Does anyone know of anywhere selling trees in Bensonhurst?
Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving, Bensonhurst! Currently, it’s raining and later, there’s almost a 100% chance of… turkey?
I’d really like your input on what meetup concepts you’d like to go to.
Regarding meetups in our lovely, little neighborhood, I’ve successfully done a billiards meetup, a bowling meetup, a tea meetup, while failing to get any interest in a sushi meetup, a walking meetup and a movie meetup. Having decently more success doing meetups in manhattan and downtown Brooklyn, I’m curious if I’m approaching Bensonhurst with the wrong type of meetups.
I’d really like to meet new people in Bensonhurst apart from my small, little bubble. I’d really like your feedback on these questions.
Would you be open to meetups in Bensonhurst, as someone that lives here? I know it feels like there’s not much to do here.
What kinds of meetups would you suggest/attend?
If not Bensonhurst, what neighborhood would you recommend in neighboring areas? Bay Ridge? Dyker Heights? Coney Island? Gravesend? What types of meetups would you recommend in them?
Lastly, if not a reddit meetup, where would you recommend going in Bensonhurst to organically meet new people? Any advice would be appreciated!
I’ve lived here for over 10 years and have seen a couple rats by a restaurant late at night once, but I just saw a HUGE gray one run out of a trash can next to my home at 4 pm. My neighbor said she’s seen a couple out at daytime. I’m so freaked out now, ready to move. Have you seen them near you too?
Hey there, NYC!
In particular, I’m talking to you, south Brooklyn! Where are the Bensonhurst, Dyker, Bay Ridge, Gravesend, Bath Beach, Coney Island people at?
Who’s down to go to Sake Sushi tomorrow before the holidays are in full swing? Roughly $31.50 per person for dinner AYCE sushi. I’d like to limit it at 6 people. Please comment and/or pm if interested!

I’ve noticed Bensonhurst/Gravesend/Coney Island is very limited on their vegan and vegetarian options, especially when it comes to grocery items and restaurants…
My husband and I were chatting away and sparked the idea of opening up a vegan grocery store that also sells food/sandwiches (think Orchard Grocer in LES).
I was wondering if anyone else was in the same boat and would love it if a vegan/vegetarian specialty spot opened up in our neighborhood! If we get a positive response, it’s possible your new favorite plant-based breakfast/lunch spot will be coming as soon as 2025 ✨
On another note, what are some of your favorite vegan restaurants (or restaurants with vegan options)?
Ours are:
Did anyone watch the recent Community Board Nr 11 meeting and notice them mention that the nitric dioxide levels are very high near Belt Parkway, Bay Parkway and some other areas? Does anyone know which report they are referring to? https://www.youtube.com/live/cX0Jo86SRzQ?si=r9WKttjNNMrLqSJG
Hi there! I recently found this paper that showed a correlation between Big 5 personality traits and neighborhood choice in the Greater London Area. I wanted to see if these results could be replicated in NYC.
Calling all NYC residents (spread the word to your partners and friends too) I'm looking for more responses to this survey :) I will share results promptly so long as I can get a sufficient sample size quickly, I'm looking for 8k-18k responses to ensure statistical validity.
The survey will also give you your Big 5 Personality scores as an incentive. Open to suggestions. I really appreciate this community for it's support.
Usually, running (or whatever they do) groups are early in the morning in manhattan or queens. I’m not sure I’ve seen any in Brooklyn?
This is a non-traditional take on a running group. Would anyone be open to jogging/running/walking on Sundays 4:00pm starting by Caesar’s Bay shopping mall side along the Gravesend Bay? Roughly 1-2 hours of cardio activity, followed by food after.
Hey there, South Brooklyn!
Been a while since I’ve posted a billiards event here and I always love going to Gotham! Super affordable (as low as $14 for 3 hours of continuous play (only before 4pm though)), good lighting, and great community.
Looking to meet other locals like myself and avoid that dreaded 1 hour train ride to the city to have a good time and make friends.
Location: 93 Avenue U Brooklyn NY 11223
Limited to 4 people (1 table) to 8 people (2 tables). Pm if interested. Thanks and have an amazing night!

