I’m going to pick my kid up from UVM for Thanksgiving in about a month. Assuming that there’s no snow, is Saxon Hill open for riding into the late fall? We’re just looking for something quick to do for a few hours on our way out of town. Where I am, trails are pretty much open as long as the weather is good, but it’s not a good idea to ride certain areas during hunting season.
My partner and I are staying in East Burke for the weekend to ride.
What's your must-ride trail at KT? I know everyone loves sidewinder. Open to any ability level suggestions.
Does anyone have recs for best dinner spot there? Seems like only a few options, and all seem decent. Best dive bar? Best vibe?
Thanks!
Hi! I know it’s near the end of the season but looking for some people in their 20s to 30s to ride with, have only really met people into gravel/road for whatever reason since I’ve moved here.
I am in Burlington and like to ride more advanced technical stuff. If there’s any good groups or if you’re also looking for a new riding buddy let me know.
Coming up to Burlington from NC the weekend of Oct 11th and seeing that I had some extra days I thought I would experience what everyone is raving about. I'm an experienced rider looking to get two days in.
For a first timer to VT for mountain biking, should I go to Madbush Falls or Kingdom. They don't seem to be an equally comparable with Kingdom being massive. However, they both seem pretty turn-key which is what I need.
Followup Question 1: What is going the week of the 14th that is causing the rate hike for rooms? Canadian Thanksgiving?
Followup Question 2: Anyone recommend a coach in either of those areas.
UPDATE: I decided to go to Kingdom Trails and had a fantastic time. Black Bear and Stormin' Normal were so good I rode them twice. Snow up high and leaves were going off. Will certainly go back. I tried to use Dynamic Cycling Adventures but he had a personal emergency. He was nice enough to send few a few routes and I self-guided which totally worked out.
My kid is staying with my in-laws this weekend so my wife and I are wanting to try some new trails. We will be located in Warren and willing to drive an hour. For reference, our favorite routes:
Sugarbush jump trail, up Eurich Pond, down Witch’s Brew, Maple Twist, up enchanted forest, down evolution, down Goodnight Irene
Basically all of Cady hill.
We were thinking either: Sleepy Hollow, Hinesburg Town Forest, or Driving Range. But are also open to suggestions
Thanks in advance !!
Hey all- new to VT! When/where are the ladies rides?! Or where can I find this info.
Thanks in advance!
Looking for folks that have little rippers 5-8 around vergennes. Have a boy who rides bmx/park, mtb, and dh - wondering if there's local riding buddies.
Might be a dumb question, but why are there no sanctioned mtb trails in Burlington or ridable from town?
There are a ton of riders, and there are plenty of parks and forested areas in and around Burlington, but no mtb trail networks (I don’t count intervale). Sunny Hollow is the closest trail network, but it just kinda sucks. Everyone has to drive 20-30 minutes to get to trails, and even then the options are mostly old school XC tech or wannabe bike park jumps and DH. Where’s our one nice flow trail?
I lived in the upper valley before Burlington and there were multiple trail networks that I could ride to from home. Burlington has so much potential for that, but I also know the land is in demand for housing etc. still, there are plenty of parks that could host small networks (looking at you Red Rocks, Centennial Woods, Rock Point/Arms Forest). I keep hearing rumors about the Leddy bike park that’s in the works, but it’s been years in the making and still no progress. Has anyone tried to advocate for more trails in the area? Am I missing something here?
Hey all, was curious if anyone could tell me how Hinesburg Town Forest trails compare to something like Saxon Hill. The description says it is some of the most challenging trails in FOTW. Is that true for the blue trails? Was thinking of trying it out but don't want to get in over my head.
I've done most of Saxon Hill's blues, Mud Pond, Sunny Hollow and also Little River. Little River kicked my ass on those hills, but I managed to get down the downhill sections but I go slow on stuff.
On Saxon's Outer Limit and Out n Back trails I generally have to walk over some of the tougher areas, but can make it through its downhill trails no sweat.
Hi! I grew up in Nh and have been living in Utah for 10 years (fiancé grew up there). We are thinking about moving back east to be closer to family and are drawn to the mtb/outdoor culture in vermont. We work remote, are early 30s and love all types of mountain biking + road/gravel. What is your favorite area/what would you recommend if you could live in any part of vermont for biking?
