An international community for socialists, to discuss current events in our world from our anti-capitalist perspective(s). Certain knowledge of socialism is expected from participants. This is not a space for non-socialists. Please be mindful of our rules before participating, as they are actively enforced.

Socialism as a political system is defined by democratic and social control of the means of production by the workers for the good of the community rather than capitalist profit, based fundamentally on the abolition of private property relations.
Socialism is also a sociopolitical movement dedicated to the critique and dismantling of exploitative structures, including economic, gendered, ethnic oppression.
Socialism, as a movement, confronts these different systems of oppression as mutually conditioning, intersectional, and/or dialectically related within the current hegemonic order. It seeks to overcome oppression in a holistic manner without neglecting any particular axis so that it might be eliminated and genuine social emancipation may be realized. We recognize that Socialism cannot be achieved while structural oppression continues and workers are divided.
We look forward to your participation in our sub, but please be mindful of our posting guidelines.
Are you new to socialist ideas? Wondering what alternatives to capitalism exist? Please check out our educational materials and wiki further down in this sidebar.

Hello I'm young leftist. I'm very interested in whole ideology etc. I read some books but honestly they were boring (don't get me wrong they were exciting too). Could you guys recommend me any story based/fictional books about leftism? Have a nice day.
To mitigate the negative effects of capitalism, it is essential to promote class consciousness. However, we also know that the state often serves the interests of the ruling class. If a ruling class, motivated to reduce exploitation and foster class consciousness, takes control of the government, it could theoretically be well-positioned to promote these ideals. Yet, in practice, many Marxist-Leninist states have experienced outcomes contrary to these goals. Instead of advancing class consciousness, some of these states broke apart, while others transitioned toward capitalism.
What went wrong in these marxist-leninist states and what lessons can we learn from these states experiences to foster class consciousness in the future ?
This last year we saw a resurgence of radical student organizing across the country in resistance to the genocide in Palestine. As we gear up for a Trump presidency which further threatens the rights and dignity of people in the US and abroad, the students cannot back down! How do we continue to ramp up the pressure despite mounting repression from increasingly right-wing university administrations and governments?
Join us for The Student Resistance on December 4th, 6:30pm at Algebra Tea House, where we will talk about the role of student movements in working class struggle. We will explore the radical student history of Case Western, the role of US students historically in resisting imperialist projects like the Vietnam War, and how students have been involved in revolutionary struggles around the world. We will talk about how students can get involved with the PSL, and how collaboration can be mutually beneficial for truly transformative social change.
We invite students from all universities in the Cleveland area or beyond to attend, including CWRU, CSU, John Carroll, Baldwin Wallace, and more. The only way we can win is to fight together!
Do you think a person suffering mental health illness is his fault or the fault of the system that capitalism promotes?
Marx , in his writings repeatedly emphasised how capitalism able to survive and so rooted in human society because of the false consciousness it promotes. Through false consciousness the exploited people under capitalism are made to believe the capitalist system is the best system in the world for them and there is no alternative to it etc. Today also this false consciousness also holds true. we also know that to solve a problem , we first need to acknowledge and know about the problem, then only solution can be implemented to get rid of problem. To replace capitalism and to introduce a new system that promotes collective welfare over profit making, we need people to first understand the problems inherent in capitalism. But how do you start this mass revolution in people's mind?
With a new Trump presidency and an uptick of Nazi's online no doubt progressive left leaning media, books specifically will be targeted in order to further spread bigoted ideas. Laws are already banning black American studies as well as other topics relating to learning about racism and other important topics about other minorities in the classroom. I predict that in the near future that these kind of books will be harder and harder to come across.
In case these books become permanently banned I have collected a number of books in PDF form.
If you have a hard drive I highly suggest downloading banned books, here is my collection of books I gathered.

Show up to tell Racist Ronayne that we will not pay for genocide. In the past weeks, county residents have been removed for attire, protestors have had their items seized and cited, all on the direction of protecting Ronayne and his allegiances to israel. We refuse to be silent and we refuse to be intimidated. We demand Racist Ronayne be accountable to his residents and constituents.
The meeting will take place at 900 Prospect Ave E. Parking across the street is free with validation. Arrive before 5:00 to sign up to give public comment.
See you there.
I'm a member of the RCP and we're discussing China's Long March Toward Capitalism tomorrow. I have only very recently been learning about post-Mao China and would like a broader perspective on the subject. Essays, pamphlets, videos or anything I can get through in a day would be really nice for compiling my notes, but I'm trying to develop my understanding outside of that context, so longer book recommendations are also helpful. Thank you!
Feel free to discuss your struggles, your frustrations, your joys, and whatever else is on your mind here. Keep in mind that the Subreddit's rules do still apply.
Yours in solidarity, >!until the robots rebel!<.

For reference, I’m a trans women who was raised in a fairly religious conservative household. While I’m away from that life, I’ve always had a distinct sense of shame about sexuality to the point it is debilitating at times. It makes me wonder how much different things would have been if I was brought up in a Socialist world, though the lack of discussion I see about how sex would look post Capitalism makes such a world hard to envision.
So curious what people think.
For reference. My freind is a liberal, or he considers himself as one. I'm a learning socialist (I have been reading theory for half a year, and as of right now Im pretty sure I fit into the category of being libraterian socialist...)... I made the mistake of jumping head first into reading books that I barely understood (Marx, Engels, Rosa Luxemburg...) due to the fact that my English is very poor...I'm Macedonian and I olny found out that the Marxists.org has a page decided to literature translated into Macedonian about a month ago.. I don't want my freind to make the same mistake I did...So yeah... I need some easyer books for understanding socialism and it's failures/successes to recommend to this freind of mine... :)
I was told about an article which stated that, from what i can remember,
'Every human can be met with the living standards of the average first world country citizen with 60% less productivity'
not word for word but it is definitely the gist of it
Thanks in advance!
To preface, I live in somewhere near Atlanta, Georgia.
The major options seem to be:
PSL (is ML, IIRC)
RCA [part of RCI] (is Trotskyist)
CPUSA
DSA
I slowly make my way thought larger theory books, and I've enjoyed breaking it up with this Marxist reader that I found at my local used bookstore.
Does anybody have any Reader or collections they'd recommend? For example, I have a gramsci reader on my shelf I'm going to get to. I'm mostly interested in Marxist theory, but I'm open to other tendencies as well.