Good morning, Reddit! Hope everyone’s having an amazing day so far!
Posting/promoting a local treasure in the South Brooklyn area: the Abe Stark Ice Skating Rink in Coney Island! Jeez, that’s a handful to type.
I’ve been here a few times in the last few years and it’s always a fun place to fall forwards, backwards (usually me), or skate perfectly (never me) while laughing your head off as you’re making new friends!
Entry is $13, skate rental is $7. Public skating is 12:30pm - 3:30pm. You could end up skating the whole 3 hours for $20, if you wanted to!
I’ll probably be able to arrive by 2:30 or 3:00. If the former, I’ll get an hour of ice skating in. If 3:00, I’ll just walk by the beach a bit. Around 4:00pm, a friend and I are going to Hook n Reel for seafood buffet / all you can eat and we’d love to meet new people!
Note: whether or not I can make the ice skating, I hope others can have fun ice skating at this local rink!
Location: 1902 W 19th St, Brooklyn, NY 11214
Any updates on the homeless shelter?
It’s technically in Gravesend right on the border, but this place is delicious. Highly recommend, they have delivery deals too.
Today, I went back and I tried the above (it’s a handful to type or say) at Butcher’s Burger. This time, I didn’t see it as a smash burger and for a $16 burger, it had a decent amount of meat, juicy meat, and a generous amount of cheese. This time I ordered the vegetables on the side with no extra cost.
As a regular burger, it’s an 8/10. I still wouldn’t consider it a smash burger.
Hey there, Bensonhurst!
Does anyone know if the ice skating rink in Coney Island is open yet? Has anyone gone recently?
The website is still referring to October ‘23 - March ‘24 so it hasn’t been updated yet online.
For anyone else interested, it’s generally open between October and March on Saturdays, Sundays and particular holidays.
Thanks in advance for any info!
Gone are the days you’d have to travel to park slope, north Brooklyn or manhattan for a tasty smash burger.
If you haven’t checked it out already, this is a Double Wagyu Smash Burger from Hangover Burger, located at 2013 86th St, Brooklyn NY 11214, formerly the location of Moge Tea, and Eats n Poke. A bit pricey at $12 and change but worth every bite of delicious goodness.
Open effort to beautify the area with a clean up will occur the morning of organized by Street Lab. Street Lab will also bring some of their programs geared towards kids and art engagement.
Or why not make a day of it and do all three?
Hey there, Reddit! There's never much going on in our little neighborhood of Bensonhurst so here's an event idea (not planned yet) for a day in the upcoming 20 days.
For dinner, which we're definitely having, it would be at Sake Sushi AYCE by the D train.
For billiards, it would be Gotham City Billiards on Ave U.
For dessert, it would be Prince Tea House or Mango Mango.
For just dinner and billiards, it would be roughly under 40 dollars at the minimum pp and 2-2.5 hours in total. (Accounting for an hour each and walking time.)
For just dinner and dessert (one dessert, one drink?) , it would be roughly under 50-60 dollars pp at the minimum and 1.5-2 hours in total.
For all three combined in one hectic, fun 3-4 hour schedule, it would be roughly under 60-70 per person.
These are all rough estimates and stated higher just in case. Please comment if it's something you'd be interested in this idea, which combination you prefer best, any suggestions, etc.
I'd like to use this post to start inner-neighborhood exploration for hidden gems and new friends, and to inspire others in our neighborhood of Bath Beach / Bensonhurst and other surrounding areas, who are semi-tired of going to northern Brooklyn and Manhattan all the time for fun events, to do the same.
Hey there, Reddit!
Looking to do another bowling meetup this week. Made a new friend and had a lot of fun last week and hoping to meet others in Bath Beach / Bensonhurst / Gravesend, basically South (geographically) Brooklyn or anyone that’s passing by the neighborhood!
Pricing, as I recall, is $25 for 2 hours with shoe rental included.
Location: 1 Bouck Ct. , Brooklyn NY 11223 Transit: B1 or take the F train (probably Coney Island bound) to Ave X.
