I’m a freshman at marist and haven’t really enjoyed my time here. I think lots of people here are very clique and basic. Very small school and rumors spread quick almost like a massive high school. Is it just me having this experience?
I really want to transfer to Marist next semester but don’t no of all my credits will transfer over thanks
I might transfer and to meet friends but are the frats crazy and the hazing crazy thanks
I am currently a junior but I would like to go to Marist. As of right now i have a 3.9 weighted GPA, 3.6 unweighted. Ive taken 2 Ap classes (got a 4 in ap world history, and im currently taking ap lit and comp) 3 honors courses. Freshman year I was very involved in FFA, I was a greenhand and a officer in training. I also raised a show lamb for 9 months with FFA. Freshman and sophomore year I was also very involved in theater, I acted and worked backstage in many performances. Soon I will also be volunteering at an animal shelter. Currently I am taking a vet-assisant course at a community college sort of thing. Im not sure if it matters but I also own a small business for costume making. I do not live in New york though.
I already have a bachelors (in geology) and wanted to see if I could get a second one in studio art in the LDM/Marist program.
I’d be transferring in with an associates in fine arts from a community college.
I don’t think I qualify for a federal loan for a second bachelors, only for a masters.
So I was hoping I could aim to get a transfer scholarship as transfer student to cover a majority of my costs while abroad.
How likely is it for me to get a transfer scholarship as someone who holds a bachelors already, given if my gpa is a 3.9?
I’m a transferring sophomore that went to my local cc this past spring and fall and i was put into an advanced class that i ended up passing but not very well, my first semester was 2 B+s and a D+, i spent my entire spring semester working to bring my gpa up from a 2.1 to a 2.8, i got 2 As, A-, and a B+. I wrote my essay and have two letters of recommendation. I hope they see that im a good student and one bad grade was my only down fall, i know its a low gpa and they look into stuff like that as a big factor but its my top school for my major!
Hello, I just graduated with an B.S. in Business Administration from University at Buffalo and plan to apply for an Master Program in Marist. I graduated with an gpa of 2.976 and apparently Marist requires an minimal of 3.0 for admission consideration. I done some internship, and some extracurricular. Anyone know what will it takes to strengthen my application or if it’s possible for me to get accepted?
Niece just got accepted and will be attending in the fall. Her bday is coming up, where should I get her some gift cards for? Local restaurants, student center, etc.
Online purchase only, I’m far away.

Hi, I might be transferring to Marist in the fall and was wondering about the social scene there. What activities are available, and is it easy to make friends? Additionally, I'm interested in the groups for people of color. When I visited campus, I noticed the demographics seemed predominantly white, which gives me some concerns as a mixed-race student. I want to make sure the school would be a good fit for me. Any advice or insights would be appreciated.
What the hell happened here. I’ve never been so disappointed, especially at what is supposed to be an important part of our lives. All the foreign students in the MSIS school were walking around in their section and leaving while others were still accepting their degrees. Faculty and students were very upset with this, but there was zero communication before the commencement that even addressed appropriate practices to these individuals for the ceremony. Marist should address this and make sure it does not happen in the future again. I’m still very disappointed by all of this.
Hey!! I’m going into Marist as a freshman this fall and wanted to see if anyone has any tips on the best freshman dorms? I kind of like the idea of suite style living but idk feel free to share ur opinions on/experiences with that. Pros and cons of each hall? I really don’t have any preference because I don’t have much info on the dorms’ differences … so lmk!
Hello,
I am a Marist Alumnus.
If you are looking at Marist for CS, it is IMPERATIVE that you do some combination of CS AND MATH courses.
Basically you want your core curriculum to cover these topics:
Marist College does not offer Parallel Processing course or Distributed Systems courses at the undergrad level, but it is PARAMOUNT that you take one from a respectable institution or online course.
Then take electives that suit your area of interests: ML, AI, Robotics, etc.
The tracks that satisfy this tend to be CS major + Math minor or Data Science.
I recommend avoiding the Software Development track or Game Development track.
If you have no programming experience the professors I recommend are Schwartz, Labouseur, and Gormanly.
