Socialism as a political system is defined by democratic and social control of the means of production by the workers for the good of the community rather than capitalist profit, based fundamentally on the abolition of private property relations.
Socialism is also a sociopolitical movement dedicated to the critique and dismantling of exploitative structures, including economic, gendered, ethnic oppression.
Socialism, as a movement, confronts these different systems of oppression as mutually conditioning, intersectional, and/or dialectically related within the current hegemonic order. It seeks to overcome oppression in a holistic manner without neglecting any particular axis so that it might be eliminated and genuine social emancipation may be realized. We recognize that Socialism cannot be achieved while structural oppression continues and workers are divided.
We look forward to your participation in our sub, but please be mindful of our posting guidelines.

We all know the classics, but I'm looking to expand into more contemporary books about socialism/communism, perhaps written in the last 50 or so years. What do you recommend?
Please remove this if it's not allowed or I'm missing a very obvious recommendation thread. Thanks!
It absolutely baffles me how few people in Germany are openly leftist or at the very least anti-imperialist. I have yet to see a single German person openly condemn what Israel is doing. Hell, I've even seen people who call themselves "anti-fascist" openly praise Israel for continuing this genocide despite Israel clearly being a fascist ethnostate. What the hell is going on over there?
Hello comrades,
I was wondering about if there's a good app that you guys would recommend for communicating between a decently large group of people that's simple to learn and somewhat intuitive. Ideally, the app should have translation options as well.
I live in a pretty brown community here in the South. This is a very red state and already Klansmen have been running around creating trouble. In particular, a former student of mine had their car broken into, tires slashed, and a school chromebook stolen in broad daylight. This has gotten me pretty disgusted, but I am trying to figure out how to do something for my community.
To that end, I am wanting to set up a Neighborhood Watch program. I'd like to set it up so that people could readily report if they see any unfamiliar people spreading KKK pamphlets or otherwise acting suspiciously. Most families in this neighborhood are latino or black. There's white neighbors here too (like myself) but I am unsure of their politics and sympathies - but I am not exactly thrilled. If possible, I would like this group to also spread word if they see ICE around.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.

The United States and other capitalist empires, using their proxy government in Rwanda and an allied armed group, have carried out a massive escalation in the war in eastern Congo. There is widespread death and displacement following the capture of a key city, Goma, and fears are growing that the fighting will spread to new parts of the country.
The goal of western governments and their allies is to facilitate the plunder of Congo’s natural resources and the corporate profits that go with it.

I just listened to this. Thought I’d share. https://youtu.be/5EDKRGkgLsI?si=RsINevwVXacv_i2s
I’ve seen a decent amount of socialists comment in other threads ripping into people who have lost jobs and income because of the recent executive orders. They’re bashing career choices, or that certain industries are tools of the capitalist class and those people working for them, well boohoo.
As people living in this society we have to participate in capitalism wherever we like it or not. We all need to be housed, eat, buy shit, and survive the best was we can. Some of us picked jobs when we were younger that we have idealogical problems with or we understand the defects of the industry and choose to stay so we can hopefully make change from within. I know people who work in all kinds of industries who are socialist or socialist leaning and their job doesn’t define them.
Correct me if I’m wrong but shouldn’t the goal of socialism to be creating community and getting people on our side so we can create change and start dismantling these systems of oppression? Not gloating that someone working in Government/foreign aid etc have lost their jobs. A lot of these people get into jobs hoping to help others and build them up. I would think these people are exactly the kind of people we would want on our side. They may not be perfect socialists but we all need to start somewhere.
Revolutions never happened because of an individual. There have always been communities behind them. Socialism has gotten a bad wrap by the huge decades long propaganda campaign against it and we need to do good work of promoting ideas that lead to a better society not contributing to its awful public image.
Now I hope the people commenting are Feds or conservative trolls and not actual ML’s. But if that’s the case then that’s also pretty damaging to the movement.
TLDR: shouldn’t the socialist movement be about creating communities and working together to dismantle oppression not acting morally superior and alienating others.
What can we do to help? In light of the events going on in the US, such as the recent decision the blocking of trans people from obtaining passports, and the slew of other abhorrent actions, how can we best help from a far?
I’ve been looking into joining an organization near me, and most of the chapters on the sites link out to Facebook groups. I deleted my Meta accounts, kind of a bummer.
can the professional class be radicalized? i think so, but how?
i do dei for an anti-poverty network that serves 30 agencies. they are filled with with masters degrees making decent salaries, but with little to no meaningful wealth / power.
the conditions in many our non-profits are shitty and uninspiring + re-creatingcapitalist / colonialist systems, making radicalization possible for these folks (especially of their bipoc, queer, a first generation college student, single parent, etc.).
thoughts?
