Hi I was just accepted into the Writing program as a transfer and was wondering what it was like! I’m also interested in the Book minor, if anyone could give me info on either of these / their experience in the majors that’d be great
I’m currently a graphic design student thinking to switch to interaction design.will Pratt be a good option?
It says in the portfolio section I need like 12 submitted pieces, but the writing sample says i can only submit 10 pages. When I try to through slide room under the media section it makes me submit something in the portfolio. What do I do?! Please help
Hi everyone, I'm an Industrial design student and my project is trying to design a navigation device for new hiking people. I don't want to design an app because people get into the woods are supposed to enjoy the view instead of typing in a cave. The problems I found for current products is their 3d version of mapping and lack of "time to go back" notifications unless you flip your device in your palm.
What do you all think about this idea? What do you find the most annoying carrying a navigation device around? And what feature would you focus on if you are redesigning such an item? This will help me a lot!
Hello everyone!!!
I am participating in an internship and need 150 thoughtful responses to this survey: (https://mind-the-class-git-dev-mind-the-class.vercel.app/en/survey?key=d2903369-223f-4adf-9058-d5a20072b9dc)
WHAT IS IT? - This public health survey is designed to assess different areas of psychological health and identify protective factors that help prevent mental health issues. Once completed, the survey provides personalized "scores" for your Psychological Health and Protective Factors. Additionally, it generates a MindArch Health Action Plan or MAHAP (pronounced m-a-p) — a tailored roadmap to maintain and improve your mental well-being.
WHY SHOULD I TAKE IT? - By participating in this survey, you’ll gain valuable insights into your mental health and receive a personalized action plan based on your responses. Whether or not you currently face mental health challenges, taking this survey helps you be proactive in building psychological resilience and managing stress in your life.
Taking a few moments to reflect on your mental health can be a great investment in your overall well-being. The survey is open to anyone aged 12 and above, and I genuinely believe it could benefit everybody! :)
Thank you in advance if you decide to participate! (survey is all multiple choice and should take around 3-5 mins to complete)
I’m 31 and starting over in life. I’ve always been passionate about interior design, but never pursuit a career in it. I’ve decided I want to get my BFA and am looking at Pratt Institute. What is the best way to go about it? I have an associates and a bachelors and a completely different field. Should I apply at Pratt as a first year student? Or do I transfer my Gen-Ed classes already completed? Should I get an Associates from a community college and transfer?
I would love to hear from anyone who applied, got accepted, or graduated from Pratt about your experience with applying and the degree program itself.
it’s my senior year and I think I might have to take 6 classes/ 18 credits in the spring semester. I need 6 credits of gen ed liberal arts but I already have a big workload with my senior thesis - does anyone know any gen ed liberal arts classes that have a really light workload and are pretty easy?
i applied early admission (oct 1) for a graduate program. does anyone know when i might expect an admission decision?
So basically I'm planning on applying to the Pratt Institute, but I have quite a few questions as I cannot seem to find any information about them online. I am particularly interested in the Interior Design course. Does anybody know what are the deadlines for sending in all of the neccessary documents? And could any of the current students look at my current pieces of work and tell me if IN YOUR OPINION this portfolio is even worth a shot? I could send them via a private messege and would be really thankfull for some honest opinions.
Of course if there are any tips of ques you could give me I would be very thankful :3
Hi reddit,
Currently writing a piece about how Pratt should provide its student musicians with practice rooms for the Prattler, and I was interested to know if Pratt ever has an active music scene on campus and how has the music scene in the past years come to the situation now. By "now," I mean how the Interfaith Commons, which was previously the Chapel, came to nearly ban music practicing out of noise concern.
One of my classmate, who is also a musician, who looked at my piece suggested it would be fun to find out how Pratt's music scene declined. Also reasons why the Chapel is renovated will be helpful.
I am also interested in what happens to the Music Club, which used to be at the Chapel.
Anything would be greatly appreciated!
