I have a relative in the town of Newburgh with advanced stage cancer. The family needs help taking care of her in their home 2 days a week. (for now) Does anyone have any recommendations for a good home healthcare agency? Or any recommendations of agencies we should avoid?
I realize that October is when these things usually end but I have a friend visiting and thought maybe there’s somewhere that stays open till November?
TIA!
Moved here from NOVA, and one big thing I noticed is how there are a bunch of breweries in the area, but none along the rail trail. Back home, there is a (much shorter) 45-mile W&OD trail not unlike the rail trail here, and it’s got breweries literally right off the trail peppered throughout. Not exaggerating when I say there are like 5 in a 10-mile stretch of trail in my immediate vicinity. With the amount of runners and cyclists using the trail on a daily basis, they all do pretty well for themselves. Lots have restaurants attached or food trucks. One or two have closed over the years, but generally they’re thriving.
The rail trail is a prime spot for breweries and other food businesses to take advantage of the foot (and wheel) traffic. In NOVA, there are a bunch of running/cycling clubs that meet at a brewery, do an out and back for however long they wish, and meet back up at a brewery to rest and “re-hydrate,” or do an occasional point-to-point.
It just seems like a missed opportunity in this beautiful area. Has there ever been one and just didn’t do well for some reason? What’s the deal?
Edit: The two closest trailheads to me are Dutchess and Hopewell Junction.
To reduce the number of "I'm moving to the Hudson Valley, can anyone tell me about X?" posts, we are starting a monthly megathread. All questions asking about moving to the Hudson Valley should be kept within the monthly thread. Posts outside of the thread will be removed.
Here are a few existing threads that I found using this search:

Why do they all have false information on them?
Back in mid-September, I received my first ever speeding citation while driving on the Taconic somewhere about an hour north of Ossining (Westchester). There was no fine attached, but instructions to respond by October 17th. I mailed it in with a 'Not Guilty' plea at the end of September, expecting to get a court appearance date at some point. Stupidly, I did not make a copy of the citation and cannot recall where I mailed it back to.
I have not heard back from anyone since. I've tried calling two courts that sounded familiar (Kent Town Court and Putnam Valley Town Court) but neither have any record of me in their system. Does anyone know how long it generally takes to expect a response from the courts? Is there a way to look up online which court this might be through a license or driver ID search?
Anyone have thoughts on the best place to go trick or treating with a 3-year-old in Poughkeepsie/Arlington area? Around 5pm. Fangs for any suggestions!
I think this is one thing that is missing here. We do not have a natural food store and it’s a well populated area. Thoughts? Edit: I love Adams but it doesn’t have everything I need. Natures Pantry has always been my go-to but since I moved up to POK it’s a bit of a hike. Since the store on Route 9 closed, It would be nice to have a natural food market near here, that’s all. I know Whole Foods may not be the best choice but SOMETHING would be awesome.
Did anyone notice at the top of the house, a series of small tremors? No freight trains in sight either!
Sorry for the crappy quality pic but I was at a red light when I saw it. “Vote Trump - Putin - Two dictators are better than one”. Kudos to that guy.
Anyone have experience as a commuter taking the Port Jervis line to Penn Station? Is it viable? Reliable?
I'm trying to get some ideas for a commute, would have to be in Manhattan by no later than 6:30am.
Leaving from Vails Gate, using the Salisbury Mills station.
Cheers guys!
It's my daughters first Halloween and want to find somewhere to go trick or treating and heard cornwall was knew of the best towns. I'm in central valley but barely anyone even decorated. Does anyone know a good street/neighborhood to go in cornwall?
I’m a native to The Valley, and have lived here my entire life (aside from a couple months extended stay in Nashville). One thing I’ve always been looking for are concerts and music. I don’t have many friends, but feel I’d be able to make some through these outlets. Where are some of the better areas for music in the Hudson Valley? (Particularly, in/around Poughkeepsie/Beacon area).
Wondering if any good spots to watch the election returns. Preferably in Kingston area.
I just moved to the area and it seems like it's really hard to find a place to sauna, steam shower, or soak in a hot tub. (Unfortunately, my gym doesn't have any of these amenities.) Do people have a recommendation for a place to do any of these?
Was planning to go to Harriman but now with the fires am not sure.
It’ll be the kids first Halloween now that they’re a bit older, so they really want to go trick or treating. We live about 35 minutes away in the Catskills so there’s really no classic trick or treating around here since it’s rural.
Someone told me “by the armory”. But it seems uptown/stockade just south of the commercial area might be a good spot. I’m just not sure how many of those homes participate.
One more chance to wear your costume :)
Has anyone ever used 511NyRideshare for one-off trips down to the city or to further away places (Syracuse, Philly, etc)?
I know the train can get me everywhere but it’s like a 20 min drive to the station, and anyways I don’t always have a car available to get there. Plus I’m quite flexible on departure times.
Any other carpool options or services exist out there? Anyone ever try carpooling in this area?
I took this photo over the summer while kayaking on the river.

Seeing if anyone knows of any mobile mechanics or something similar.
I have two cars with dashcam kits I have bought that I would like to get installed. Problem is I would like to not have to drive anywhere to do it.
I’m calling around looking for a nursery or grower to get a 12’ Douglas fir from, though I can’t find any growers still planting them due to fungus problems. Anyone have any idea where I could find this in the Hudson valley? I need it within the next two weeks!
After seeing a few fire posts recently, it seems like a good idea to point out that multiple towns in Ulster County have enacted a burn ban. What's more, if you use a wood stove or fireplace, make sure the chimney has been cleaned recently to minimize the chances of burning creosote starting a blaze, either inside or outside your chimney.
Anyone know the best spot for taking photographs of incoming air traffic while they land?
