Socialism as a political system is defined by democratic and social control of the means of production by the workers for the good of the community rather than capitalist profit, based fundamentally on the abolition of private property relations.
Socialism is also a sociopolitical movement dedicated to the critique and dismantling of exploitative structures, including economic, gendered, ethnic oppression.
Socialism, as a movement, confronts these different systems of oppression as mutually conditioning, intersectional, and/or dialectically related within the current hegemonic order. It seeks to overcome oppression in a holistic manner without neglecting any particular axis so that it might be eliminated and genuine social emancipation may be realized. We recognize that Socialism cannot be achieved while structural oppression continues and workers are divided.
We look forward to your participation in our sub, but please be mindful of our posting guidelines.

For families with incarcerated loved ones, the barriers to accessing visits are an additional form of punishment.
This holiday season, the PSL connected with the people behind Barn-a-Bus and revived this program for a limited run of free prison busing for holiday family visits.

I'm just trying to get some insight
Hi ! I've really wanted to have an internet friendship where you can discuss stuff , vent to someone and exchange ideas etc . I've tried on other forums but it got ruined everything i said I was a Socialist. Most of them think I'm some sort of maniac for thinking that way even if i say thats its alright that they think otherwise . So I wanted to post it here . Amongst people who share my interests. So if someone wanna start a chat about really any topic at all , vent , propose ideas , talk about your quirky ideas or just have a nice talk I'll try to do my best to be a supportive friend . If it's important I'm from Germany , male , 16 years old .
I know multiple socialist/communist/arnachist brands that have good quality and ethical "merch". But what l am searching for are basically normal brands, that don't sell merch but rather normal, good looking clothes that are just not exploiting there laborers or the planet in any way. If you know what I mean I'd be thankful for every help!

Hi socialism reddit community. I'm a leftist organizer and writer who just launched a series called "distilling leftist jargon." The first piece in this series is an explainer of neoliberalism, how it functions globally/individually, and how you can hold a conversation about it.
I'm sure most of us in this community know what neoliberalism is, but it is a challenging term to distill, in part because of the how expansive its grip has become. I also occasionally see a gap in ability/willingness to explain this concept with others. Being able to effectively communicate what neoliberalism is, and a leftist critique, is paramount to building a stronger socialist movement and dismantle capitalism.
Appreciate you all!

It is time once and for all to jettison its misleadership and build an independent movement accountable to no one other than the working class.
Whether you’re a longtime organizer or new to the struggle, join us to discuss how we got here, organizing conditions under Trump, and what is to be done in the coming months.

i rarely ever hear any conversations about blanquism by contemporary socialists. what is the general consensus (from reading about the ideology im going to assume negative). do blanquists even exist today?
They are mad about healthcare. Good. Now let’s open their eyes to what else privatization is to be blamed for.
Social security, for example. If it is privatized like they all want, a fat cat will be on top earning a multimillion dollar salary for no reason deciding that you didn’t actually work hard enough to “earn” your social security payments. You will reach 67 (or whatever the retirement age will be) and that fat cat can deny your retirement. You’ve paid into social security your life, and you won’t receive it. This is their nightmare, this is what the conservatives have been saying for decades - that social security will not be there when they retire. Well, privatization is exactly how that will come to be.
Privatized education? Some fat cat deciding your child doesn’t get to have books this year because they “aren’t necessary for learning.”
Maybe, just maybe, if they can wrap their heads around this, public ownership of the means of production won’t be too far of a leap for them.
Edit: Liberals, too.
It’s such an underrated part of history in the West and coming from a Greek background I’d like be interested something about it from a left perspective. While it was an empire, it really breaks a lot of conceptions of the typical Eurocentric view.
It’s interesting to me how this area of the world goes from being viewed by westerners as “European” to “Oriental” depending on the circumstance. Or how Greek nationalism / identity conflicts with this period of “Greek” history.
My Greek (Romanika?) isn’t strong enough to read something like this so English is preferable (signomi, yiayia)
Thanks in advance.
(And I’ve read Orientalism which isn’t Eastern Rome focused but does touch on a lot of the viewpoints westerners have had on Eastern Rome)
I feel like socialists aren't connecting the profit motives of healthcare to a holistic, economic view. It's very similar to what liberals do. They focus on a single issue, disregard its systemic origins, and thereby in complete equivalence, leave it unfixed. They don't actually change society, whether or not its for a benevolent cause of healthcare, or an incentive to destroy profit. That's literally just democratic party policy(as in, government spending in the healthcare sector, i,e,, deprivitization), it's not anything special. The only way is to add actual Marxist implications to this, in a broader critique of profit in our entire society. How does this affect other necessities, like food or housing? How is this profit motive related to our mode of production? How can we abolish it, and what do we replace it with?
What do you think?
I know this is not something new to say as it seems to be the general consensus surrounding Luigi Mangione, he most likely is a patsy. Like how could Altoona police see him in the McDonald's with the same bag with the gun he used and a manifesto? It doesn't make sense. Like unless he had a second bag at another location, picked it up, and then left NYC, then there's no way they found him with the same bag right? It didn't look like there was a second bag on the bike with him, and it doesn't seem that preplanned that the assassin would have a second bag somewhere else to pick up. Plus the manifesto doesn't even sit right, I just get off vibes from this whole thing.
