survey is posted at https://huntsburgresearch.questionpro.com/t/AbDhbZ3REO.

The 'record requester' survey closes July 29.

Has anyone had any bone to pick with the excavation company, Dale Percy?

I recently had an encounter with them that left an unsavory impression. On the one hand, they come across as stalwarts of the community. On the other hand, they seem to have become too big for their britches. I was wondering what people's experiences have been with them.

Bar recommendations for summertime in stowe

How are Matterhorn and Lower Bar in the summertime in Stowe? I've only ever been to them in the winter, wondering if anyone has any input on live music etc and how the scene is on weekend nights in the summer? Other bars you'd recommend over these for a low key bachelor party in the summer? Thanks in advance!

Looking to hike up Nosedive April 28

Hey y'all, I've skied at Stowe for years now and I am yearning for some final turns up on Mansfield this season. I am a prepared hiker and in great shape but I was just wondering if this would be worth it. Or do they still have some pack up there?

Thanks for the advice people!

Leashes required to monoski?

Got my new mono in the mail the other day and went for a few afternoon laps at Stowe. After my 4th or 5th run I sit down on the 6 pack and some mountain employee that looked to be in in his 50s or 60s yells at me "DO YOU HAVE A SAFETY STRAP?" and slams the e-stop instantly after I respond "no?"

My mono bindings are 'pro-fx' non-release bindings similar to whats on skiblades or hardboot snowboards. They're not any more likely to release than a traditional snowboard binding would.

This guy proceeds to detach my mono and makes me jump down 4 feet off the lift. I didnt argue with him too much because I figured he's just an old stickler to the rules and simply doing his job enforcing a stupid policy. I just hiked up to the quad where they didn't care.

Looking it up now online, I cant find any mention of leashes or brakes being required for Stowe apart from people talking about the outdated leash rules for snowboarding which have since been removed. I've never heard of leashes being enforced in Vermont.

What gives? Is it a rule or not? Was that guy just a hater? Jealous of my sick mono and youthful charm? Or should I just go get a leash? I feel like how I imagine early snowboarders must've felt in the 80s lol