As for the Math department I have no idea who to recommend. Whatever you do, do not breeze through courses.
I went into computer science without a mentor — mainly cause I switched from business to computer science in the 2nd week of freshman year.
If you are choosing Marist, then you probably don’t have any guidance in CS as well. If you did, you’d probably be going to a more “competitive” school as there ain’t no way your parents haven’t taught you to code by now.
So yeah, trust me. My advice will serve you well in the future.
Why should you listen to me? I worked at a few Fortune 500 companies and am doing a master’s at a “higher ranked” school (Eww prestige signaling, but no FAANG/MAANGA/BARFF — I know).
Looking back, I wish I had done my education this way.
Also, if you are a freshman, pester your professors about getting involved in the IBM joint study. DO NOT GIVE UP UNTIL YOU ARE IN!!! Alternatively, get involved in the enterprise computing lab. Again, your professors will know what this means AND DO NOT GIVE UP!!!
Also, join honor’s if you can. It’s an extra thesis. It’s not hard to get into if you didn’t get in originally. Even if you “hate” research, bite the bullet and do it.
If all goes well, you are on your way to becoming a CS GOD!
By the time you graduate, you will have learned what interests you and what doesn’t, you’ll be equipped for a Master’s or PhD later, and you will hopefully have a nice 6 figure job lined up!
Good Luck on your CS journey!
P.S. Many of the professors are IBM alumni, which may not mean anything to you, but back in the day, IBM was the Google of our time. They are very smart (even if some of the material is outdated). Get to know them. They are very kind. And what’s the point of going to a small school if you won’t build any relations with a professor?
Edit: I will fix this rambling post later to be clearer and more concise, lmao.

Hello! I just found out today I've been accepted after being placed on the wait list for the class of 2028, I initially applied as a graphic design major, however when receiving my acceptance email, I was not notified that I was specifically accepted to the major I applied to. Was I accepted for my major or will I still have to apply for my specialized classes later? I'm hoping to get a quick response as I need to commit by the 1st.
Incoming freshman. How are the internship opportunities @Marist? Love the campus and the area better than Fordham. Will I regret my decision?
I’m planning on going for biomedical science or PA studies and I’m pretty torn between the 2 schools. My main concern with Marist is that it’s cold.
Would you live in honors housing?
Hi, I’m an incoming freshman at Marist and I’m wondering what the travel options are to get into NYC. I see that there is a nearby Amtrak station, but a 1-way ticket into the city is already $23. Are there any cheaper options? Does it differ between weekday and weekend? I go to a lot of concerts so I’d love access to the city.
Hey everyone! I just created a subreddit for alumni in and around NYC. I wanted to share the subreddit here in case anyone winds up there or is there already. Hope to see you in NYC!
hey everyone! anyone know of any affordable housing options within 15-20 minutes of campus for grad students? thanks!
Trying to decide between Marist and Loyaola Chicago. What do y’all do for fun?
I am wondering if anybody has taken the pre-health program here and gone into nursing after?
Hi everyone!
I'm interested in transferring to Marist College for Biology on a pre-health track. If someone could please let me know how rigorous the classes are, what student life is like, how the professors are, and any pre-health opportunities that would be great! Feel free to reply to this or send me a private message!
Apparently they’re going out this Friday! 👀
I live about 25 mims from the school. Would it be hard make friends and have a social life at this school as a commuter? I don't want to dorm since I live so close but I don't want to miss out on the college experience either.
hey everyone! i’m a sophomore who’s gonna be living in lower west this semester. could anyone who lived there tell me what it’s like? like room layout, which rooms are up/downstairs. which houses face cedar street? just any details you can think of! i’m on the R block. thanks!
so i got accepted to marist as a junior transfer but they just informed me that there is no available housing on campus… so if anyone knows if there is anyway i could get on campus housing or tips for places to live off campus that’d be great
so i’m going to be a junior from nj and i’m between going to marist or rutgers in the Fall. if y’all can help me out with what i’m concerned about for marist such as….
i like to have fun and go out but i also like to chill and be outside in nature
