For discussion about the Upstate region of New York State.
Anything related to the whole of the state besides New York City and Long Island. Albany, Saratoga Springs, Buffalo, Glens Falls, Troy, Rochester, Binghamton, Plattsburgh, etc.
Essentially anything in NY state except the NYC area (which has its own subreddit). Technically there's western New York, central New York, the North Country, etc., but see this discussion on why this subreddit is for anything non-NYC and long island.

Hi all!
My wife and I live near Canandaigua and are looking to get away for a weekend before Thanksgiving. Does anyone have recommendations for affordable cabins in the area or in the Adirondacks? Ideally, we’d love somewhere close to a town with activities. We've been searching but everything seems really expensive!
Thanks in advance!
I made a sub for people in the Capital Region who want to make new friends/date/have someone to go to an event or activity with etc. called r/wannago . If you’re interested, feel free to join!
-Post an event or activity you would like to do with another person. -Include basic info about yourself. -Include when and where the event/activity is going to take place and a timeframe.
If someone wants to join you, they can comment on your post and you can go from there.
Within a week should be more than sufficient.
It looks like an old fashioned price war going on with the various service stations at exit 41 right now. Cheapest non-reservation gas I've seen in the area.
Hello everyone:)
It’s my first time travelling to NY and I am arriving at 6:05 pm next week to Steward Airport by PLAY airlines and the only bus suppose to leave at 6:40 pm. I’ll have checked in luggage and have to go through immigration control. Did anyone have similar experience with this bus specifically going from Steward to NY? Did immigration and luggage process go fast in the airport? Some people wrote last years it is connected to arrivers by PLAY airline but not sure if it is still a case. I know there is another option travelling to Beacon and after going by train but this sounds like a most convenient so I am trying to understand if it’s worth risking money for the ticket. Thank you in advance for your help and have a good day :))
Hello! I'm house-sitting for a friend up in Saratoga Springs for about a week and would love some ideas of weekend trips, plans or parties, just things to do. Thank you!
Under contract for some land in the capital region. What, besides a perc test, do I need to get done before closing?
I’m currently looking to relocate. I’m a chef and any place loaded with restaurants is preferred. I’d like to be by the water but it it’s not a requirement. I really loved Livingston manor but the town is a bit small and too rural. I just finished visiting Rochester city and it’s more of what I’m looking for, but I know it’s a violent area with a big homeless population. Any suggestions?
Hello,
I am a YouTuber who creates PBS Style Travel videos focusing on the Mid-Atlantic and its many regions/neighborhoods/towns. I am currently working on a series on the Finger Lakes - Jose On Tour - New York State Many might already know me from my previous work on the Erie Canal Trail through the cities of Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, Niagara County, and Buffalo.
The way I create my series is usually a 7-part mini series with 1 park, 1 historical video.
I am working on my Last episode and am seeking some feedback. It was going to be Keuka or Canandaigua but from doing major research and script writing, while excluding wineries, restaurants, etc. (PG show), I have not generated enough interest in either locations and their towns or have missed cut off points for some attractions (The Canandaigua Lady) to formulate a 30-minute episode. Unless I am looking at it wrong but I want to capitalize on what's left of the Autumn Solstice before all the colors are gone.
Are there any other lakes/towns that anyone can recommend?
Series So Far and their release dates:
2) Ithaca (Plot: City Meets Nature) - 10/10/2024
Watkins Glen/Geneva (Plot: The Largest Finger Lake) - 11/03/2024
Letchworth State Park (Plot: State Park/Native American Influence)- 11/14/2024
5) ? - Thanksgiving Day < - - - - - Missing episode
A Corning Xmas NY - 12/5/2024
The Erie Canal (History tying to a previous NY Series) - 12/26/2024
Thank you so much for your help
This is purely out of curiosity, I’m not trying to stir the political pot in this sub but just voted and saw Harris/Walz under both the Democratic and Working Families Party section. What’s the difference here? Are the votes counted differently or something? I guess, what is the point of having the same candidate for two different parties? Thanks in advance ✌🏼
Hello! I will be visiting Troy/Albany at the end of November to see some family then headed to Niagara Falls. Both sides of the falls. I’m looking for some eclectic and unique experiences to do while in those areas or headed to Niagara Falls or any of those destinations. For example: drive ins (we don’t have any where I live now, of course they will be closed but an example. Another example and also will be closed is the rail biking tours in the Catskills. Or another example, the ice caves in New Hampshire.) So anything different and unique, the weirder usually the better lol. I’d love to hear your suggestions! Thanks!! 🙏
Greetings. I'm a Lancaster, NY resident seeking new friends in WNY who like to meet up and do things in person, like share hobbies, go out for good and movies, and hang out at each other's places to eat, stream shows, and play games. I'm not actively looking for anything physical. I just need new friends to share the same general space with from time to time. My career is in content creation, brand development, and online marketing. My hobbies include portrait photography, character art (Photoshop and AI), I love to cook and bake, and I love music, especially 80's music. I'm a pre-op transgender woman and advocate for equal rights.
My grandmother is passing away in the coming time, me and her other grandsons are wanting to rent super cars for the funeral, timeframe is spring of 2025. If a reliable service, or group of people, is known in the area for this service any information would be greatly appreciated.
Hi y’all! my Fiance and I are getting eloped in the area on Halloween. What would be your best recommendation for 1) a quiet-ish, not typically overcrowded outdoor forest/lake area to exchange our vows & 2) somewhere to party that night?
