New England Autonomy Movement (N.E.A.M), a non profit organization

I did not see anything in the rules about promoting other reddit threads or websites, and this does directly impact and affect the state. We are looking for volunteers and members to help us with making this a reality.

What are we?
We were created to shield New England from the rampant influence of the wealthy in politics, and the chaos of the federal government, while also working to address local issues such as income inequality and the high cost of living. We believe that all of these problems could be resolved by advancing New England’s autonomy and self-sufficiency, something that will ultimately enhance the economic, social, and political prosperity for the region. We hope to achieve this by strengthening state governance, fostering regional collaboration, and encouraging investment in local manufacturing and infrastructure.

At our core, we are a movement seeking a way to restore our personal liberties and the ability to live our own lives without subjugation to the wealthy and their political puppets. We are fighting to stop authoritarianism and fascism, and for the communal protection of everyone who calls this place home.

Specifically, we would create State agencies and departments to replace existing Federal ones, while pushing for a buildup in local manufacturing, alternative energy, and agriculture. We hope to simultaneously work to strengthen workers’ rights, LGBTQ protections, and affordable healthcare. Eventually, moving on to help establish legal pathways for secession. While this is not our main focus, our hope is that if legal pathways were there, it would give states the leverage needed to hold the Federal Government accountable. Giving power back to the people, rather than the corporations and private interest groups. While also serving as a last resort for New England, or any region, in an increasingly corrupt system. That being said, our main focus is on creating stronger states and local governments rather than secession. And we wouldn’t pursue that until our other goals were met.

This movement exists for 3 purposes:

  1. To develop an organization that will push for ballot initiatives that increase the legislative, judicial, and economic autonomy of our states from the rest of the US union.
  2. To develop an organization that will aid local and regional businesses to grow, allowing New England to become more economically independent from the rest of the union.
  3. To support the right to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of happiness, a promise that New England had a major part in establishing when the US union was first formed. A promise that the federal government has long since given up on.

Volunteer

Hi. Relocating short term to Rutland for a job but will be working second shift. Wondered if there are any places looking for volunteers 1 day a week. Or any fun classes also that I could take as a way to get to know some people in the community while I’m there :)

Marcell’s Oil $1000/month

First time owning a home with oil heating. Is it normal to have a $400+ bill every two weeks for heating? I know it’s been a cold winter but dropping a grand every month just on heating (+ electric, water, sewer, internet) seems crazy.

Then, my handyman mentions that Marcells has a lawsuit going on for overcharging. He mentioned that he “closed up” a home for the summer last year, including closing up the oil intake, with the tank completely full. And the home owner still got bills every month all summer for filling up the tank!!

Seems suspicious and I’m looking for recommendations for other oil providers.

2500 sqft home from 1980s with original windows.

Rutland asks for public input on moving the library and City Hall to Merchants Row

Rutland’s historic public library and City Hall buildings both need extensive repairs, which could cost millions.

That's why city officials are seeking public input on what could be a much less costly option than historic renovation — moving both facilities to a newer building downtown and creating a joint civic center.

The first of three public forums will be held at the Rutland Free Library tonight, Jan. 16 at 5:30 p.m.

Flying into Rutland with skis?

Hi, I am trying to decide if I should fly into Rutland to go skiing at Killington in a few weeks. I would have a layover in Boston and fly Cape Air on a Tecnam Traveller to Rutland. Cape Air baggage allowance says that on this type of plane model the length limit for skis is 42 inches (70 inches on a different plane model) but I find it odd that Killington lists this airport as a transportation option if many of the flights going in and out supposedly won't accept adult skis? Anyone have any experience with them and can give some insight? I've looked for other posts and tried calling customer service with no luck.

Looking to move

Hello! Spouse and I are looking to move to VT and came across Rutland as an option. Looking for y’all’s thoughts.

Ugh sorry about formatting. I’m on mobile.

Pros: We like Vermont. Lower cost than Burlington. Small town feel but has the amenities we enjoy in our current location in closer proximity. It feels like our current city 10 years ago. Higher min wage than current state. Miraculously better public transport and walkability in the areas we are looking at houses.

Cons: We are both young remote workers. If we lose our jobs it would be tough to find something else in the area. Medical options seem limited for specialists. We are Very spoiled in this regard and can get all sorts of medical treatments within a 30 minute drive.

Cons we’ve seen mentioned here: Drugs Crime

I grew up in a very small town (Rutland is over 3x the size of my hometown.) with Very serious drug issues (we are in the news for opiate OD’s amongst kids and teens.). Is the Rutland crime and drugs boohooing over petty store theft and loitering weed smoking or the Walmart getting held up and houses exploding bc they’re meth labs?

More specific questions I have: Do you work in the general Rutland area? How was it to find a job? If you moved from elsewhere to Rutland, why? If you moved from elsewhere to Rutland, are there any notable culture differences? What are a few things you’d like to see improved in the area?

Could sustainability companies do well in Rutland

I noticed that castleton, middlebury and ccv have strong environmental science programs and natural science programs. So if students were assissted with starting green businesses . Could green businesses such as green products, services, sustainable agriculture, and green construction. Do well in the city ?

Gills

I was wondering if anyone can tell me where Gills gets their rolls from? I don't particularly care for them anymore as the quality of meat used has gone down.. but I love the rolls and would love to purchase some if possible. That's the one good thing about that spot. Bread is always on point.

I have this vision what if the city had a yearround public market if both farmers markets merged and got the coop to occupy the walmart and have one farmers market operate in it but on a daily basis

Stories about all things New England weird!

Hey Rutland!

I started a new weekly podcast that dropped last week on all things New England strange called Weirder After Dark! We are three cousins, born and raised in the North East, who mix humor with facts to take you on a journey into all things New England weird—our current episode, which dropped 12/3 is on The Berkshire Abductions! An incident where 200+ people claim to have seen a UFO and 3 people claim to have been abducted on the same night!

To give you a taste of what else we offer, we have future episodes on the Jane Toppan (Serial Killer from MA), The Lake Winnipesaukee Mystery Stone, Bridgewater Triangle, Smuttynose murders, Coos County Wood Devils, The Kennedys etc! We also already dropped an episode on the Haunted S.K. Peirce Mansion from Gardner, Ma!

We'd love to hear ideas on other local New England mysteries for us to go after! If you know/have anything spooky, share it here! Feel free to reach out if you've had any strange experiences with the paranormal, aliens, weird events, unknown artifacts, cryptids, or urban legends!

Also, if this sounds like your vibe, feel free to follow/subscribe/listen on the following platforms:

Instagram - Weirder After Dark

Link Tree to Podcast Sites (This will bring you right to the pod where you can subscribe/follow). A listen and feedback would mean the world to this new podcaster!

Keep it weird :D