Was biking this morning and found a phone on the side of the trail. Reddit won't let me posts photos but it's an iPhone. If you can tell me the phone case style or background image we'll find a way to connect and get it back to ya
Not sure if there are better, more specific channels to post this in. please provide if so! . Godspeed 🙏
I really screwed up my shifting on my mountain bike trying to fix it myself. I think the derailer hanger is bent. Where in Burlington has a quick turn around for bike repairs? Willing to do a little driving.
Anyone know of anyone who teaches lessons in Central VT? Think like, Perry's / Cochran's / Cady area kind of.
I've been trying to take MTB more seriously the last few years and I'd love to take a few lessons so I can get someone to look at what the heck I'm doing. I guess I'd say I'm an intermediate rider.
Not looking to race, just want to improve my form and gain confidence to have more fun. I've been trying to self teach primarily using methods from Lee McCormack's books / media, and feel like I'm improving but it'd be awesome to have someone see what I'm doing right/wrong. My mom is married to a ski instructor and having taken lessons from him, it's given me a real appreciation for some decent lessons.
Hey does anybody know if there is anywhere that somebody can rent a Etrike (yes three wheels) for the day. I am debating buying one for my 78 year old mother but I’d really like to have her try one before I order. I am not opposed to buying local either but haven’t found any dealers that have them in stock up here.
Also my mother is coming to visit and I need to figure out what to do with her for a couple days.
Hi folks, does anyone have recommendations on trail networks that dry out and open earlier in the spring that most? We have the good fortune to have too many networks within a 90 minute drive to exhaustively check conditions every week of spring and I'm hoping to have a few likely candidates to check on for some early-season riding as the temperatures warm.
I'm aware of https://vmba.org/trailsinvt/ and each club posting their closures on their own sites or TrailForks, but the data seems pretty inconsistent club-to-club and not always updated. As an example, my local club doesn't regularly update as conditions shift winter to spring.
Alternatively, do you know of any networks that simply don't have issues with mud and don't have complete mud-season closures?
Thanks for any tips or info!
Has there been any grooming around Cady Hill or maybe Cotton Brook yet? Ive got a few hours to kill in Waterbury tomorrow but it might be too soon after the snow for a ride.
I believe I know the answer to this, but is car camping at Mike's Tiki Bar in Burke, VT free? We are planning a biking trip at Kingdom Trails for the upcoming long weekend, and of course, all the campgrounds are sold out.
I've been mountain biking about a year and I've done Outer Limits a couple of times when I'm feeling strong and it kicks my ass every time. I end up walking a lot of the steeper parts. Do people actually make it up those ravines? Would love to get good enough to make it around that whole loop without needing to walk anything. Any tips?
I'm primarily a roadie but have been dipping my toes into MTB this year with the hope of improving my handling skills before 'cross season starts. I've some unexpected time off and am hoping to spend it riding something less rocky than eastern MA trails.
If you were going to spend a few days of 4-5hrs on the bike, is there enough around Cady Hill and the Trapp lodge to keep you busy, or is heading up to Burke the smarter choice? I'm very much interested in pedal-y, climb-y trails -- would frankly be pretty happy just lapping hour+ fireroad/doubletrack climbs with a few options for mellow descents.
Additionally, as a solo traveler is either area going to be better for meeting other riders / coming across people on the trails?
hi i know this is not the right forum but i am so lost and hoping anyone has at least a pointer of where to ask this. im doing an nyc to canada ride and cannot for the life of me find route info in southwest vermont, basically getting from troy to burlington or similar. sorry again i know it's not mountain biking but i saw this forum is biking and vermont and thought i could get maybe some sort of useful tip....

We are looking for some responsible renters for the summer or part of the summer. 4 bedroom/3 bath house. Secure bike room. On the ski trails so if you know the mountain you can bike home downhill from the bike park (you can also ride there if you don’t mind a climb). 10 minutes from sherborne trials, 15 from Green mountain trails and aqueduct trails, 20 from Pine Hill and Mount Peg. Here’s our Air BnB listing. You can ignore the pricing we will rent direct for the right people/period. https://abnb.me/Cr52oj3oCzb
