Buzzing the Tower

Anyone else notice a couple of troop transport / fat-bellied military aircraft skimming the treetops a couple of hours ago? I was outside here in Fairfield and they were headed northeast. Man they were close!

Hi Saint Albans! Can you help with research?

I’m part of a University of Cambridge research project, and we’re studying how the internet is regulated—who decides what you see online and how much control you should have. Right now, we dont have any participants from Vermont. We really want to hear from all of the States. It’s really important to get some local voices included in this global study!

We just need 6 minutes of your time, and its completely anonymous. Your input could help shape future internet policies that impact us all.

Thanks so much for considering this and helping to make sure Vermont is represented!

Anyone here ever taken the greyhound bus from St. Albans to montreal?

Anyone here ever taken the greyhound bus from St. Albans to montreal? I haven't seen much review of it, the bus station is located at Taylor Park in downtown. How safe would it be to stay around that part of town at 4 am to wait for the bus?

Who Do You Use for Heating Fuel That's Not Suburban Propane?

I'm aware of Clarence Brown, but would also like people's opinion on them. I'm also looking to see what other options people use that may not be located near St. Albans, but still deliver here.

St Albans City School?

Our family is moving back to Vermont soon - we tried a new opportunity in another state and it didn’t pan out so we’re coming back. We lived in Fairfax prior, now looking at St Albans. We have school-aged kids. I’ve heard things here and there about city school, from “it’s terrible stay away” to “it’s wonderful and we love it.” I guess I am looking for more thoughts/input/info about people’s experiences with St Albans City School?

Learning to ride a bicycle

I'd like to learn how to ride a bike - would the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail be a good place to practice on the weekends? I'm new to the area, so I'm very open to tips/suggestions (both for learning to ride a bike, and in general too)!

Proposed Quarry on Kellogg Road

Hey, folks. I'm posting to inform those of you who live within the vicinity of 1720 Kellogg Road that the town's Development Review Board is considering the owner's (represented by S.D. Ireland) application for site plan approval to use this property as a quarry. This will allow S.D. Ireland to blast, crush, and haul rock at this location until 2040. If approved, this will also increase traffic on Kellogg Road to up to 240 large-truck trips everyday (approx. one truck every 3 minutes) in either direction on Kellogg Road. I worry that this will not only affect our everyday life, but our overall quality of life, as well as real estate value and potential sale of. There is a meeting open to the public being held on Thursday, June 27 at 6:30PM at the new Town Hall on Georgia Shore Road. If you share any concerns or think of other ways this can affect our daily lives, then I urge you to attend.

To the owners of this property, Stephen and Kristina Polak, if you see this, please reconsider. I understand times are hard and money is money. But, you do not live in this vicinity, and therefore, none of these actions or events will affect you. Please take the time to think how detrimental this will be to those of us who are out here. Thank you.

Main Street

Main Street, St Albans - standing at the corner of Bank and North Main looking south towards Kingman and Lake. It’s a shame they removed those bay windows from above the Village Frame Shoppe & Gallery!

Film club? ("Movie Meetups" on Thursdays)

Some friends of mine went and started a local film club. For right now they're watching a movie at The Welden Theatre every Thursday evening or so. Sometimes we hang out before or after the film to chat about it. We're catching a screening of "Furiosa" this Thursday evening (May 30th) if you're interested :)

Yellowjackets?

Anyone else’s property currently being invaded with yellowjackets? I keep finding and removing new, small nests but just keep seeing more and more of them buzzing around. Found 2 in my basement today. Anyone have any good solutions? Or recommend anyone who knows how to deal with this?
