Working in a cocktail bar

I’m looking to transition from my serving job at an Irish pub to a more upscale, cocktail focused bar.

I’m wondering if anyone has a neighborhood recommendation or good experiences working for hospitality groups/bars in the city that aren’t in hotels.

Looking in Tribeca, UES, Financial District!!

Outdoor dining is over (for now) in NYC—sheds are out, new rules are in. Here’s how you can help shape the future of outdoor dining.

As of yesterday, all outdoor dining sheds across New York City had to be taken down. Or face fines of up to $1,000.

This is just one example of how the city’s new law is burdensome to small businesses– making it expensive and difficult for them to operate outdoor dining at all. Advocates for outdoor dining argue that New York City's new regulations are overly burdensome and create inequities across neighborhoods.

You can influence outdoor dining establishments, especially those in your neighborhood, by engaging your community board.

Another way to get involved is to engage with the advocacy groups that shape policy changes. Donate to Open Plans now, and get your donation matched to double your impact. Your support pays for their organizers to advocate for a truly sustainable outdoor dining program, one that operates year-round. Here's their donation page: https://www.openplans.org/support-outdoor-dining

Landlord pissed that I put in my notice

Been here 14 months, the last two being month-to-month as my original lease expired in September. Since then, I’ve asked multiple times for a new lease agreement, to which the responses were “I’ll send it by tonight.” Never did, whatever.

Neighborhood has increasingly gotten unsafe. BF was mugged and the dudes outside selling weed/crack on the steps is a bit much. So I’ve made these issues a point, to which the LL said he’d look into installing cameras/gates. Other tenants have made the same complaints.

As of last week, I’ve signed a new lease in a safer, bigger, cheaper apartment. Even though I’m on no lease, I’ve respected the 30-45 day notice to give the LL and notified him upon signing. He never got back to me, until today when the broker told me he’s listing the unit. Sweet- I’m out January 1 anyway, show it all ya want.

I get a phone call from LL saying “how disappointed he is in me” for leaving so suddenly, and that he’s spent so much time/money installing new security. Bruh. What security?!? Been weeks and still no changes to the property/issues—and if and when it is installed, other tenants who complained will benefit from it. Then he said I’ve put him in “a terrible, terrible situation since this is the worst time of year to move” which is…not my problem. Sorry dude. I asked for the lease and you refused.

So now it’s listed for $100 more than originally priced; has no new features; and I feel like he may be an asshole about getting my deposit back.

Brunch Options (West Village)

Hi all! Anyone have good recs for a brunch spot (bottomless or boozy) in the WV area that can sit around 10 people?

I’m mostly a Brooklyn girlie but I’ve got folks coming in from Jersey and trying to find a middle ground.

Thanks so much!

Traveling to New York in January tips/advice?

I am planning on traveling to New York for 4 days and 3 nights with a friend (both of us are 20) for fun in January. I just wanted to know what advice everyone has and any tips they could give me. Looking to get the most out of this trip whilst staying safe, and visiting landmarks like the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Time Square, and most importantly the pizza.... Just want to know your guy's thoughts on this trip and if you think it's a bad/good idea? Should we go somewhere else instead? Really just looking to travel anywhere thats cool and we'll have a good time in.

Anyone playing touch football on Thanksgiving?

My girlfriend and I are visiting NYC this week and we're hoping to join someone playing touch football on Thursday. I know this might be cliche, but we really want to do it.

We are not super athletic but can play sports (we actually play football and soccer on Christmas and New Year's with our families).

We are staying in Bayonne but we are planning on going to Manhattan for the Thanksgiving parade, so we can join after the parade.

Strollers in NYC

Parents of manhattan, iso stroller help.

Hello, I’m visiting this weekend with my 3 & 6 year old. We have a city mini gt double I was planning to bring since it collapses super easily but will we have issues getting it into cabs and stores etc??

Should I be bringing two single strollers instead? I know my 6 yr old will be cold and complain walking a lot so want a stroller and blanket available.

We have a city mini gt single so that’s no issue but only other one is a bob which is a beast

Any ideas/advice?

What would be the best way to reach out someone that might have take it and has a good faith?

It was in between acne studios and chrome hearts.

Are there any Disco clubs/nights with younger people?

I'm 22 and I've been curious about going anywhere with classic disco. By that I mean the basic stuff like bees gees and whatnot, I'm not a connoisseur by any means, I just wanna have fun. But are there any places in Manhattan that do this? Particularly with younger people? This isn't meant to be offensive, I just don't know about dancing around people 20+ years older than me.

Taking a day trip: advice

I’m going on a day trip with my boyfriend based around seeing a show at Webster Hall tomorrow, what fun things can I get up to before the show at 7? We like food, weird art shit, sight seeing, fun novelty/consignment/thrift shops. Let me know, thanks!

Edit: also any advice on where to park? I would like to park my car and not have to use it for the rest of the day.

Bronx/Manhattan street photographers

Hey, I'm going to post this to a few NY neighbourhood groups (already posted in the Bronx group). I'm coming to NY next September for some business meetings and was wondering if any photographers from bronx/manhattan might fancy meeting up/feel comfortable to accompany me and going a wander? I'm gonna be in midtown/manhattan for work and staying in the bronx. I'm a photographer during my spare time but would love if a local would like to show me around or buddy-up for an afternoon walking around?

I'm 33, female and from Scotland.

Help with recommendations for restaurants and what to eat during visit. Especially Ramen.

Hello All. I posted a few months ago about a trip to NYC, but it fell through. We did reschedule the trip for this weekend! I appreciate all the wonderful suggestions for things to do last time. And now I'm hoping for some food suggestions. I cross posted this to r/FoodNYC.

Our family is heading to NYC this weekend and I had a few questions about food. We are staying in the Lower East Side but we'll be going everywhere like East village, Greenwich Village, Chelsea, etc... basically everywhere from mid to lower manhattan and also brooklyn and possibly Staten Island.

  1. Best Ramen place. This one is very important to my daughter.

  2. Best place to get bagels.

  3. Best Pizza- Staten Island? Brooklyn? A place in Manhattan?

  4. A diner for breakfast. Maybe one that has real orange juice where real oranges are fed into the juice machine, but that is a nice bonus. We are more concerned with a good diner.

  5. Are there any can't miss restaurants or foods? We have no plans for lunch or dinner on our last day and we're looking for suggestions.

Thank you all for your suggestions ahead of time. I will only be able to reply sporadically because I'm busy doing laundry, packing and other last minute stuff.

Thanks!!
