Been in dev forever, loved the show but i didnt think it would warrant a game let alone a MMO.
seems they rebuild it around there own universe and are calling it starpunk

Devoted Firefly enthusiasts have endured much hardship over the years. Had we all of foreseen the debacle following the licensed game announcement, the fan-driven endeavour would not have gone so gentle into that goodnight..
Resurrecting this once greatly anticipated labour of love is a long awaited redemption.
It was good stuff. Like better than the soundtrack for the show.
I want to see Firefly Online complete development and be released.

"Firefly Online is a strategic role-playing video game developed by Spark Plug Games and Quantum Mechanix for Microsoft Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android, based on the Firefly franchise...
"...Originally planned for launch in Spring 2015, the developers were required to recreate large amounts of it after the original show's cast was brought on to provide voice acting. John O'Neill, CEO of Spark Plug Games, said that they were having to "change everything" and that they were deliberately not providing development updates to avoid "saying something that’s wrong again." The last post on Firefly Online's Facebook page dated March 2016 said, "We're still here. We're still flyin'. [The] game is still in development. Stay tuned." "
Now for a more personal note:
There have been many of us that were looking forward to Firefly Online. I include myself among those that downloaded the Firefly Cortex App in anticipation of getting access to Firefly Online. Within that number, there were also those of us that Paid for the "Big Damn Hero" status to be included in the Credits of the game. Though I am not one of the following group, there were many that bought the virtual card packs to complete their collections of the cards in the Cortex App, to therefore get the digital rewards that would be available in Firefly Online upon release. We still want it. We are still looking forward to it. I know I would be willing to pay for it possibly on a monthly basis similarly to MMOs like World of Warcraft.
The solution is to convince the powers that be at Fox/Disney to complete the licensing contract to allow the creation of the Firefly Online game by Quantum Mechanix and Sparkplug Games so that those of us that have been waiting on this for the past 4+ years will be able to finally spend some time in the verse in a more immersive manner.
I may not have watched the show when it aired originally, partly because at the time it came out I was working evenings, but once I saw any of the show, I was hooked. I probably watch it at least once a year beginning to end including the movie. I still occasionally play on the Firefly Cortex App, even though it isn't contacting the servers anymore. I was in a group playing the board game once a month until I moved, and as nice as that is, it was only once a month. I'd like to be able to play when I want, where I want, with as many or as few people as I want. I want to keep flying. Will you join me so that we can all keep flying with our friends from the verse?
So I booted up an old laptop of mine to see that I still had the site on my bookmarks bar. After clicking on it, I was greeted at the site with this image.
Any sort of meaning behind this that anyone is aware of?
It started with "The Cortex", which was a mobile game and it was fairly fun to play. Plus, if you purchased the in game items (ships, card packs) you were helping to support the creation of "Firefly Online", and you would have been named a "Big Damn Hero" on a credits page or something similar like a special tag for your in-game avatar. The game was set to be a big open world, amongst all the planets revealed in the series with the ability to do honest jobs, or crime. The plans were elaborate and they were actually getting things done. Including getting the cast together to do some of the voice acting. Look up [Firefly online the cast returns] and you'll get to see and hear the cast doing some of their lines from the game, and a podcast by TheTripleSLeague, that answers whether the game is still in the works.
I started playing the Outer Worlds and it has a very strong Firefly feel to it. I recommend giving it a try.
cause high end they can't battle with other games like star citizen. awful premise from the getgo. mmos are dead.
post a free version of firefly and ill stop laughing so hard.
Long time ago, someone said that all information about Firefly online have gone dark cuz a gag order from Fox... Will the new management refresh things and give us browncoats more bones to chew? Or will it be left and forgotten entirely? Make your bets! hahaha
I fell down a rabbit hole today as I just let my mind wander about the internet. [This is from google maps, taken February 2017] (https://imgur.com/a/CI1P2)
I tracked down some [tax records] (https://services.wakegov.com/ptax/main/billing/statement.aspx?search=bus&yrs=0&prev=summ&pk=23416276&summpg=1&pks=1-23416276-35940299&last=&first=&middle=&bus=Spark%20plug%20games%20LLC&nbpg=1) for Spark Plug Games that show they have some to pay that were billed 11-13-17.
I also found that the property is owned by DRW Investments LLC, and can't find anything showing that they've had anything available since before February.
I also tracked down the CEO of Sparkplug, John O'neill, and found his personal screenname: fuzzygreenbread. But that didn't lead much of anywhere.
Beyond this information, I haven't the time to dig any further for now. I'm not saying that the game is still going... but by all accounts Sparkplug seems to still be in business, despite the fact that there literally hasn't been a peep about anything they've done.
Edit: I should also say, I found a business profile (which I can't confirm its accuracy) that says they currently have 10 employees. Which, for a small indie studio is decent size talent bank... but likely slow as balls in the production department.
Just noticed it for the first time today.
The cortex app is missing from iTunes. This isn't the best sign.
On a somewhat positive note... no gag order is legally indefinite.
Eventually we'll find out what's happened to the game, even if that means it's been dark long enough that people involved can start talking about how Fox pulled the plug.
I remain hopeful. I've worked in some modding groups, and currently am co-creating an indie game... so I know something about the day to day of game making. And honestly, sometimes you spend a ton of time working without really much to seemingly show for it... because not all progress is visible progress.
I know this is under a gag order but all I can buy from trading post is the TV series, is this an iOS issue or gone for everyone now? I wanted the extra ships :/ Also any news?
So did I miss something or can you not purchase packs of cards anymore? All I see under the trading post tab now is a link to purchase the Firefly TV Series?
In our podcast today we touched on the the passing of Ron Glass. Which lead to the question, Why has all news about Firefly Online stopped???
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nC2GyJTyuq0&t=50s
Basically it's a gag order from Fox. My sources are solid. Keep the hope burning.
The servers for the cortex are still running. It seems, to me at least, if development had stopped, why continue spending money on the servers?
Every couple of weeks I check around in hopes of seeing something, anything, new... and I'm always disappointed :(
Even an official confirmation of cancelation would be better than the radio silence.
As the subreddit mod I'm about to hang it up. Whether the game is still in development or not isn't as big of a concern to me as the miserable treatment of customers who paid into this project by the companies involved. No one goes dark like this, There is absolutely no way to contact anyone that was involved in the project. I've been PC gaming for over twenty years and I've never encountered such a complete lack of interest towards current and potential customers. It's become rather clear that Fox, QmX and perhaps even Sparkplug Games no longer care anymore and in the case of Fox and QmX probably never cared at all. Sad to say I am done with Firefly Online. If anyone wants to take over let me know. No Man's Sky drops tomorrow. FFOs time ran out.
Hey guys, relatively new user to the cortex, and I was just wondering... how do you go about getting the other ships? I saw one post that says you can buy them(with real cashy money), but I don't see any links to do so. Also, can we still get the series one cards? I have done a few runs, and I seem to only get series 2 or 3 cards. ...i want that hat.
The last post given by the team says they are still working. Unfortunately that was months ago. As a true browncoat I am given to believing in hopeless causes, but that doesn't mean this will never happen. Until official word is given you should keep believing that at some point a game like the one shown will happen. I'm not giving up.
