Drivers/Commuters to Manhattan will appreciate this

The part of i-278 that is always clogged up between Hamilton Avenue and Manhattan Bridge is usually really bad because of all these merges.

Then there are those stupid people that drive on the shoulder and merge in ahead. I hate them with a passion. I think they make the traffic much worse.

For the past couple of days, I've seen police motorcycles or SUVs block the shoulders. I really think it helped move the traffic along

Ok I'm done complaining.

Just survived a lanternfly attack

I felt a "leaf" land on my collar. Grabbed it and threw it off when I saw: A lanternfly. It knew I had killed its fellows and had gone for my throat in revenge. I stomped it, (I'm doing my part!) before it was too late. I'm worried the next will succeed.

Self parking near juniors restaurant

I don't mind walking 20 minutes or so. Last time I parked for 25 bucks at the botanical gardens and took the subway but hoping for something closer. I'd only need 90 min or so.

Gowanus ringing / gonging sound

Does anyone know what the loud ringing or gonging sound is that happens multiple times a day in Gowanus? Seems to be centered near the Gowanus Whole Foods. Mainly on weekdays between 6:30-3 or so. I'm assuming it comes from the cement place that's right there, but I'd still love to know what exactly causes the sound!

Funny

About a month I posted on here looking for help with a puppy I just rescued looking where I could get shots and grooming for little to no cost and everyone was baeking at me like if I can't afford the vet I don't deserve the pet... well update I got him groomed, all of his shots, microchipped. Also tons of toys, a bed and everything he could ask for, and the best part was I didn't pay a thing!!! So for all you rude people just trying too take my dog who is now my service dog I'm laughing at you scammers trying to take a dog that I love and adore and take care of all day long.... I'm on public assistantance and found many programs that help people like me afford a dog like this. So before you go saying surrender a dog maybe you should just help that person asking for help.

My building doesn’t have a fire escape… is this legal

We moved into a new unit this month in a pretty nice building near cobble hill. The only thing that’s jumped out to us is that the unit only has one door to the hallway, a balcony, and no fire escape.

Is there any reason this would be allowable?

Hard frosted cookies

Hey y’all, happy Saturday! I am trying to find hard frosted/iced cookies for my wife’s birthday. I’ve been having a hard time finding some non-stored bought options. Any Brooklyn bakery recommendations? Much appreciated 👻

Terminal 5 opinion

Do you guys think the sound system is pretty good there? Nice and loud? Or unfinished basement vibe?

What are some well-known “Brooklyn Treasures?” This is for a writing assignment

It’s a short paper I have to do—any ideas? I want something I can research somewhat.

Edit: any nonprofit ideas?

Stores selling Mallomars near Cobble Hill/BoerumHill/Downtown BK?

I know this is a niche request, but does anyone know of any grocery stores or bodegas that sell Mallomars near Cobble Hill / Boerum Hill / Downtown BK? Can also be other nearby neighborhoods.

A friend of mine is dealing with a tragic death in the family and I'm sending him a care package of his favorite snacks. I've tried about 5 or 6 grocery stores nearby with no luck. Thanks in advance!

Good bars to pre-game before a Barclay's Center concert

Does anyone have recommendations for a good bar, preferably large (my group will be 6-8 people) within a short walk of Barclay's Center? Good food and IPA's a plus.

Dirt Removal - Where To?

I need to remove about 8" of good top soil from a sidewalk adjacent garden plot (20' x 10') in Brooklyn Heights. All plants and roots have already been removed. I have bodies and shovels to move the dirt off the plot, now I need to find a new home for the dirt. Any ideas of how to transport this, and to where? Anyone want to come get dirt? I'm working with a very, very limited budget.

Early 2000s furniture store on Court St. ?

Anyone remember the furniture store on Court St. maybe near 1st or 2nd place on the west side of the street? I know it’s random but I bought furniture from there back in 2006 and was hoping for a name or something. Thanks if you remember!

A poem about a Brooklyn rat. They were here before us. New Yorkers seem to hate them. Maybe a different point of view? Feel free to share.

Mr. Subway Rat, With Injured Foot

I can be your friend,

oh little rat,

for I know the life you lead.

I have wandered where you wander,

in more ways than I can recall.

That is why I admire you so,

your tiny pink feet,

ears like soft whispers of the street.

How you scurry beneath the world,

and how they flee at the sight of you,

scampering to and fro,

their fear—your quiet power.

That, I love most of all:

the way you rattle their bones,

the way you make them run.

I’ll slip you in my pocket,

take you home,

and together we’ll sing songs,

drink deep of dark brews.

No one will know

that once, you were a subway rat,

without a home,

just like me.

You know what becomes of us all,

not so far from now.

That is why, my little friend,

you can trust me, for I am true.

No harm will I ever let touch you.

No tears shall you ever shed,

and no dreams of screeching steel

shall haunt your sleep.

You will rest safe with me,

and no truer friend will ever you find.

I’ll watch over you until your days are done.

This is my vow, and it is true.

For I will save you,

from all traps, and glues,

from the grasp of harm.

Really, I will.

My best friend, Mr. Rat!
