A Reminder: DON’T USE YOUR BRIGHTS IN FOG (I’ve had to do a lot of driving over the past week in our foggy weather and have seen SO many clueless people using their brights and reducing visibility for everyone around them)

Tuesday, Feb 4 is Transit Equity Day with free rides on bus, light rail, MARC, subway and Mobility

Celebration to Honor Civil Rights Icon Rosa Parks on Her Birthday

BALTIMORE, MD (January 31, 2025) – In recognition of National Transit Equity Day, Tuesday February 4, the Maryland Department of Transportation Maryland Transit Administration will offer free rides across all services including Local Bus, Light Rail, Metro Subway, MARC Train, Mobility and Commuter Bus. An annual tradition, Transit Equity Day is dedicated to honoring the life and legacy of civil rights icon, Rosa Parks.

Parks changed history on December 1, 1955, when she defied local law and refused to give up her seat to a White passenger on a segregated public transit bus. Her subsequent arrest sparked the Montgomery Bus Boycott and legal challenges to the segregation law which was eventually ruled unconstitutional in November 1956.

The nationwide celebration of Transit Equity Day highlights the vital role public transit plays in the health of the communities it serves. The Maryland Transit Administration encourages riders to use their free ride on February 4 to commute to work or school, doctor's appointments or for recreation to visit events and exhibits at the Reginald F. Lewis Museum and The Blacks in Wax Museum. If you're trying transit for the first time, use the website mta.maryland.gov or Transit app to plan your trip.

The Maryland Transit Administration is one of the largest multi-modal transit systems in the United States, and operates local and commuter buses, Light Rail, Metro Subway, MARC Train service and a comprehensive Mobility paratransit system. The goal of the Maryland Transit Administration is to provide safe, efficient and reliable transit across Maryland with world-class customer service. To learn more, visit mta.maryland.gov, check us out on Facebook or YouTube and follow us on Twitter/X.

Looking for a choral group to join

Hey everyone! I’ve been living in Baltimore the past few years and have always wanted to get back into singing. I’ve sang in a choir throughout both highschool and college but in my adult years have not had the opportunity to get back into it. I’m not affiliated with a church or anything, but is anyone aware of any choral groups in the city? Thanks!

Baltimore traffic lights out during rain

It seems that everytime it rains major intersections traffic lights are out? Does anyone know why and why does it take the city hours to fix them.

Why are traffic lights so failure prone around here?

Walking down by President st. and Fawn st. This afternoon and I see a sight I've become quite familiar with - dysfunctional traffic lights.

Baltimore is the only city I've lived in where I will regularly see intersections with pairs of flashing red and yellow traffic lights like this, despite them usually functioning as expected. I see it most often in the Hampden/Remington area for some reason but that might just be recency bias. What's happening here, and should I call 311 for something like this? Anyone else notice this pattern?

Need recommendations for home renovation contractors.

I have several issues with my 1900’s row house and am in need of a good reliable contractor for my roof and one for the subtraction of an addition on my house. This is my first house and these repairs are out of my area of expertise (plumber for 20 years) and also too major for me to undertake alone. If you have had similar work done I would really appreciate any info on contractors you have used that did an amazing job or ones that you’ve used more than once. Anything helps, thank you for your time and suggestions.

Vet recommendations

My fiancé and I will be bringing home a 3 year old lab in a week. We are looking for a good vet in the area and would love recommendations.

Also appreciate any vets to avoid.

This is my desperate plea to anyone who may have a procedure scheduled for their pet at Spay Now in the next 2 weeks.

My senior cat (the light of my life) has had a rough couple months medically. He got his second eye removed a month ago so is freshly blind, and now he has a tooth infection. He is scheduled for a dental at Spay Now on the 13th but he had to go to his regular vet today because he’s so uncomfortable and the infection is so bad. He’s drooling constantly and can’t even close his mouth, he’s miserable and I feel so terrible for him. He started antibiotics and pain meds today and I was told that should get him through the next 2 weeks but I’m desperate to get him in for his dental sooner.

He also has heart disease so every day that he is stressed and in pain is putting pressure on his heart.

I am hoping someone who has an upcoming appointment with Spay Now for something less urgent (like a routine dental cleaning or spay/neuter) might see this and trade appointment days with me so he can get his dental sooner. He is stable, but he’s so miserable and that’s my baby boy, I hate to see him in pain.

I will be calling Spay Now daily to see if they have any cancellations, but I wanted to make my plea on here too.

I also want to shout out Spay Now for being such an amazing low cost surgical center. If you have pets I highly recommend them, I have two geriatric pets that have both had procedures there and if not for their affordability I’m not sure I would’ve been able to pay for all of it.

Two Baltimores still exist

Ever since I came back, it’s a new racist thing every single fucking day. Following me around in stores, calling security after my card declines, general rudeness and unprofessionalism. It’s so wild, I come back from a super liberal arts school anywhere my friends are communists and they just don’t get what it’s really like out here. I have no solidarity with the rude ass bus drivers or the racist cashiers who loudly announce that they’re watching the aisles when I come in. Fuck them (regardless of the offender’s race) and especially fuck them because I know their behavior whether it be as a customer or as someone offering a service is ten times better when they’re dealing with a white person. I fucking hate this town, it’s gotten to the point where I don’t give a shit about the “we have to come together” because I’ve been met with nothing but nastiness and racism and so has my family. Hopefully I can meet more like minded people when I move to the Hampden area.

Edit: I miss being surrounded by black people who actually had some pride in who they were smh. These mfs are competing for masters favor and that’s why I was so eager to leave in the first place.

Edit 2: I wrote this fresh off something ELSE happening but the real ones who love their communities and fellow man know who they are. This is not for them

Therapist Recommendations

Does anybody know of reliable, quality therapists in the Baltimore/Towson area? I’m looking for LGBT friendly and holistic centered practices. Any recommendations (or places to avoid) would be greatly appreciated!

Physical media

I keep running into this problem where I want to watch specific movies but then none of the streaming services I have seem to have it or they charge extra to rent it. I’m so tired of it. I don’t think I’m even trying to watch anything that obscure either. So my question is which branches of the Enoch Pratt library have the largest DVD collections? Do they still have DVDs at the library? I know about Kanopy already. And I’ve heard of Beyond Video which does sound very cool, but I’m trying to save money here.

County water bill question

This may sound crazy but I have been helping out my grandmother with bills for the last 10 years and today it dawned on me I’ve never seen a water bill. I checked the city website as they administer county water bills but the address does not populate results. Perhaps her HOA fee is covering the water bill? Any advice? Thanks!

Community gardens?

Can't help but notice that there are a lot of food deserts in the city. Food insecurity is a thing everywhere but since I'm living here I wanted to know: are there Community Gardens or anything sponsored by the city or community organizations? New York City did it in the 70s and the helped alleviate the strain on families and let to healthier food choices.

If no one knows of any organizations, I have decided to start doing the research so that I can Lobby the city to use some unused land so the communities can grow their fruits and vegetables.
