Third Annual Halloween Photo Booth (hosted by a cat)

This was my 3rd year doing my Halloween Photo Booth where I stand on the corner of Bainbridge Street and Malcolm X Boulevard for 3 hours and photograph kids and families in their costumes.

I do it as a way to thank the neighborhood for taking such good care of my (our?) cat Bed-Stuy Tofu, who is living his best cat life running up and down Bainbridge Street.

Tonight I shot 262 portraits -- up from 153 in 2022 and 197 in 2023 -- and I'm already trying to figure out how 2025 will be even bigger and better.

This year I actually had a candy sponsor, a balloon sponsor, and a printing sponsor.

Grey tabby sighted at prospect park

Not a stray!

I was biking thru and almost hit a healthy looking tabby who was very anxious and stressed. It did not move like a stray you could tell it was confused and panicked like it had never been outside. If you are missing a cat near the west side of prospect park I spotted it around here. I tried searching for it, a couple said it was looking to me and stopped when I papspspsps’d it. I could not for the life of me find it after I tried :/ this was at 9:30 PM Halloween night. Hoping this helps someone!

Last minute venue for a bachelor party

Myself and a bunch of my boys planned a bachelor party for a friend for Saturday night however the venue fell through.

We are currently looking for a last-minute place that will not break the bank that allows us to bring in our own food and alcohol.

As far as location goes. We’re looking for anywhere in downtown Brooklyn or close to that

If anyone has an idea, it would be greatly appreciated.

2 days in brooklyn - where to eat

I'm fat. Live in the the sticks with no delivery anything. I usually hit L&B spumoni for 2 or 3 sicilians and freeze slices once or twice a year. Driving down with a freezer and a food saver monday for 2 days. Plan to eat and walk my dog that's bout it. Hotels booked, just need pizza place ideas. Lemme have it.

Hoyt-schermerhorn - got slapped by stranger

I still haven't fully processed what just happened. I went to the Hoyt-Schermerhorn subway station and was waiting for the G train when suddenly a black guy came from behind and said, "you bumped me bro, say it". The train had just arrived that point and I mumbled I didn't and stepped towards the train as I didn't want to make any eye contact or anything. And this fucking 6ft black guy slaps me hard on the back of my head. I didn't know how to react. The sound made people look towards me but you know how NYC is. He just went on his way and I stepped into the train not knowing what the fuck happened.

I am an immigrant, and I really like Brooklyn and NYC, the people, etc. I have met amazing people, but this experience has left a really bitter taste in my mouth. Now I think I'm gonna avoid this station coz it's surrounded by homeless people, rather I'd go to Fulton which is just a little bit further. My heart specially goes out to women who constantly feel unsafe.

I am glad I was alone, otherwise my wife would have been traumatised by it. Nonetheless, I don't know how long it'd take me to forget this and be in a better mood.

Edit: Thank you for all the comments, people who shared their experiences, and others who encouraged to look at the positives the city has to offer.

I'll consider filing a police report tomorrow. And just wanted to clarify, I didn't bump him or anyone at all. I was fully aware of myself, no headphones, not using the phone or anything. I'm the type of person who would bend all awkward ways to avoid being in physical contact with someone even in a crowded street, out of respect. So I am pretty sure he was either out of his mind, or just being racist towards me.

Moving here soon, any boxing gym and fencing gyms you recommend?

Hello I'm looking to move here soon and wanted to see if there's any boxing gyms and fencing gyms that I could join. I mainly train in boxing and I do fencing on the side for fun and for cardio exercise

For context I am 27 y/o male from Laos and I'm low to intermediate level in both sports. I train in soviet style boxing but I am open minded in training a new style. Budget is on the lower end but don't mind spending a bit more for a solid gym.

Moving back to Brooklyn from Tennessee in 8 months, any recommendations?

I currently attend a Baptist church in Clarksville, TN where fellowship is a huge aspect of how our congregation operates. About 70-80 people attend our only service on Sunday. Super close knit church family where everyone is open with each other, truly what God desires. I need something as close to that as possible where the gospel is being preached, both the teaching and worship music feed the body, the love between brothers & sisters in Christ is VERY apparent.

The Invalid Aquarium is Back. . .

Looks like the degenerates who were running it the first time got some help to innovate the already bad idea into a worse version 2.0. What’s your guess for how long it lasts before shut down again? I hope it’s sooner than later, that’s for sure!

ripped return envelope for mail in voting - what to do?

prefacing this by saying i have tried calling the election board. ive called literally ten times and after sitting through the hold music, the phone rings then the call ends.

when putting my envelope in my bag to go to the post office, it snagged on something and ripped open. JUST the external envelope. the interior one and the ballot are fine. i dont know what to do and i can't find anything online. can i turn it in to my local election place? should i take it to the official place downtown? i don't think i'm eligible to vote in person anymore since i requested a mail in ballot, so i think election day in person is out of the question.

i'm gonna try calling more, but putting this out there in case i still cant get through.

For Bay Ridge residents - about what time on Sunday will the NYC marathon runners pass through the neighborhood?

I’d like to watch them come through since I missed it last year.

Marathon Street Vendors

I’m going to be in Brooklyn, near Sunset Park, this weekend for work. With the marathon happening Sunday are there generally vendors out near the course selling street food or food trucks?

Queer Barber in Brooklyn

Wavelength Barber & Salon is a queer barbershop in brooklyn, I got my hair cut by So Mak and it was a great experience! They were very polite, made sure to inquire very specifically about what I wanted, and were okay with me being vocal about any changes I may have wanted mid cut. Their space is also very clean and organized which was appreciated. I definitely recommend gettint your hair cut by So!

Construction on Clinton at BQE utter shitshow for pedestrians

I walked to my early voting site this morning and the construction on the crossing on Clinton to Red Hook was appalling - it's a very car traffic-heavy area (obviously) and there was no safe place to cross. The construction worker waved me into the middle of an active street in order to cross over. I would have headed home if I didn't love democracy (and want that cool Halloween early voting sticker.) I ended up taking the B57 back for safety reasons. Whoever runs that construction site (during early voting none the less), shame on you. I feel terrible for people who have to traverse that site daily.

Caroll Gardens

Hey everyone I’m taking my nephew and little brother trick or treating tonight last minute. The plan is apparently caroll gardens as they apparently were able to fill a bag there easily last year. My sister who took them forget exactly where they started so does anyone know a nearby businesses address that’s a good starting point ?

Need private dinner / party venue recs!

Hey everyone, I’m hosting a private event for about 50-80 people and I’m looking for a place that can accommodate a nice sit down dinner followed by dancing (preferably somewhere that already has a good sound system installed.) Location would ideally be williamsburg, greenpoint, clinton hill, bushwick, ridgewood area. Budget is flexible, more just exploring my options at the moment. Any recommendations that check these boxes? Thank you !!!

Medical weight loss doctor/clinic

Looking for personal recommendations for medical weight loss doctors/clinics. I am coming to terms with my inability to get my health under control and would like to explore options with a professional. I have good insurance with Aetna but would check that after getting feedback from anyone that has someone.

Looking for a place that offers more than just surgery. Anywhere in the city/brooklyn/queens works fine.