I see people always saying after CC they're going to transfer to a higher end university but with Pratt either way you're doing the 4 years so is it truly better to go to Pratt or just go with whatever college your CC has a contract with
I'm planning on transferring to Illustration as my major but wanted to know what its like before jumping on that. I would like to become a concept artist or maybe storyboader? and was I wondering if illustration is the right program for that? or if animation is better and if so how is that major? I am a bit set on going for illustration cuz it feels like it'll have more opportunities since its seems more generalized than specifically animation.
hi ! The prompt for a supplemental essay this year for applications is: “Write about a piece of work (visual art, musical performance, piece of writing, architecture, or design) that has influenced you and describe the impact it has had on your perspective OR write about a piece of your own work and the impact that creating it has had on you.“ I chose to write about a piece of work that had influenced me, but the first that came to mind is a tv show. So, I was wondering if that counts as a visual art/writing or if I should stick to something more traditional?
So I went on a college tour for pratt and I had been planning to do the tour for a few weeks before. It is a commute for me to go and visit so I let my professors know beforehand but one of them decided to make our exam on the day I was going to be gone. He understood that I wouldn't been there but asked that I get some kind of note or proof that I was at the tour to excuse my absence. Long story short I forgot to grab one at the end of the tour so is there a way to get one now? Or does anyone have a copy of what the note would look like so maybe I can try and do something with that. I need it by the end of the day so I'm freaking out a little lol
Hello, I am an international student looking to transfer into Pratt but I'm very confused about the whole process (and transferring in general)
Currently, looking at Pratt's website there's no mention of BFA transfers being open for 2025? Does this mean that no BFA transfer applications will be accepted in 2025?
I am confused as to how credits transfer exactly, are there any specific credit requirements? (Like you must have done painting or art history etc) that I need to fulfil?
For Pratt and other schools, if I am required to complete certain specific credits to join at the year I want, can I complete online or other short term courses to make up this lack? If I can do online courses, what courses are accepted by Pratt and even other institutes?
I know for international students we have to send our transcripts to WES or NACES to get it verified, I've asked them the same question as to what sort of courses will they evaluate for my application, but haven't got a reply.

Hello! I am 27 and have been thinking of going back to school for photography. But feel slightly old and not sure if it's the best choice. I have some experience, and my portfolio is kind of everywhere. Learning pn my own and building a career with no educational background feels like im walking on unstable grounds. (That could just be some self doubt) I really want to make this a career and do more with the art in my life. Is it possible to go back for this BFA? I'm already living I NYC and have to work of course, so im not sure if I can be full time. Any input or advice would be appreciated. Feel very much at a crossroads.
I am a prospective student looking into Pratt's M.S program in Sustainable Environmental Systems. To give context, I graduated from Boston University with a bachelors in Economics and a minor in Environmental analysis & policy. I am very interested in city planning, but recently have been found myself leaning more towards a sustainability-focused track(Particularly in the floodplain resilience and green infrastructure). Has anyone had experience with the S.E.S program at Pratt? It looks very cool and progressive but I'm worried it may not be very rigorous compared to other more reputable programs in the city.
I’m a college student looking into transferring into Pratt’s 2D Animation dept but other than their own website I’m having trouble trying to find anything online detailing the quality of the program.
I’m very interested in this, so any and all feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you
Like actually so fucking bored I know you people are hiding... the club will happen... it will be lit idgaf
I want to transfer out of my major and I was wondering what the majors in the title are like? I'm torn between the two. Things like what are the classes like for them? Will I have to buy a lot of things after joining? Computer specs? What do you learn in game design specifically? Just any info on the majors from someone whos already in them would be cool :)
Hi guys! I’m planning on attending pratt for the 2025-2026 year and I’m concerned about the transfer scholarship amount. On the calculator website, it says we’re only awarded 18k maximum, split between four years. That’s quite low. Can any transfers tell me how much they received in financial aid/ scholarships.
Please forgive my ignorance - I did the Pratt Summer Pre-College many moons ago and distinctly remember seeing the award winning Pratt Cats in the engine room and wandering about campus. Today, I've returned as Pratt Faculty and though wowed by the renewed East Plaza renovation, am floored by the conspicuous absence of the Pratt Cats. Were they adopted/rehoused?
Hi, I'm applying to transfer into the architecture program next year and I'm currently setting up my portfolio to submit with my application. I was wondering if anyone would let me see the portfolio they applied with and got accepted with. If not then any tips or advice would also be appreciated.
