For discussion about the Upstate region of New York State.
Anything related to the whole of the state besides New York City and Long Island. Albany, Saratoga Springs, Buffalo, Glens Falls, Troy, Rochester, Binghamton, Plattsburgh, etc.
Essentially anything in NY state except the NYC area (which has its own subreddit). Technically there's western New York, central New York, the North Country, etc., but see this discussion on why this subreddit is for anything non-NYC and long island.

Hi there, I’ve got a wedding to attend at a winery nr Penn Yan in August. My husband and I will be driving from Boston. Is it worth stopping anywhere en route, such as Saratoga Springs? Or getting straight to one of the Finger Lakes, staying there, or even splitting time across multiple towns/lakes? The amount of time we take (ie a full week, couple nights) will be driven by the answers, rather than being a fixed amount. Thanks in advance!
Camping at Indian Lake a couple times this summer. Have reservations for next weekend and for July. While I expect the black flies to be a horror show both times, which one should be less of a blood letting? Thanks, people who know better than I!
Looking for a mid-scale (not too fancy/expensive) restaurant that has quality sourcing and focus on freshness/local meat, etc. For dinner, not lunch or sandwhiches Thanks!
I nearly died when doing Watkins Glen a few summers ago. I want to check this place out, but saw there are 139 stairs. Are they mostly uphill, downhill? Is it worth going here in the first place?
EDIT: thank you so much for all the advice! I really appreciate it! Florida will most likely be crossed off the list. I’ll probably just keep it as my go-to vacation spot to visit family. I honestly forgot about all the book-banning and things within Florida and the terrible job pay. And like I said, my main concern with staying in New York is the weather because of all my health issues. As a young person in my early twenties, I shouldn’t be experiencing this. I’ve been to all the doctors imaginable in my area, and none of the medicine I take seems to work. I know moving to the other side or another place, the grass isn’t always greener, but in terms of the weather affecting my asthma and my joint pain because of my multiple surgeries, I think it might. I’ve done down to Virginia to visit a friend, and I really liked it there, except for all the extreme religious influence. When I went there—my knee pain disappeared.
Hey all,
I’m a 22(F) from the Southern Tier. Born and raised. I have just graduated from a small college in my hometown, with a Bachelor of Arts. And I’ve been thinking about leaving within the next two years after I finish my masters in school library.
My two big reasons for leaving include
The Weather
High Taxes
Now, hear me out. I do love all 4 seasons. (I love the fall and summer.) But I’ve had knee surgery twice, and I get really bad knee pain in the winter (no matter what kind of exercise I do). And I have pretty bad asthma that is not controlled. (I’m trying to control it and have been going to the doctor’s.) But the winter makes my asthma worse, and so does however, super humid and hot air.
This one is pretty much self-explanatory lol.
I’ve been thinking about Florida because I have some family down there, but I also don’t like the governor and how crazy some people are there…
Please tell me some reasons why I should stay.
I know that Wynton Marsalis is coming to Skaneateles in August, and I’m hyped af for that. Any other artists coming through?
Looking into a possible side hustle, but not sure where to start. I make bagels, I really enjoy them, and the people I share them with seem to rave about them, and thinking I might try my hand at selling them at a few farmers markets in Broome county.
I don't expect anyone to do the research for me, but where would I go to find out what kind of licenses or permits I'd need to sell prepared food legally? Has anyone done this before, and is it even worth the hassle?
Very much appreciate any input.
Is it all local produce or?
EDIT: Update after really reading online :
“Dorr says his business has benefitted from working with local farmers. He estimates that 80 percent of his produce comes from Niagara County.”
Packed punk show I organized tonight at SLC Arts in Potsdam, NY. Punk is alive and well in upstate New York!

Hey there reddit gang, we just started publishing a local newsletter for Albany & the Capital District: https://the518.com/. We started it to scratch our own itch—we couldn't find a newsletter that had a good roundup of weekend events, music shows and maybe a digest of interesting local news. Folks here might remember Metroland, the alt weekly that stopped publishing about a decade ago. We're trying for something like that, only as a digital newsletter. Fun fact: Stephen Leon, who wrote and published Metroland, is now a subscriber to The 518. We're 3x weekly for now and would love any tips for cool events or other things happening around town. Thanks all! You can reach me here or email phat@the518.com.

I’m trying to eat healthy and it’s especially hard on road trips. Looking for cafes, restaurants, stores where there are a lot of healthy options, organic or not, with emphasis on protein, vegetarian is fine too, healthy fats, freshly squeezed juices etc

I'm located in Halfmoon/Clifton Park
Decent gear/playing ability. More of a co-composer than main music mastermind but can write a banger from time to time.
We just started this project so if you're looking to put in effort and time to build something truly extraordinary from the ground up this is your chance.
Think of something in the vein of-
HUM Somali Yacht Club NAXATRAS Wo Fat Kyuss
Etc etc etc
Spacey, stoney, psychedelic rock with some heavy blues type Sabbath vibes.
Cheers.
