Firefly is an American space western drama television series created by writer and director Joss Whedon. The series is set in the year 2517, after the arrival of humans in a new star system and follows the adventures of the renegade crew of Serenity, a "Firefly-class" spaceship.

Was watching The Last of Us and came across the song playing in season 1 episode 7 “I Got You Babe” by Etta James comes on and I start thinking, “This sounds familiar but why…” then it hits me, it’s like The Ballad of Serenity! Obviously the sound/style is different but the way the rhythm plays out for the verses just seems to fit. Am I crazy?
I know they can be hit or miss but all the books are under 7 dollars on Audible at the moment with I think 4 of them sitting at 2 dollars or less. Just grabbed all 9 books for 30 bucks, so if on the fence about the this might be the best time to grab them.
The show is pretty awesome … it kind of amazes me how little something’s have progressed — medical especially— I’m on episode 5 and the or is unchanged from now
I found this soda and thought it looked familiar.
Rereading/listening to Becky Chambers, the galaxy and the ground within. There's a seen where the akarak is talking to the quailin (species in the book) about a akarak meeting of ships like a space flotilla. And she says where you can get a compression coil 3 ships over. Just a fun little find.
It’s the year 2001 and Joss Whedon wants to add the last and final character to the crew of Serenity, you. What abilities do you bring to the crew? Who do you confide in? Are you Jaynes combat partner? Or Kaylee’s source of comfort and advice? Maybe you’re the comedic relief? What’s your catch phrase? Who loves/hates to be around you? Who trusts you the most?
This is the best series in the verse and it is such a shame it was never given a chance to be more. Every episode I laugh or cry and then get depressed knowing why there isn’t more.
For the third year in a row there’s a Shiny New Year event at the end of the year in Philadelphia! It’s a Ball and Banquet. Much like the Browncoat Ball, it’s a nerd-prom for Firefly fans. Word on the street is that this year there will be pirates.
We goofed a little last night. We've been wanting to introduce the kids (ages 7yrs and 9 yrs) to Firefly for some time now. And with 3 actors announced to be appearing at Awesome Con, which we'll all be attending, we thought why not now! The kids were soo excited, as they knew the whole family had watched and enjoyed it, and now they were going to be in on it.
It's been several years since we'd watched it. We were surprised at how many moments we'd forgotten about. Especially the scene where we meet Inara and get a full glimpse into her profession. My sister and I both leapt across the couch to shield the kids eyes, paused the show and had a little discussion, and then finished the rest of the episode. But now we are torn. Do we finish the series with them? We watched it with the older brother when he was younger, but maybe he was older than we remember. What other scenes are we forgetting about? I really want them to be excited about meeting the actors, and they can handle and prefer material made for older kids, but I'm thinking Firefly may be a little too much. Thoughts?
I know Mal, Inara, and the Tams are outright mentioned in the show but are the homeworlds of the others known.canonically?
I was kinda getting into this. Does anyone know when/if this will be finished?
At the end of the train job we saw River repeating 2x2 hands of blue and a short cutscene of the alliance captain talking with the 2x2 agents. Those agents produced a picture of River and said "we didn't fly 86 million miles to track down a box of bandaids, colonel. We are looking for a girl, this girl".
How did the Alliance track Simon/river from persephone to paradiso?
Mine is from the pilot, when Jayne is hovering and obviously concerned outside the medbay after Kaylee was shot.
Totally different genre but Fillion is great in it. Plus, there are several guest appearances from the crew of Serenity throughout the series, enjoy!

That means that the Zoë Year One comic won't be available anywhere? : (
But apart from that, I think it's good news.
Here is my free advice to the new studio (please let it be DC with James Gunn!): Continue with episode 15! Give us a proper season 1. Create a new timeline and ignore the (great) movie! Don't kill any characters off for at least ten years or so.
Go smaller! Make it about the characters! Not the action! Hire Japanese artists (or someone who can actually draw)!
River should be at the center! She is the heart and soul of the story!
The human heart in conflict with itself! That's all you need to do!
And to you, Boom Studios, I say good riddance! Are we allowed to use swear words in here! I want to use swear words now!
A significant theme of the series is Mal's loss of faith. If we recall at the outset of the first episode, Mal says they're too pretty for God to let them die. We could read this adjective, 'pretty', in a number of ways. The important takeaway is that he has reason to believe based on his life events that God is watching over him for some reason ensuring his safety despite the dangerous situations he gets himself into.
After the battle scene, we soon find out that he lost his faith. Following on from that, every episode features at least one moment where the odds are stacked against him and by some miracle he pulls through and comes out the other side. My theory is that this was an intentional sign to the viewer that a mysterious force is looking over him, knowing he gets into these situations, and guiding him through, trying to reignite his faith. Because it's all he's ever known, he can't see how unusual and unlikely it is for this to happen over and over again. His feelings about losing the war are still somewhat raw, but given more time he might find a new perspective on it.
It's clear throughout the series that certain kinds of people gravitate towards him, they all know there's something special about him but not a single one of them can articulate why. Although they never explored his loss of faith any further than this during the short run of the series, I suspect it's a theme that they intended to develop if it had continued and the allusions to the existence of a God who's guiding Mal to safety would've become much more apparent.
Edit: Well that coaxed some peculiar replies from this community. If you want to discuss the theory I'm happy to, I've already demonstrated in the replies that I can accept some of the challenges to this theory. I'm not religious and If you want to discuss my personal beliefs I'm not interested.
