I have read an alarming number of comments advocating for taking the homes of immigrants impacted by deportations, particularly in the Bed-Stuy and downtown areas. Brooklyn has always been a melting pot where everyone is welcome. This sense of inclusivity is why people continue to feel safe moving into communities like Bed-Stuy. However, hateful and divisive individuals now seek to take the homes and businesses that have thrived here.

Additionally, many newcomers to these communities seem to disregard the importance of supporting the small businesses that have always relied on community support, but that's a discussion for another time.

What can be done to preserve Brooklyn and maintain the qualities that make it the warm melting pot it is? I refuse to believe that everyone is filled with hate. I am unsure what it means or what it looks like to preserve Brooklyn, but I want to explore how we can achieve this.

As the title says, I am originally from Pakistan and for the most part of 2023 to now, I have been unemployhed due to my immigration from Pakistan to the US (I only got my green card + work permit in June of '24, I entered the US in Jan '24) and during that time, I was unable to do any job, but even with my green card + EAD, I am unable to get any job despite having 5+ years of experience in experiential marketing, activations, social media / PR campaigns, and more. I have tried every tweak/trick under the sun to perfect my resume, but I only hear back from MLM/DevilCorp comapnies.

I am now looking to go to places where I can network with people who can understand that despite my work experience and education being from abroad, I am more than eager to work in ANY office job where I can use my skills.

I am currently working at a very toxic food service job where a female employee can commit murder in broad daylight, and I will be blamed for it. its driving me to depression, even though its helping pay the bills. No matter what the female employees do, I am constantly thrown under the bus of "ok, they did X (literal food contamination) and your point is????????"

I already tried WorkForce1 and other NYC resources, but they all send me to manual labor jobs like construction, which I am unable to do due to complications with a surgery impeding me from working with heavy lifting, and I would not like to be a hazard to myself or others in the workplace.

I’ve been caring for a friend’s jungle of indoor plants for six months while he’s been traveling. A few have not done well — first a couple over the summer and now a few more over the winter. I’d like to buy new ones to surprise him when he returns next month, but since they are dead and I am not a horticulturist, I don’t know how to even identify them, much less find them in Brooklyn. Any suggestions from my plant people on this sub?

Also, a couple of small pots were (I think) basil and mint on the kitchen windowsill. Are there different varieties (been looking online and am so confused 🤦🏻‍♀️) and are they even available at this time of year?

My Great Aunt who suffers from dementia went missing the morning of 1/29/2025.

Her name is Shengping Chen. She is 5'2" and 120 lbs. She was last seen wearing black pants, a black jacket, white/pink socks/slippers. She is primarily Wenzhounese speaking and we that believe she may be walking around on foot.

She was last confirmed seen walking towards Nostrand Avenue from Church Avenue on 1/29/2025. However, that same day she may have possibly been seen at Interfaith Medical Center on Atlantic Ave but walked out and may have been looking for the 2 train, which is the only lead we have.

We have contacted NYPD and filed a missing persons report, as well as reached out to all the hospitals in Brooklyn and in lower Manhattan.

If anyone has any information please PM me or contact the NYPD directly. Any information is helpful. Thank you so much!

My daughter, who is in sixth grade, came home from school yesterday and told me they had an assembly about what to do if ICE agents enter the school. She brought home this packet—inside are pages of cards to cut out in different languages (Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, Punjabi, Pashto, Hmong, Korean, and Farsi) telling the kids their constitutional rights: don’t open the door, don’t answer questions, don’t sign anything, and if you are allowed, walk away calmly. They were told to give this card to the agent and if you’re inside of your home, show the card through a window or slide it under the door. The kids were told to go home and take pictures of their papers, just in case. She goes to a middle school / high school.

They have not yet revoked NYC’s sanctuary city status but under new administration, intensified immigration enforcement efforts have started and, there have been increased ICE operations. Trump hasn’t even been in office for two weeks, but his vendetta against New York City is clear.

After a long grueling life long moment , im finally getting my apartment in brownsville ! This was the best news i have gotten in so long and i just want to take my time and say everything is possible, dont give up on the things your passionate about just keep trucking !
